I had promised to get this video out for the release of the Pet Companion at World of Commodore last weekend so I could not wait to get the RGB2HDMI (6-bit TTL) version. It came in yesterday and I can report that I do, indeed, have a readable screen out! I will put out an update showing it working as soon as I can (I am deep in DDM mode this next week or two!) I want to get a better image (I think that is the settings on the RGB2HDMI) and solve the composite out issue first.
Thanks Mike for taking the time to do all the work of assembling, reviewing, providing feedback, and making a video on this!! Btw, the capacitor is 2200pF. The manual had the correct size but silkscreen on board is not correct
Another nice and interesting video from you. Did you check on the diodes, some of them will deteriorate over time! I saw that there were different kinds of diodes on the board. But given the fact, that it is an old PCB, it could also be a capacitor. It looks like there are some nice hours on that project ;-) Keep it Mike, as always nice job.
Thank you! I have not worked at all on the IO portion of the board at all (Except to remove the disintegrating axial metal film caps). I did get the RGB2HDMI 6-bit TTL I had ordered and, with the ROMulator installed, I do get a good HDMI out so apparently there is life in the User Port! Since it wont work with the ROM I burned (Only with the ROMulator providing the ROM) and the Composite output is not working properly with the ROM I burned for that (15 KHz) I am going to go back to the drawing board. All my other ROMs are working fine so I am thinking I have the wrong edit ROM images for my board (40 Col, CRTC, Business keyboard)
@@geekwithsocialskills I did catch it last night. I was confused that it said HDMI and then didn't show HDMI but makes sense to me now in conjunction with Mike's video. Good teamwork! :)
I also said HDMI in my composite mod to a Radio Shack pong system but demonstrated it with the RetroTink 2X-Pro. That is another possible route: more flexible but more expensive than RGBtoHDMI. Rudy and I talked about composite compatibility with RetroTink some months ago, on a Magnavox Odyssey project of mine (which I got working by adjusting signal level using different resistance). Short summary: it's much easier to get the C= 1702 to accept a composite[-like] signal than the RetroTink. Rudy said the 1702 has an internal amplifier, and we concluded it is also more liberal with the composite signal it will accept (e.g., out of spec)... it would be interesting to know if your monitor is also liberal w.r.t. composite levels, like the 1702!
I had an OSSC for use with my Amiga 500 but it died within a month. I was getting ready to play some Ultima IV and it was running on the title screen when I looked up and noticed the screen was black. After that I never could get it to work. This was during Covid and the only place I could get one was eBay so no warranty... Yay.
