    -Spray with cure
    -Finish shaping the overhang with a nail file

      And 5 years later I still end up cutting my nails. This video helped me bid more time but not enough to have my broken nail grow all the way out. I get air pockets on the edge of my nail and the sikwrap ends up peeling off. Re applying it too much of a hassle.

    I'm old, in the 70's we used coffee filters with base coat or then crazy glue after that was invented! cheap ones better as they are thinner and if buffed well they don't show much even leaving just a clear coat.

    I just wanted to take a moment to thank you for doing this series. A couple of weeks ago I ended up breaking two nails within 24 hours of one another - one was a full break and the other was a corner break. Because I had seen your video of repairing a full break, I was able to modify your method to make it work for me (I didn't have the gel system or silk wraps, but I had a tea bag, nail glue, and the Orly Rescue powder). If I hadn't seen you save your full break, I probably would've just cut back all my nails and been very sad about it for a month while they grew back out. Next time I get into a Sally's I'm going to look for the non-UV gel system because I love how transparent your patches look. Thanks again!

    OMG. I just randomly found your video and I gotta say, first of all I'm totally jealous of your square nails...like so jealous that I want those nails. lol
    Secondly, thank u so much for this tutorial. I didn't know that you could repair chipped nails. Usually I just cut my nails off when they break but this looks so awesome.
    My nails curl inwards and that was how I found your video and then I saw few more videos and they are so informative. I've never really taken great care of my nails ever. And you just showed me a new love for taking care of nails.
    Love it. Hope to see more tutorials

    i love your videos, i never thought about your hands being dry, it amazes me what people have to comment on.. it seems to me it takes more energy to point out something wrong then to just say great job, or just something nice in general..just want to let you know you inspire me to do my nails ( even though i rarely get around to it), there may be hope for my nail polish obsession.. quick question, i read somewhere you can only keep nail polish for like a year, how true is that?

    • @MSLP
      @MSLP  10 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      NOT true at all! I have some polishes that are close to 20 years old & fine. Depending on the formula they may thicken but just get some polish thinner. The colors I used in the mani I have on right now (tutorials not up, but pics on Instagram if you're interested) I know for a fact are at least 4 years old because I posted another look with a couple of them back in 2010

    I have learned so much in just 3 video views. I don't have a problem growing my nails long but when I have a break it is a complete one and at my fingertip. I have been cutting all the nails down. I didn't even know they could be repaired. I will give repairing the nail a try. At least I can get use to the idea of cutting it later. I appreciate the time and effort you put into your videos. They are very easy to understand and it is easy to see what you are doing.

      I have another tip! I had super dry brittle thin nails,and I heard about a product that sounded like a nail saver! People said it made your nails strong and long, and that it conditioned your cuticles! I didn't believe all the good reviews, but I ordered some and tried it, after a month my nails were stronger and growing out longer than I had ever been able to before! I highly recommend, the product is Bliss Kiss Simply Pure hydrating nail and cuticle oil, do your nails a favor and try it! I'm addicted, one broken nailie to another! Xx

    Collette, from start to finish, when you are all alone without camera, how long does it take to do your nail prep to recieve polish? I'm guessing at least an hour. And then for plain polish, including Seche Vite, how long for that before you can walk out the door? You are truly a master of natural nails. I'm thinking you are a salon pro.

    • @MSLP
      @MSLP  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh, not long at all. I don't have a very long prep routine - after I take a mani off I usually use a sugar scrub & do my cuticles etc - maybe 15 mins on the slow side. Filing when necessary, but that's not all the time maybe 5-15 mins. And then before I polish I just swipe my nails with acetone to make sure they're fully clean. I can do a plain mani (base, 2 coats of color, top with seche) in about 15-20 mins depending on how neat I am & if I need to do any cleanup around the cuticles. And with seche vite I can literally walk out the door 5 mins after finishing

