    This panel can put out close to 100 watts th-cam.com/users/postUgkxOqI2yqX0XVrhR2BMJciTWrHJpG8FhJyg when positioned in the appropriate southernly direction, tilted to the optimal angle for your latitude/date, and connected to a higher capacity device than a 500. The built in kickstand angle is a fixed at 50 degrees. Up to 20% more power can be output by selecting the actual date and latitude optimal angle.The 500 will only input 3.5A maximum at 18 volts for 63 watts. Some of the excess power from the panel can be fed into a USB battery bank, charged directly from the panel while also charging a 500. This will allow you to harvest as much as 63 + 15 = 78 watts.If this panel is used to charge a larger device, such as the power station, then its full output potential can be realized.

    Thank you so much. You are clear and direct. I have 2 panels in my 40 panel array that show 2/3 output, so I want to check the diodes. The panels are under warranty, but the problem is that new panels on the market are larger and will not fit in the array, so replacement is not a simple option. Unlike yours, my panel junction boxes are filled with a clear rubber-like dielectric packing. I'll need to deal with that.

    Hi Amy from Australia, Loved your Vizsla "Elsie" and Video, I have a problem that has me stumped, my panel (150w) is similar to the one you show with junction box "While in the sun", my panel has no power from the leads, but in the junction box it measures 10.8v from center to either side outer terminals. I followed your test on the diode setting and it gives 1196 at the leads and test on the diodes shows 487 so it's testing like it should be ok, but no voltage in the sun, love to hear your thoughts... Kind regards Dave

    I liked the presentation. Though I'm going to dig into it further.
    I have 9 solar panels producing 2/3 energy (KWH). They are connected to EnPhase M215 inverters. Using EnLighten Manger I see the following:
    Bad Panels: 17 V DC, 6 A DC.
    Good Panels 26 V DC, 6 A DC.
    The panels are typical 60 cell panels, with three 20 cell strings. I can assume no juice is coming from one of strings. Sound like a diode issue? Or could it be a faulty string? Since the inverter numbers are under load, do I have to take one down and test it.
    Thanks
    -Kurt

    I’ve got an array of JA Solar “smart” solar panels. They have the SolarEdge optimisers built into them. Lately one of the panels is producing only 25-50% of the output of the neighbouring panels after two years of operation.
    So I inspected, cleaned it, and it didn’t fix it. My best guess is that one of the bypass diodes is passing current probably due to an open circuit fault in the cell string. Hopefully it can be replaced under warranty.
    My big fear is that the bypass diodes fail under sustained loads in summer time. The cross sectional area of those diode legs are far smaller than the cross sectional area of the cables connected to terminals 1 and 3, and yet they are supposed to pass the current for the entire solar string (maybe 20+ amps).

    At 02:54 mm:ss, this statement, "OVERLOAD" is incorrect. When a DVOM meter displays 'O.L.', it means the measured value of the circuit currently under test, is 'OUT-OF-LIMITS' for the selected meter display RANGE. PLEASE SHARE THIS.

    I purchased Rich Solar Panels, 190 W. I tested it today using a Watt meter {While connected to a charge controller, and battery bank}. From your video, you informed us that is incorrect! Your video was great, and very informative. I have a Fluke 87, so I can test it the same way you did with Short Circuit Current, and Open Circuit Voltage. The only thing that worries me now, is that while testing under load, and partially shading my panel, (With one hand), the current generated dropped by 50%. I decided to use a broom to shade the panel, and it dropped the voltage from 8.5V to 1.5 Volts. I am wondering, could a diode be bad, or maybe not enough diodes in the Solar Panel circuit? Is that what determines the difference in cost of Retail sales of Solar Panels?

    • @AltEStore
      @AltEStore  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The low starting voltage of 8.5V sounds like a bad diode to me. Then with shading down to 1.5V, it sounds like there is no path for the current to go, again pointing to the diodes.

    I have four 100W panels connected in parallel coming off the roof of my RV into a Schneider C-40 controller. All panels are rated at 17.6V and 5.6A. I read 18v across the wires coming off the roof array, but when I connect to the controller I get a reduction down to 7.5V across the input terminals. Voltage across the controller battery terminals is 13.5V. I get ZERO amps reporting to my battery pack during full sun. Does this sound like a bad diode situation?

    6.1.22 Thanks for making the video. Question: I have 2 used panels where one of the PV wire pulled out. When I open the junction box on the panel the junction boxes are filled with a white rubber-like filling. What is this stuff and where can I get some? What I did to fix was to solder a PV wire to the brass looking tang. Seams to be working. Showing 42 volt and 9amp. So I am guessing the diodes are ok. Thanks again.

    • @AltEStore
      @AltEStore  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      From your description it sounds like some kind of sprayed electrical insulation filling. If the panel wiring seems to be secure and functioning, I wouldn't worry about it.

      I just tried that with a string of 4 220w used panels I have the diodes that were working made the whole string seem good. But they would drop production down to 32 watts in series with light shading. but I would get 180 watts out of a single panel. took the back panel off and 3 out of the 4 solar panels had 4 bad diodes and 2 good diodes making them seem ok. but holy crap they lost production if I only covered a little bit of the panel. now I have to figure out how to replace the diodes.

    Water got into the junction box (like the ones you have open) on the back of a few of my solar panels. There seems to be a bit of rusty water around the screws. The diodes look dry. Can I dry those screws and still have the junction box work?

    • @crpth1
      @crpth1 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Within reason, all electric contacts can be cleaned. You can use some acidic solution. like vinegar, lemon juice or mustard. Thinking about "stuff" you probably have around the house. Off course other commercial grade electronics cleaning products can also be used.
      Mechanical cleaning with sand paper, scraping, etc. Will provide clean and absolutely functional in no time! With this said AFTER cleaning make sure to "seal" the contacts with dielectric grease or similar. Protected contacts will last ages...
      Make sure that any water that gets into the box has a way to get out! ;-)

    Hi, I have an issue with a 340W ( Vmp 32 V, Imp 10A, Voc 40V, Isc 10A.6) mono solar panel I recently bought. The voltage reading without load is fine, but without load I can never get more than 1.8A. As soon as it's connected to my microinverter or my off-grid inverter, the current goes down to 0.1/0.3 A and it never makes more than 11W. No shade, no visible damage, nothing. I already change the MC4 connectors, check voltage continuity in the cables, changes cable, tested the bypass diodes, temporary replaced the bypass diodes, and still nothing. Always the same 5-11W power production.
    What could it be? I run out of ideas.....
    Thanks!!

    Thanks for the new videos and the old ones too! I’m glad you have a wear house in PR but it’s has few items available, try having more stock and do some fb ads there is a lot of people that want to build backup sistema and there are few that bring those items to the island and most are focused in full off grid or grid tied.

    • @AltEStore
      @AltEStore  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you so much for your feedback.
      We've been stocking our most requested items in PR since just after Hurricane Maria. Over the years we've adjusted what we carry there, versus what we can easily and cheaply ship from the mainland. On island, we have hybrid inverters for grid tied battery backup (our most requested system) and off-grid inverters, charge controllers, and batteries. We tried stocking solar panels there, but they were not selling well, as many people are adding battery backup to their existing grid tied solar system and didn't need more panels. So we recently stopped carrying them there, but can still ship them as needed. We are constantly adjusting our stock based on need.
      We also do Facebook ads, but it sounds like not enough, so we will look at increasing those.

    Ohms test is ok with Shottky diodes. Will not give reliable results with regular pn junction diodes as some ohm meters use less than .6V which will not forward bias the tested diode.
