"Total absence of slum districts" lol. But damn seeing those homes look completely new and with neatly trimmed gardens is interesting.

it's actually on the bridge over the sherman cut on mountain park avenue. they recently replaced the old metal guard rail and put historic plaques up

This is obviously a promotional film, so it shows the nice parts of the city, or a least when they still looked nice. also describes everything about the city in glowing terms

The quality of the film was good for the time and makes Hamilton look very attractive

This was true, growingup in the 50's 60's and 70's. It was the malls that destroyed the downtown core.

Most of the buildings are gone. The down town thar was once a hub is a shit hole. Thus video us way before my time, but still looks different. The people are gone too. It's a shame

  • @Cyberpuppy63

The Hamilton Pier got torn up last year, to be replaced with something else. The water definitely does not have a light blue color, as shown in this film excerpt. "Ugly", dark and possibly polluted looking best describes it.

At an estimated 31% "real Unemployment" ( not the 7 or 8% advertised ) Hamilton ranks as the most under-utilized City in all Ontario. The only way to cure it have everyone work at Home, making food, sandwiches and emergency meals for Shelters. The Spectator did an article saying productive farm land has been ruined by Urban blight and suburbs. An estimated 300 high rise Apartments housing 1,000 people each will be needed in the next 10+ years. Just nuts! Every housing project in my survey, in the last 5 years had more than 5 [x10] new town housing projects; each of those homes sold for $380,000 and up. That's 20 Million dollars in real estate, within just a couple of blocks.

I've lived here my whole life and I'm 65 now. I don't ever remember an elaborate "slum free" city. That is 100% b.s. Guess they were using propaganda back in the 40's to sell the city.

Before drug culture, widespread familial breakdown, welfare dependence, suburban malls, and industrial decline. I still like The Hammer. It's retained some good architecture. Maybe they can get the downtown healthy again.

Anyone complaing Hamilton has slums has never set foot in a 3rd world country. This is coming from someone who’s a Filipino immigrant in Hamilton. There are poor income folks in Barton yes, but the poverty isnt comparable to Manila’s
