That looks a good bit of kit, my stop start is on my keys on my transit, you both have a brilliant weekend mate
Thank you, Ian. It's certainly far superior to my old charger from the 1970s. Hope you have a great weekend, too. All the best.
Always clear and detail explanation that any non tech guys can understand!
You are a great teacher!
Thank you for your time
Thank you, Kevin. That's appreciated.
Just connected mine after watching the video, saves reading the instructions. Thanks
You're welcome.
Excellent review and info about this battery charger. Looks a great bit of kit.
Thanks RDT.
Thank you very much for the video. It wasn’t immediately clear to me from the instructions that you had to press the start button multiple times to get to the type of vehicle setting you needed. But what ch ing your video was my viola moment! Thank you very much.
You're welcome, Funmi.

Cheers for this just bought the 804 and needed to verify it was working correctly, This helped, thanks,
No worries, Sam.
Interesting and clear video as always and a good review. Generally a lower slower recharge is better so the RSC 804 at 4 amps would be better suited to most owners' cars, other than the impatient or very time-poor owners. That's why I bought the 804 after seeing the 808 in an earlier video of yours. I'm pleased with my RSC charger & maintainer, thank you. 👍
Thank you, Nta16. I'm glad you're pleased with your charger, too.
Great video. Really good heads up on this battery charger.
Thanks. It's a good charger. I'm pleased with it.
You have a very understanding partner, being able to place a battery inside the house on a light coloured carpet, I would suffer for weeks if I did that! Also, top tip, if you do install a 'fly lead' on your car battery, when you sell the car, remember to remove it. I forgot, and didn't realise till much later when I went to charge my 'new' car!
Mrs CarSpyTV didn't notice the battery on the carpet. I hid it under a plant pot! However, if she ever finds out I'll lose more than my fly leads!
Much better than they used to sell & a lot smaller.
Yep, it's very different to my old charger.
I was with you till I saw the hat😳 second thought, subbed, great video, I have had a few cheap Lidl chargers that have both failed after a few years, hope this one lasts a bit longer.
Welcome to the channel. More videos and hats to follow.
Cheers for the video buddy, extremely helpful. Thank you
You're welcome, Paul. Glad it helped.

Another interesting video. Though you missed a trick with the hook of the back. If you buy a pair of them, Mrs carspytv could use them as earRINGS :P. I wish my garage hAd electric, I’ve been desperate to make a video on my ctek charger for a few years now.
Do I really have to buy a second charger? Surely one earing's enough!
@@CarSpyTV haha, she will get a wonky neck, if you get one lol
great vlog after ur review went to ring website got 10% off 4 £26 sheets lovely due nxt few day thank uuuu fella
No worries, Dixie. Enjoy your new charger and best wishes from CarSpyTV.
Best review perfectly clear thank you helped alot deciding to buy or not
You're welcome. Glad the video helped. I've used my charger a lot more since filming. Still pleased! Best wishes from CarSpyTV.
So were do you connect the negative lead to? The battery or where
The instructions recommend an earth point if the battery's in the car. However, many people connect to the negative terminal of the battery.
Hello and thank you for your video, its is very helpfull, if its possible can you explain the other choices for the car charger and what is the best way of using them in different cars or vans, i am asking cause i have a luton van and i am not sure if i select 12V Car or 12V Truck mode, my battery was flat so is it better to use the 12V car mode that is giving out 8A in order to fully charge the battery, what do you think?
Hello. Does the van have one 12v battery, or two?
@@CarSpyTV x1 only one, but im thinking in the fute to put a second one on for those cold days
Understood. If it was my vehicle, I'd therefore charge via 12V truck mode (winter) at this time of year in the UK.
However, I suspect any of the 12V modes would work fine if you have a decent battery.
Thank you, il do that then.@@CarSpyTV
My charger does not show the battery symbol to show it's charging like in this video, I have a Lion 12V car battery attached correctly, when I choose the mode it shows its only got 1.6V, the voltage doesn't go up.. What do you think is wrong?
Probably, that the battery's voltage is too low to take a charge via a smart charger.
