Two very important pieces of info about this song:
The main pad + quiet piano in the entire first half of the song is a sample from another C418 song, Imposter Syndrome! The sample is of the sustain of this chord at 0:41: th-cam.com/video/pQkV_xUgxhQ/w-d-xo.html
It’s put through some sort of looping thing and then played with an A-E-G-D progression, with the original pitch being G. After two rounds of that, it switches to A-E-G-lower B until the ending, where it just holds the B until the switch-up.
Secondly, this song was made by C418 in dedication to a friend (known as Taswell) who passed away. And it shows. That ending is such an compositional masterpiece. An emotional goodbye reflecting on the good times had.
And I can attest to this. I had a moment where I thought I was going to say goodbye to a friend and never see them again, and this song came on. The end of this song… I’ll just say it was a spiritual experience.
The ending of this song is a fucking masterpiece and is one of the most emotionally powerful pieces of music I’ve ever heard. I already had identified this song as one of my favorites on volume beta (which IS better than volume alpha by the way!!), but that experience really transcended everything. Just… everything.

      the blessed runes
bro, gave so much more information than I think I could even find on this song, knowing the fact and intention for who this song was made in legacy of, fuck man, a total different mood switch to this.
friends come and go, that's one thing that I've learned. What matters is to value the time you have and especially had with them. Hope you're alright.
      thanks for the comment.

@@m0zlik On Genius, the song is described as this:
“Appearing in the Creative mode of Minecraft, “Taswell” is a contemplative “farewell to a friend” with mellow chords, flitting melodies, and an upbeat, punchy rhythm. The song was made for Ryan “Taswell” Davis, who died on July 3, 2013.”
As for me… I’m alright. The story actually has a happy ending. I got to see that friend an hour or two later, and have seen them on several occasions since. This only happened a few months ago, but it has left a lasting impact on how I listen to this song. It definitely hits different.
By the way, in the outro of the song, I’ve always thought that the stuttering sound (at 7:47 in the song) represents death, the moving on. And how their memories (the melody quietly playing even after) live on even after it happens.

Taswell is my favorite song ever created, and that only happened because one day I was browsing spotify and got it recommended to me in a daily mix. I initially thought it was some random ambient song that was album exclusive, but I gave it a chance.
AS soon as that second half kicked in, the memories came flooding back. Playing in creative mode on my dad's crappy old laptop with my brother beside me and we built whatever we wanted. Creative mode Minecraft was truly something that has defined my life. It got me in touch with my artistic side and I am proud to say I am now moving on in my life to being a game designer. I even used this song as the background music to my slideshow of pictures at my high school graduation, and it has now become possibly the most beautiful song I've ever heard.
If C418 is out there in this comment section, reading this, thank you. Even in a time where the future of Minecraft is looking more and more bleak by the day, we always have the memories created by your music to go back to.

I am one of the few people who know Taswell. I spent a lot of time playing creative when I was younger so I heard these tracks a lot. After I started playing survival, I was confused as to why some of the songs I loved weren’t present. I didn’t realize that creative and survival have slightly different tracks. One day, I played creative and heard this song first and went on an 8 minute emotional trip. I immediately started searching for it and after finding it, I genuinely cried. I actually made a resource pack to add the creative tracks to survival and mostly for this one song. It is genuinely something special.

I'm honestly unable to connect with the title of this video, i've known almost all of the Minecraft songs in the soundtrack as I liked to play a balance of creative and survival. I also personally don't think the first part ever felt 'eerie' but moreso 'ethereal'. it was calming, but it also felt otherworldly, which is something people can indeed find a bit spooky.
also, incredible work on the editing, this was without a doubt a professional and pleasant viewing experience, hopefully your work will payout sooner rather than later!

