Theres a section in the museum, which is on museum road dedicated to Portsmouth Football club. Been a while since I've been, but that wasn't much the last time I went. I remember as a lad being able to go in and look around Fratton Park. Shame it's all locked off except match games now.
Apparently the Arsenal team said that Fratton Park is their favourite stadium to play at, because the Pompey fans are so vocal cheering on their own team. Before they were a professional football team, they were an amateur team. The amateur team's first goalie was Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, who was living in Portsmouth at the time and working as a doctor
When did Arsenal say that? Interesting about Sir Arthur. He was known as AC Smith and his most impressive season came when he published “A Study in Scarlet” in 1886/87.
@@Laudits it was when Portsmouth were in the same league as Arsenal, before they dropped a few divisions. One thing that made me smile was when Portsmouth dropped to league 2, and they were playing smaller teams in the league. The other teams were used to 500 to 1000 spectators at a match, then they played at Pompey to a crowd of 17000 to 18000 spectators. It must have been quite a surprise for them to be playing in front of so many people.
I am glad you got some footage on your trip to Fratton Park. I did some voluntary work there in maintenance so I got to have a good look around. They have some art dedicated to the FA Cup Victory with Harry Redknapp and they do have a display of the Cups and Trophies. That Tesco was just in the planning stage when I went on part of the carpark. They have a new John Jenkins Centre named after a fan who was a War Veteran.
That structure on top of the South Stand is the new state of the art TV gantry which is still under construction so all that building material outside is probably connected to that. The statue outside is Pompey's favourite son, Jimmy Dickinson as is the image on the seats at the Fratton End.
@@Laudits Coincidently, a TH-camr called MJPhotography has just released a video showing all the internal upgrading going on at Fratton Park. It's 5 mins long and Pompey's building head honcho Steve Cripps gives a guided tour. So Slim the security guard no longer has a secret to keep. 😀
I think those works would have been the upgrades to the matchday lounges in the Fratton end, don't know why he was being so secretive about it when the I'm sure Andy Cullen the CEO said before the summer break that they would be doing this over the summer break along with the works to make the new TV gantry
Verry good video, all trophies are under lock and key and are in through reception, and there is a statue of a Portsmouth legend by the club shop witch is always open to public apart from that it’s quite closed off if it’s not a match day
@@leytonh7673 Thank you. Will have to make another visit mid-season and see what I can see then. Is that by the other entrance I saw during the drone flight?
More than any other club in the south of England outside of London. How about two League championships, two FA cup wins and trophies for promotion from the various divisions. How many trophies has your club won? If it's who I think it is the answer will be 'not many'
@@Laudits When you made your way round behind the away end you were only. a few meters away from a public allyway but you turned back too soon. That would of taken you round to the club shop, car park and statue of Jimmy Dickinson. That area is also accessible from Rodney Road which runs Parallel with the North stand Please come back though as I highly recommend a stadium tour and I think it only costs £12 i think😃
Pompey have been my club for 55 years and my dad's before me. Once it bites you, it is impossible to shake off. There's been a lot of work going on in the last 5 years, and the ground looks so much better now. Come and see a game, you won't regret it.

@@Laudits mate it’s a class club and we’re really passionate about it, We have a great history and to be honest looking like future too 🤞. @@Laudits it’s an old pub mate it’s still decked out in the old tile fronts but it’s kind of offices now 👍, if you had carried on walking up the road and turned left at the end and walked for about 3-4 mins you would of seen the matchday local on your right 👍 again great atmosphere on a matchday there too 👍😁
