It's just romanticised because it's a show. In all likelihood he was some psychopath in real life. They all were to some degree back in the old timey days

This is one of those movies that somehow you come back to 20 years later and wonder how it wasn’t more popular back then??
The only reason is the role was not suited for Jackie chan and we love Jackie and that back when it came out but now I’m still rewatching it
You can watch A Legend (2024) which somehow makes the finale like the real ending.
