Your hypothesis about a heavier runner benefitting more from this shoe match my experience. I'm around 100kg at the moment, which means the weight of the shoe is much less of a concern for me, and I put a lot more force through that midsole so I get a lot back from it. It's my favourite shoe of 2025 for sure. Keep up the good work Edd, I look forward to more top content from you next year!

Probably the most enjoyable shoe I’ve ever ran in. Purchased with the intention of using for my first marathon but found the upper not quite comfortable enough and rocker too aggressive for my running style.
As a heavy runner, Nike didn't have a proper race day shoe for me, so after 12 years of Nike loyalty, I tried the Cielo X1 in preparation for my first marathon in a 6 year break. I liked the shoe so much that I built my entire Hoka rotation around them and this year's other hits, the Mach X2 and Skyward X. The great combination of cushioning and rebound in these shoes helped me stay injury free, lose 50lbs and complete a marathon and an Ironman this year. I wonder if the Nike Zoom Fly 6 would convince me to go back to Nike? ;) Happy New Year Edd!
Shoe of the year for me, fast, versatile, protective, super fun, absolutely incredible. I have run two marathons in it, weight is not an issue at all, what's more, it offers phenomenal protection and bounce over 30k. Keeps you going, keeps your leg fresh.
Great shoe!! So far, I have run nearly 200 km in CieloX 1, including one half marathon, one 15K race and some long runs. This shoe is well constructed, forgiving and very good to hold marathon Pace for long time. Looking forward v2!

I am looking to grab a pair of X1 2.0 when it comes out this Spring. Hopefully it being an ounce lighter will make it a top choice for Marathon distance in 2025.

My favorite shoe for any run, with the exception of races where I aim for PR. Has run one pair to the ground with what must be more than 1000 km. Have bought two new pairs. One pair for the thread mill and one for running outside. Just hope it’s not ruined in the next 1.2 version where they have cut weight substantially 🙈
Shoe of the year in my rotation, even the Sky Paris takes second place. I won a pair of these in a competition and would buy another pair in a heartbeat, there is nothing that is as much fun as this shoe. When you're 'on it' the weight is not even noticeable and the return is insane, the more you give it the better it feels. When you're tired, the stability is excellent for a super shoe and the comfort saves you on those long runs with that same infectious rolling bounce in the mid foot, even at slow speeds. Now, I've never run in an Alphafly and I'm no reviewer but had to give a shoutout to the shoe I turn to for all my runs. Smashing shoe!
Picked up very lightly used pair from ebay for £90. Bargain for that price, and it fits my very wide feet with that upper nicely (better than my Mach 6 in 2E which are bursting at the seems!)
This is one of my favorite shoes I bought this year. Love the bounce. Definitely a unique feel. I am not a marathon guy and still really enjoy these. The Mach X2's are still a faster shoe but also, a different feel.
@ Yeah must be the weight of the plates, thinner upper, by a tad, and different blend of the foam. The Cielo seems more bouncy than the Mach, where to Mach feels more punchy. But, that’s why we wear them and don’t design them, ha. Just watched a couple of your old videos on the Adidas Strung 2.0, as I just grabbed a pair in that Black color way, and never really did any real research on them in the past. I for sure watched your video on them, and knew you were not the biggest fan of the update. Surely there is a newer version around the corner but I was intrigued by the color way and decided to give them a whirl. They should be here Monday. I have been severely lazy as of lately with work taking up most of my time and have been wearing my Glycerin Max’s pretty much non stop for the past couple of months. They really are a treat when you want to just be comfy.

I have a pair in white and I can confirm that they changed the laces to something much more normal. I’m a heel striker unless I’m really pushing the pace so these work out for me although not for racing. I use it as kind of an everyday for medium to slower paces. It’s fun but overpriced for how I use it. Still glad I bought them just because they are unique and fun.
I think they are on the right track,but need a few tweets to work for me..mostly there's just too much shoe ..shrink it down all the way around..it's too hot,it's too heavy but I like the foam and the rocker might be the best I've used..it really rolls very smooth and easy thru the gait cycle..looking forward to V2..
I believe Hoka markets a track spike named Cielo X2. So the update to the Cielo X 1 jad to be named Cielo X1 v2.0 rather than Cielo X2. Why they have a Cielo X1 long racer and a Cielo X2 track spike on the market at the same time is anyone's guess. Makes almost as much sense as adidas' confused name scheme for the shoes in its Adizero line.
I want to try these but, as you pointed out, the pricing just isn't something I'm excited about. I'm not training for anything so i can't justify that much.
I did a Christmas parkrun in the Puma Deviate Nitro 2 (not the elite) and was only around a minute off my PB, which I thought was decent given Vaporflys would have been cut up on the gravel course. Did you watch the circus? 📺
Hoka has a spiked shoe that's called the Cielo X2, that's the reason for the Cielo X1 2.0 and i guess also the reason it was called the Cielo X1 to begin with. the spiked shoe was called the Cielo X. Looking forward to the 2.0 and the over ounce of drop in weight. i'm a mid foot striker and find the shoe works well for me. i wouldn't want to land on the heel as i find it pretty unstable back there.
My friend has run several PR's in them and been really fond of them. As for durability, the outsole started falling apart around 250 km. I think the small part fell off at that time, and he send me a video at around 270 km, where the large part had started loosening.
Hi Edd, if the Cielo X1 is more of a supertrainer than carbon racer how does it compare to the superblast 2? Which would make a better long run trainer and half marathon Racer?
The price is outrageous! Hell no Hoka. I remember selling my 10 year old Nissan Pulsar a decade ago for the price of 2 of these shoes. And that car was damn good too and still had heaps of kms left in it.
My one and only Hoka is the Mach 6, and while I'd call it good, I can't get around the...clunkiness of it. It's just not as streamlined as I'd like; the midsole, while nicely cushioned, is just too bulky. The fit is another issue. Not bad, but just not good, for me anyway. May try this and give Hoka another look.

I absolutely love Hoka shoes in general, I use them for all my regular runs during training but they are reaching with that price for not a particularly *special* shoe. Eg I'll pay for the alphafly 3 experience at just a bit more. Happy New Year Ed - great channel !

I also have the Skyward X and absolutely love it for all my daily running up to half marathon distance. I’m planning on getting the Cielo X1 2.0 for racing when it comes out in Feb. I’ll be doing my first marathon in April, so it will be good timing for that.
I honestly thought this was the worse super shoe I've ever worn, and I've worn most of the main ones. Uncomfortable, overlyfirm, felt heavy and slow, grip wore away substantially in the 100K I kept the shoe. Overall, just am awful, awful shoe.

The Mach x2 is perhaps the best of both worlds for me when it comes to Hoka shoes

It's a great shoe but I find the midsole too bouncy for me. Probably one of the more durable race day shoes available on the market.

I love both but they’re overpriced. I prefer skyward as a daily run/recovery run shoe and cielo as a race day/long run shoe