A non smart charger might be more successful (might).
Good luck.
Excellent review, I bought one only today , still not sure what err2 means though and as i understand it, the 8amp charge is the 12v truck setting.
My problem is that I'm not using the car much , about 25 miles a week so the battery never gets a full charge, now winters with us , the lights and other stuff are used, add to this the demands of the electronic gizmos on a modern car even when parked, I'm hoping this will help the poor old battery
Thank you, Jack. Hope the charger serves you well and good luck with your TH-cam channel.
So you can’t charge your car battery without it being plugged in to a plug in the house or extension lead?
Yes, this charger has to be plugged into the mains to work. It's not a jump pack. Best wishes from CarSpyTV.
thanks for the video as looking for a shore power charger for a boat so was wondering if it any good for a boats deep cycle battery, apart from the hanging hook is there anyway to mount this permanently to a boat or would it get hot. Was also wondering what the difference the car v small truck settings make. Cheers again as a very useful video.
Hello. Glad the video helped. All the information provided by the manufacturer is available via the link below. Best wishes from CarSpyTV.

Excellent review and instructive vid ,well done ,,,,love the hat 👍👍👍
Thank you, David. Glad you like the video (and hat). Best wishes from CarSpyTV.
Btw just ordered the charger from Argos, collecting tomorrow, thanks again 👍
Good stuff. I've been using my charger today. The Corsa D wouldn't start!
How can you tell whether you have a truck battery or a car battery? what amp hrs does the truck battery start at?

@@CarSpyTV Thanks, I have a 2.0 diesel jeep 90ah battery, and a 4.0 diesel tractor 110 ah battery,
I charged the jeeps battery on the car setting and I charged the tractors battery on the truck setting,
I think it's safe enough on that setting, hopefully!!
Thanks for the fast response.
Just wondered it says for stop start batteries, usually more powerful ,Does that not mean it is not suitable for normal car batteries with a lower ampage.?
Hello. It's fine for normal batteries. Best wishes from CarSpyTV.
Does the charger stop when charged yhanks
Hello. It automatically switches to 'maintenance mode', according to the manufacturer's website.
Great review, thanks
Thanks Paul.
Hi, I would like to know if my battery is not full, can I stop charging and continue charging when I come back?
Yes, that's fine.
@@CarSpyTVWhy is the number on my charger display flashing? Is there a problem? It flashes very quickly from 12V to 13.6. Is this normal? I am worried about my battery.
The second row of battery signs on the charger, I didn't quite get what you called them, sounded like " prop battery" !
can i charge a battery with low rate curent like 0,5A? MY BATTERY IS 2,3Ah.
The following website lists the full specification:
www.ringautomotive.com/
good vid, but you didn't show what it shows on the LCD when it goes into maintenance mode !.
Hello. Glad you enjoyed the video. You might find the manual interesting. It's available online. The link is: www.ringautomotive.com/files/mydocs/RSC804_RSC806_RSC808_Instructions.pdf
I got one of these, it works ace for a few days keeping the battery topped up on my car I rarely use, the battery is fine and after some time err-2 appears, if I disconnect and reconnect it starts charging again and works for a few days, absolutely infuriating. Have similar on my motorbikes (Not Ring!), never had an issue. My battery is not faulty!
That's unfortunate. I understand that your car's battery is okay. However, it would be interesting to know whether you get the same error on a different battery.
I’m getting err2?
Hi it's saying ER2 ?
I be bought one from Sainsbury's when car was broken down yesterday, but I have to return the item
That's a shame. Best wishes from CarSpyTV.
It shows some errors in display, I need to jump start my car in the street, away from home, it doesn't work like that, you never mentioned as well, it needs ac power to charge the dead battery, so feasible only at your home, isn't it?
Yes. It's a charger not a jump pack. Different things. Rather than a faulty charger, the error message might have been caused by a dead battery. Dead, not just flat. If you're in a similar situation in the future, I suggest you test the charger on a different battery to be sure.
If I charge the power bank at home then how many hours I should chargé please ?