    • @m0zlik
      @m0zlik  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

Thanks for the insightful comment and the kind words! I can agree, the title can be quite "misleading" in one way. The reason why I chose it, is because compared to other songs, even from the minecraft volume beta album, Taswell is one of the least played in the album. Plus, I, MYSELF have actually only quite recently found out about this song, even though I used to constantly hum to it when playing creative since 2013. So the chances of it being quite unknown to the huge community that is minecraft, is incredibly high.
About the first half of the song, you described it better than I did! I guess this is one of those particular songs, which can give off multiple, different emotions to everyone. I personally think that the first half of the song is incredibly well balanced between being eerie and ethereal. At some parts, when the weird electronic noises start kicking in at around the 2:20 minute mark of the song, you can sort of feel the balance slowly losing itself, but then it quickly evens out, when the melody kicks in. That's what makes me love the track so much, the mastery behind both of the halves of the song.
I still prefer the 2nd half though, since in only this part I seemed to notice that the song was actually playing. And that has kind of stuck to me since my early days of playing Minecraft :)

Survival soundtracks are more calm, short, and nostalgia focused. Creative soundtracks are more longer, tend to always split into moody and then lightening parts, and envoke a sense of creativity and chills down your spine, almost giving the sense that anything is possible. C418 made taswell in memory of Ryan "Taswell" Davis who was a friend of Daniel Rosenfield (C418). The song was made because he passed away and the beginning and correct me if I'm wrong, was to remember Ryan. Then the other half of the song, is just to solely to remember the good times and memories of Ryan.

The reason I, and I'm sure at least a lot of others, have heard Taswell, is because it was one of the main menu theme for the console editions of MC back in the day. I remember when I was 4 years old, me and my dad would mess around on the PS3 edition of minecraft in creative and build cool things. Always, before the game started, this song would play. Soon, we got a Xbox One S, and the song still plays on the menu in the Xbox One edition. A few years ago, an option was added to consoles where you could play the newest versions of Minecraft. Even though this feature was added, to this day, sometimes when I play on my Xbox, I still choose to play on the old Xbox One edition. Even just the music alone, with songs like Taswell, will convince me to hop on the old version and look at my old worlds, or even start a new one, survival or creative. I know I am writing paragraphs for one reason that you forgot to include, but I wasn't going to let it go. Respect to all the console players out there, especially the ones like me, who still almost a decade after release, still choose to play the old versions, whether due to the music, or the memories, or the memories of the music. In fact, right now, I am going to go listen to the entire volume beta, because it holds my most favorites songs to ever come out of Minecraft. Whenever I play Minecraft on PC, I turn the music off, because it mostly plays the alpha in survival. When I play on the Xbox One edition, the music is full blast. I could go for paragraphs longer, but I must go listen to the beta soundtrack. Good video, thanks for reminding me of my early early childhood and reminding me of the song name.

Everyone thinks in the comment section that Taswell is the greatest song in Minecraft.
But have you forgotten about Aria Math?
    or even......
    Alpha....

I've been training myself for this. Listening to the entire soundtrack, old and new music
Just so someone could ask the question "what's the name of this song?" Or "do you know it?"
Idk why I do it. Maybe I just really enjoy the songs of this game? Or I love playing the game in general
    Maybe both. Probably both
This video did spark joy in me though

OH MY GOD YES I THOUGHT IT'S JUST ME
Well I mean, I'm proud of myself knowing this song's title, and actually having it as my favorite song. It's my favorite because it's the most nostalgic one for me, and this video proves that it's like that for a reason. Back in the days I would play only creative mode, so I didn't know this song is linked specifically to it. I saw some rankings of the most nostalgic songs and Taswell just wasn't there at all, so I thought only I find it nostalgic. But then I find this video explaining how it is, and I'm so happy to see people get informed about it. Anyways.. Taswell is so underrated.

10 years ago this played in survevl when I place like 200 blocks with out stopping building my big houes.
But that was back then now that I come back I waited for ever to hear it again in survevl mod but it didn't come and surly I miss it.
Survevl gets quit boring after buying larger structure like a creeper farm or any farm in the sky so I kanda wish this track world play wail placing tones of blocks.
I hope you understand my bad English.
