    An enjoyable video, thank you. Well done on that development since the trunk chop.

    Applying the wire loosely is something many Pooh-Poohed when I asked about it, many years ago when I began my Bonsai journey. My thought was, like you, prevent scaring as the young limbs or tree grows. Well, a number are now understanding my thoughts on in those “years” ago. Like how your design is progressing on this tree’s journey into becoming an impressive tree. When I’m asked about bonsai, I tell them it is a journey and that you are but a tending artist/caretaker of the trees journey ahead. Looking forward to followup videos on this tree’s journey.

      Some people are so set in their ways, they cannot think around corners anymore. There is of course a good reason for wiring tight and right. But loose helps setting the primary lines and allows for longer times till unwiring. .

    Perfect vid! The techniques and philosophy are exactly what I needed today!! So easy to lose sight of the forest for the trees lol!

    Cheers Jelle. I'm a big fan of beech. Such beautiful trees and they're always a joy to work on too

    Thank you Jelle, as I sit in my shed tomorrow, in the rain, checking my Beech trees, I will try to channel your philosophy. I like that you teach patience and are realistic as to timescale.

    Very neat tree! Amazing how each tree is so different in development. Always have to think so far in the future!

    I have a couple of beech trees and a forest I have neglected somewhat so far this year. I blame the non stop torrential rain. The trunks nowhere near the size of that one though. 👍
    Great camera work here Jelle.

    This has inspired me to get out and look at my two 'dug up' pre-bonsai beech. I really like these as a species and I find they are very resilient to my 'delicate touch' 🙂 You are right that the real pleasure comes from seeing how far on your trees develop each year. Especially ones that have startyed as bare sticks or trunks. Great video my friend :)

      So, go out in the rain. Forget about your premiere starting in a few minutes. Everybody knows how a fanghorn forest is made, don't they? (If people reading this do not: Head over to Xaviers channel!)

      @@GrowingBonsai I think that will be the last of my premieres for a while. I spend too much time worrying about how many people attend. :)

    You didn't mention it, but it looks like that trunk chop is starting to heal over nicely! I love where you're going with this one.

      It is slowly rolling over, yes! A decade or so and it is gone!

      @@GrowingBonsai Also, I forgot to say the setup in the shed worked pretty well! The tree was front-lit enough compared to the dark background it really popped visually.

    Thank you again Jelle, great video.
    I have a couple of small beech seedlings I grabbed from the middle of the forest floor in the Carpathian mountains - they were heavily shaded and I suspect they've been growing very slowly for the past 10-15 years but were not higher than 20cm and half a pencil's thickness. In the past year growing in full sun they visibly got twice as thick. I'll be coming back to this video in the near future for inspiration. :)

    Thanks For Sharing Mate.

    • @GrowingBonsai
      @GrowingBonsai  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Absolutely! Most of my trees get wired at least once during the growing season. Naturally, if you are in hot dry climates, be a bit more wary.

    Have you ever propagated oaks other than from acorns?

    • @GrowingBonsai
      @GrowingBonsai  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Never tried. But airlayering some oak species works if I can believe posts on fora.

    • @ronahles2577
      @ronahles2577 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks. I like oaks because they are very stately naturally without having to “bonsai”. I live in Texas where we have many varieties and I’m starting to work on them. Have tried to airlayer but very difficult and also unsuccessful with cuttings. If you hear of any documented successes please notify me. I enjoy your channel very much. 👍👍👍
