Tim Harmston i agree this and Bernard Purdie really were interesting and both talk a lot about your own shuffle telling your own story, I like that seems like the people I play with like that too. Keeps me from trying to play like someone I'm not.
Thanks to Scott Abels for bringing me here. I've been playing drums as an amateur for 25 years and I feel the need to reconsider not only my playing but also my general approach on music. This is exactly the direction I wanted to take. Thanks again Scott and thanks Dave.
+James Sudimak For real though. I can't remember the last time a comedian had me laughing before they even said anything but that's what King does to me. Reminds me of when Chappelle talked about the natural creative link between great musicians and comedians because of timing. No surprise with that in mind that one of the greatest working jazz drummers is a one funny muhfugga.
I just threw my "smart" phone in Lake Superior. How the fuck am I supposed to call my mom now? Also I don't have a drum...did I do it right? I can start a fire at least. And I know where Starbucks is but I'm staying away from there. On a side note, I made an amazing painting of a pterodactyl swooping up on Carhenge.
I was with you the whole time and digging the life lessons until you put humans and pterodactyls together. Never happened. Drumming booty call, and Starbucks by the babbling brook, I can believe, but flying reptiles and humans did not co-exist. Just a little thing, but as a biologist I am a stickler for details. But side from that, I have a question about your craft: why don't you play on your knees more - like Trilok Gurtu? I mean that guy is a killer drummer - well, percussionist - and he can't even afford a chair. Maybe that's the distinction between drummers and percussionists - chair vs. no chair? I would love some insight into this.
My instructional video will make your taints swollen. Type in "Kip Wanger" or "Hyper Flam". It's part of the Neutered Stallion Home Network. I apologize for desecrating this thread with petty solicitation, but it must done.
I appreciate your putting some information out there but all the swearing does not make you sound cool or impress anyone. Speaking of "life instruction" consider that younger people might be watching this and it sets a poor example of how to communicate as an adult and professional. When your language just turns into beeps it's irritating. Lastly you have no idea of the skill level of people watching your video....so maybe it's not a great idea to assume that there is no "f...way you'll get this". It's off putting....Bad minus.
I find this is less of a drum instructional video than it is a sort of arena for Dave's far out and whacky sense of humour as a means for light insight into the world of making music and drumming. In that way; I feel like he is really poking fun at a lot of the concepts that are out there about egotism and flashy playing and the things that musicians go through in their work and particularly in themselves (e.g. self doubt), I don't think anyone should really be taking this as serious drum instruction. Although, if you have a sense of humour, you will appreciate that as well the drumming aspect of this series.
I went to see one of his clinics in Milwaukee and he told us about this. It is a gag indeed. It's supposed to be entertaining and kinda educational. It's underneath the entertainment category. Not the educational.
Well in the first two minutes he makes _very_ clear this isn't a serious instructional series. But what's beautiful is that he actually makes a lot of valid points about music industry in between the humor. Just great videos!
Ah, this is where it all started. Greatest series on TH-cam, time to start it again.
Quite possibly the greatest drum / life instructional series available online or anywhere for that matter. Bravo.
Tim Harmston i agree this and Bernard Purdie really were interesting and both talk a lot about your own shuffle telling your own story, I like that seems like the people I play with like that too. Keeps me from trying to play like someone I'm not.
"there's no room for second guessing sh** when you're an artist." True life lessons by Dave
привет всем русскоязычным )))) после нескучного саунда тут оказался и офигел прикольный чувак )))
Great channel. And I hate pterodactyls too.
I was also raised a Lutheran in a Lutheran town. We've got that Lutheran feel.
Thanks to Scott Abels for bringing me here. I've been playing drums as an amateur for 25 years and I feel the need to reconsider not only my playing but also my general approach on music. This is exactly the direction I wanted to take. Thanks again Scott and thanks Dave.
no one is more inspirational for practicing than this guy
Cant wait to see where this channel goes
This is why they put the drummers at the back
Because they'd steal the spotlight
so this is what happens when drummers talk....
Yep.
I was going to like this comment, but I'd rather honor that it's currently at 69. Nice.
@@maxwellclark2345 you can come back and like it now, someone ruined it
Everything, Dave King says here, is so valid and true for every artist!
Florian Tuchacek commas
I've learned more watching Dave for ten minutes than I have in 49 years of hard scrabble life. FFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU I feel free.

Forty-five seconds of wit and wisdom condensed into ten minutes flat.
This guy is as full of himself as you can get without exploding.

Few things are harder to watch than somebody Trying to be funny...
This is like a bad imitation of Tim and Eric.

Dude. It's a gag

Are you serious? It's satire, you idiot.
