A very nice and interesting video, as always. One thing I'd like to suggest: I think it would be very nice to have a "before and after" picture of the tree at the end of the video, to recapitulate what has been done and how it changed the tree.

@@lordfluffybuns3962 starting a bonsai is a great idea. however, starting one in the summer may not be the best. it all depends on the species of tree and the way you intend to start one with (growing from seeds or cutting, using nursery stock ect. ). i started training a spruce just after xmas this year and it seems to be doing well. this is a very good channel to help you get started, and there are many other good ones too. but the best advice i have ever been given is this. don't forget to water.

To clarify, Starting from seed mostly best in spring, Starting from cutting mostly has to be done in Summer Starting from nursery stock can be done in Summer, but major work (pruning, repotting etc.)is best done in early spring. I’m going to be that guy you mentioned. Removing that left branch would have created asymmetry in the design which would have created a lot more interest in the tree. The balance could have been compensated for by bringing the upper foliage down a bit and replanting the tree to the left of the pot. This would have made the tree less symmetrical and therefore more interesting as well as removing the handle bar effect.

1:11 you do a pretty good job at that. next week at work i have a dying white dwarf pine and 2 dying junipers to dig up and replace. i had already planned on trying to save them just because. after binging on your videos this weekend i now want to try to transform them into bonsais if i am able to keep them alive. if I can't I still want to get into the art and your channel is effectively a guide on how to get started and how to maintain. so thanks for sharing

It doesn't make a lot of sense to me as the notion of one side being the "front" is dependent on where the observer is located when he's looking at the tree. But that can change, in fact, it will always change as one in moving around etc...

Sorry for question not on topic. When you first make a bonsai, and make roots smaller and remove soil, do you have to remove all the soil and just leave roots before you put in bonsai pot. I mean, from when you first buy the tree from a store and prepare it to be a bonsai. Thanks.
I like juniper, but every time i work on them a few weeks later they end up dead, i don't root prun well i trim and even when i do thet still end up dead, any idea on why?

Junipers have lovely red coloured bark and by removing the old flaky bark off - you will see the new fesh red bark underneath.
