I think the leather tab and double button style looks quite smart, and I'll certainly be trying it out with my next project. Thanks for sharing, I would never have thought to do this with clothing!
8x6 at your service. Now that's what I call thinking outside the box. An excellent work around. I use lots of tools in the workshop that can take your head off and it does not phase me but using a sewing machine scares the giblets out of me! (ha ha).
Thanks so much for your comment :) if it gives you any confidence I was using table saws and power drills years before I ever touched a sewing machine LOL
I have just found your channel today and already a fan. I’ve been entertained, informed and inspired to do some diy’s myself enough to have watched most of your videos. Keep up the great content for I have no doubt your channel will continue to grow. Best regards and happy holidays.
VERY NICE!!! that double button/leather tab method is brilliant and looks good to boot. Form AND function? Awesome! Definitely more in keeping with the dwarven aesthetic too I think. ⚒️ You're going to make me want to take on a dwarven persona for the MERF & I'll have to redo all my Dúnedain kit 😂 And yeah I can admit I've certainly let button holes intimidate me in the past (I hope no one takes that out of context, they'll say "There goes that guy that's afraid of button holes- point and laugh everyone!") so this definitely helps a ton. (That being said if you ever feel like making a video teaching goons like me to hand sew button holes that'd be neat too)
Greetings, Iodo! I really like this, it's very cool! And the double row of buttons looks classy! =) But, I have even easier way to avoid buttonholes - use a piece of string, fold it in half, sew the ends together to the fabric and use that loop as a buttonhole. Like on duffle coats
Thank you for your comment :) I have tried that too, but the string came off, probably because I did it wrong, the other thing I have tried is like on Aragorn's surcoat in LOTR whete you just have a string on each side to tie together, but that took me too long to do up
Excellent. You could use other things to make a different look. Replace the leather with a piece of cord ( could be coloured) with loops on both ends and braided in the middle or small pieces of chain for a fancier look, maybe for an important dinner.
the hobbit stuff was more of a cheap cosplay costume, although gradually when I have the time I have been turning it into a better kit, I might do a video about it when it is more finished
Very creative. I actually like the leather tabs better than the button holes, they look more period to me. Just curious, how in the world did you get a hold of an Illinois license plate? I lived in Illinois my whole life until I retired and moved to Tennessee. That's pretty cool!
I like the leather tabs better too, better aestehic for fantasy, love the hobbit waistcoat, ive got one on my projects list.my wife makes all her own clothes and sews all her own button holes by hand, (even tho the machine does button hole) she hates metal grommets ( sorry Kramer)
Thanks so much, glad you like :) Ha Ha, I also hate metal grommets, not because they aren't historic, but because they look awesome/work really well for the first year, then they pull out, look a mess and are really hard to repair
@@IodoDwarvenRanger your welcome, i have used the dufflebottomsystem on combined fakefur blanket to use as both a cloak and a sleepingbag, and the metalhooksystem and some, i have to admit, button and buttonhole for a santas coat

Awesome, I'm glad you like it :)
Very cool. I can see that as a cloak closure. Thanx for takin the time out during the Holiday run up.
I have used it as a cloak closure in the past, and it does work nicely ;)

Very clever work around, thanks for sharing and have a Merry Christmas.
Glad you enjoyed watching, Merry Christmas!
This will work excellently for my Kislev coat, thanks for sharing.
You're welcome! and thanks for the sub :)
Pleased to see you before the holidays' Iodo. Nice workaround for buttons. Have a great month.

I didn't know this way, thanks

Nice work. Well done.
Thank you very much!
Button holes were my down fall for years.
I myself cannot see except by hand somewhat but that idea is definitely inspiring, thank you Iodo.
You are very welcome

Thank you, I invented it out of pure laziness because sewing buttonholes takes ages, but I'll add that video to the ideas list ;)

and thank you too :)
I've used this for a cloak closure once or twice and it works great. I'd like to hear/see more of your hobbit impression