    This is not a comment to bash you! I promise. This is a very helpful and thoughtful video, but I would like for you to hear me out. My nails are a tad bit longer than yours, and I know what it feels like to break, chip, and have to cut a nail, but I think that it'll be safer and much healthier to just cut them. Cutting your nails allow for the nail bed to harden and get stronger allowing for healthier and longer nail growth each time. If you're applying "product" to them, it will elongate growth time, or just stop growth completely until you cut them and let them have a fresh start. Nails are like hair!! Also, be sure to care for your cuticles, as I am sure you have mentioned.It is heart-wrenching when a nail is broken so much shorter than the rest, but if you allow it it's process and "healing" time it won't be long before it's back, and if you need to, cut the rest off with it. I recently got my nails cut half the length that they originally grow to be (due to a broken thumb nail) but my nails are growing back in and rather quickly! It's your decision though, and I think that you did a great job in your tutorial. Keep up the work. :)

      The more I cut my nails, the faster they grow. Except my thumbs. I have never had thumb nails. For some reason, they always crack in the corner of the nail bed before they even reach the end of my finger. So I’ve thought about just putting acrylics on my thumbs.

    I love silk repair wraps! They used to sell them here in Belgium from Essence but the brand stopped selling it. Luckily my best friend is originally from America and goes back once a year to visit family so she brings back silk repair patches from Sally's.
    I would never waste a whole strip on one break though! I cut a piece off.
    I rarely get corner breaks but it was a very useful tutorial cause I would've never thought to use a repair patch on that!

    This is fascinating, clearly explained & super useful! 💜 I only grow out my nails a few times a year because they're crappy & dude, massive respect for all these nail art folks who can function with nails longer than a few centimeters! All I get done is thrashing them against every available surface, lol...maybe now I can keep them grown out for a bit longer. Also, as stated, my nails are awful, & they enjoy tearing & breaking even when short! I really like the idea of building out a fugitive corner with gel & silk. I went through your set of mending videos & am on the way to your recommended one--thanks much for sharing this. I know it was made a while ago but hey, still good info! 💜💅💜

    Thanks! This is helpful. Do the nail beds w/ silk wraps on them become smooth enough for a simple, nude color mani (typically I do 2 coats)?

    hi, i've got a few questions. first, can I use those products not for fixing, but just for hardening the nail, and kind of preventing it from breakage? and second, can I order those products on-line? PS love your videos

    great tutorial! I had no idea this was possible. one suggestion to help us see the transparent gel nail better, perhaps you can have a black piece of paper nearby so the clear tip can stand out and be more visible. Idk if this will really work, just an idea, but it's prob better than the white background. anyway, keep up the great work!

    Love your videos, they are always helpful and inspiring! I use the same gel kit but have to throw the brush away after one use. Would you be able to do a video showing how you store your gel brush and keep it clean for multiple uses? Thanks and God Bless!

    I always wear 3 thin coats of sally hansen maximum growth and also 1 coat on the backs of my nails and they never ever break. It's awesome stuff.

    I love your videos that are of this nature! I'm currently growing out my nails and I cracked my ring finger right before the nail bed. My question is if I just super glue it & use like a strengthening base coat will it grow back out?

    • @MSLP
      @MSLP  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      yes I think so - for small breaks sometimes I'll just do glue, although if I have time I usually do a patch because I'm such a clutz

    I've also used a foil form to build the broken section of the nail with the lightless gel.
    The foil application will help avoid any need for a fill.

    I repaired my pinky nail following your tutorial & products, it worked wonderful. My nails brake a lot and i always end up cutting them all. Thanks. I had one little problem, the brush got stiff and hat to throw it away. What do you sugest to preserve the brush used to spread the gel, so i can use it more than once. Thank you for sharing.

    I just discovered your videos... Very helpful! Do you have a video on changing the patches? I have one nail with a vertical split in it and it will never go together again im going to try this... But what do i do when iys time to change it? Lol help.. Thank you!

    • @MSLP
      @MSLP  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't have a video specifically on patches, but I do have one on the foil method which is what I use for patches & glitter. Basically cotton + 100% acetone, wrap in tinfoil to prevent evaporation

    Good work. Try the cleaning step with alcohol, as acetone breaks the queratine bridges inside the nail making them break more.
