Love following your adventures! Would really like to see the house you are renting. So many show apartments, but we will be wanting a house and would love to see an example of what you can get. We are a few months behind you coming from Florida ... would like to meet up in late September if you are up for drinks and a chat!
Ok...in a few days. Wife has been sick so when shes better. We chose a very small house. 1 bedroom. But its location is awesome. Were VERY close to city center , For 416 u.s.d. its great ! you can save much more money the farther out from city center you go. Also Tirana is very expensive conpared to other cities. Ive spoken to a few locals that work here but live in a city called Durris. Its about 35 mins, west of here. And much cheaper. Also the beach cities can raise short term rentals in the summer because of all the tourist coming in. We would love to meet you guys!
Meat in Albania..... Much of the chicken in Albania comes from Brazil and it's not good. Find a butcher with Chicken from Italy(Conad) or Greece. It will be more expensive but you can enjoy it. For Beef, Pork, Lamb etc you want to find a butcher that brings the meat and Dairy from down south. The taste is so much better. Also you want to use a local butcher that does a lot of business daily because a good butcher also supplies all the local restaurants. As for Fish it can be a bit pricey unless you find a local fish seller that only sells on Thursday-Sunday. They bring from the wholesale fish suppliers in Durres and Vlore. So keep your eyes open as some fish sellers that do this weekend out selling.
Thank you so much Chris for the info. Great to hear from you. It really helps out . I will look for a butcher. My thanks ! I hope you are well. I love the shopping videos you do in Turkey. Aswell as your time here in Albania. Again , thank you.
@@patrickoverseas Give it 6 months after that you will find your set routine for your daily life here. Do all the touristy stuff now. Get it out of your system then settle in and just enjoy Tirana.
@@patrickoverseassafest meat to eat, not only in Albania, is goat/kid meat (mish keci). Apparently goats can't handle what industry does to othe animals and they just die. So they don't mess with them. But in Albania lamb is good too. Chickens you can tell if they were raised in Albania by their size. They are smaller when organically raised.
The Stephen Center on the corner you walked by, at he start of the coffe shops, is an american styled restaurant run by an American Christian Couple, good food if your missing American burgers etc.
It would seem darn near everything is organic. Farm to your plate. No hormones, no preservatives. From sea to your plate. Can you find frozen goods , Yes but a small amount. The Mediterranean diet here is in full swing. If you live or visit a beach town...prepare for sea food galore.
Nearly all markets are farm to table. The eggs and milk are shelf stable because they don't process the life out of it and the forever chemicals used in the US are banned here. For example: I read the ingredients in a package of cookies and understood every ingredient 😅.
@@patrickoverseas That is a result of not pumping the chickens full of hormones. They also do not wash them and remove the protective layer. The US washes them to a point of removing the protection which allows them to be stored without refrigeration.
Ooooooh I want the fresh sea food 😋
your coming to the right place