Hello. Depends on the size of the car's battery, how flat it is, etc. However, this unit shows 'FUL' on its screen when the battery is full. Good luck.
@CarSpyTV thank you for your replay. It's charging but didn't understand its working or not.
Hi I’m charging my motorbike and when I select the setting, the battery symbol slashes for a couple seconds and then goes off. Anyone know why this is happening?
Might be worth testing the charger via a different battery.
Ah ok will try that thankyou
Just bought one and it starts for a while then ER2 comes up. Car is still dead. What on earth does ER2 actually mean?!
What's the voltage on the battery before you try to charge it?
I’ve got an error message on mine and just opened it out the box and plugged it in(!)
If this happened to me, I'd try the charger on a different battery.
I believe you shouldn't exceed 10% of the battery AH. That battery is rated at 45AH so the 8 amp charger is too big. Should be using 4 amp charger.
Hello. This charger operates at 4A, too. It's not always at 8A. Best wishes from CarSpyTV.
By that logic I should be charging the 90ah battery in my 2,0 diesel jeep on the truck setting? 10% being 9 amps?
MANUAL DOES NOT EXPLAIN HOW TO CHARGE 24V SYSTEM. IT SAYS ONE BATTERY AT A TIME. MAKES NO SENSE.
Wait for a little while and they will die . I have gone through two and i am a vehicle electrician , now retired .
That's interesting. I've had several Ring products and most lasted for many years. Hopefully the charger will, too. Best wishes from CarSpyTV.
@@CarSpyTV Thats what I thought and my experiences as well . However , the clue is on the back....country of manufacture .
@@HowardForster-j4r most things we buy are made in China now, they build to whatever spec is required. A lot of the top brands in the world are made /part made in China now
I purchased the 6 Amp version. For what I understand is a British manufacturer the instructions are a joke. Simple English ? They could have done a better job with half the paper.
No information as to how to get to each charging option. No information as to what part of the charging cycle the charger is at. Contrary to what this video says the two ERR messages are meaningless and pictures when you study them in the information leaflet don't make sense. They have put a screen on the charger and must have a microprocessor inside it so why not use it to display useful information ?
At £28 it was cheap but I am already starting to wonder. When a manufacturer makes such a poor attempt at basic instructions you have to wonder about the charger, its quality, how good its internal design is and how good it will be will be for your battery.
If this thing lasts as long as some of the previous chargers I will be impressed and certainly surprised.
Have I wasted £28 - time will tell.
Fingers crossed you'll be happy long term. My 8A is now 2.5 years old. No issues.
@@CarSpyTV I'm holding my breathe right now and you wouldn't believe what I am crossing as well. 😁 To be honest you have to agree 2 1/2 years is nothing to shout about. Ten years plus is not a big deal let alone 2 1/2.
The instruction look like they have been done by someone on a YTS - or whatever the equivalent is these days. My 15 year old Halfords lead acid charger still works - I only replaced it because it wasn't suited to the Calcium battery I now have on my car.
15 years for your Halfords charger, ey? I reckon I got yah beat! I bought the Ring charger to replace one from the 1970s. That was built by Crypton.
@@CarSpyTV I am not bragging on the 15 years. I don't think that is a long time. My father got a second hand one off a scrap yard in the 1960's and the last time I saw it it was still working. They don't make 'em like they used to.
Agreed. There's very little chance our new chargers will last 60+ years. Best wishes from CarSpyTV.
This charger is rubbish if the battery is completely flat it will not recognise the battery and will not charge it you will after trick it my attaching another battery via jump leads , 🤦🏼🤷
I hear you. This can happen with smart chargers. It sounds like you found a solution, though. Best wishes from CarSpyTV.
@@CarSpyTV I am charging but at the same time I have crocodile clamps to a LED light. Is this doable?? We have a lot of hours without power thus the light.
Wish I had seen this before wasting 40 quid I've got the same problum has to be above 11 v to charge after 4 min , what's the point of that
How do I do that? My battery is completely flat and I’m getting ER2 1.9v on the display.
This is because this charger is a maintenance charger, hence its size. You found a workaround so that’s that then, it’s not rubbish.
