I've watched this SO MANY times! Love to see and hear Bela and the boys tearing it up on a Scruggs classic. Bela's second break cracked my mind wide open!
Awesome!! Bela is rad. A little disappointed that Dennis didn't blow bubbles!!.....seems like he could coin a grand ole opry tradition with that move!!
Right hand? Maybe for jazz but not for bluegrass. He doesn't have the dexterity nor the drive and punch to play bluegrass. That's why I guess he plays the jazz stuff.
@@MasonCroneMusic I have listened to his old stuff. He was on the verge of it (having a driving right hand) at one time but never quite made it. I think you have to grow up around bluegrass to play it with the proper feel and drive. He has played slightly behind the beat for a long time. You've got to hear more than the notes.
@@EricEllis-b2m Bela is one of the best banjo players in history, I think he knows more about it than you. He’s not trying to play driving bluegrass. There are different styles.
Vintage pre-war I will assume. Was originally a tenor (4-str).It has a custom 5 str neck built(as do most pre-war Gibsons.)That banjo does ring like few. A lot of this is also due to the setup. He was told it was a 37’ TB-3, but I read he did more research and learned it was a 1941
Back n tha day (1980's) I used to play with a banjer player named Paul Karback. He played a flathead RB250. One day he just walked away from Bg. Whatta waste!!! Started playing with blind banjo player Wayne Harris. IMHO best player in Texas.
Banjo players - please take note. When the guitar or fiddle took a break, you could hear what they played. There aren't very many videos on TH-cam where this is true. This is because banjo players don't seem to understand with the word "back" means, in the context of backup. Bela was the closest one to the camera, and yet he knew how to make the banjo NOT the loudest instrument in the room. That fact alone makes him one in a million... then there is everything else he does.
Bela is a good picker. But no way would I put him in my best of the best. It might be just his style. Fairchild, Scruggs, and Reno are the standards. The rest just follow those men.
Fairchild, Scruggs and Reno and pretty basic players if you want to put them in comparison with fleck, I would suggest you check out more of his stuff.
sweet baby Jesus Belas decending lick on his second solo..
Eight and a half pound baby Jesus! It’s so incredible, and fresh... yet 100 percent Bela.
Can't wait to hear Mike saw that fiddle again!! #hope
Fantastic Jake Workman.
"Its like your on the verge of a mistake, but it never gets there" ... Perfectly stated
Bela really learned a lot of improv techniques from all the jazz he's played that translate really well coming back to regular bluegrass.
65gmb ,like you’re, sorry, but it drives me crazy, not a long drive!

Anthony Kost workman is savage.
Great performance. Reminds me of the masters of this The great Flat and Scruggs. Awesome tribute
It's an awesomeness overload!!!! I can't handle it!
Jake killed it!!!
Bela is a genious :-D !!
Outstanding!!! What ever Bela's on I want some! 😁 As for Jake... I think he must play that guitar in his sleep.... At breakfast, at lunch.. Etc. 😂 👏👍
Love that thumb work on the fall down....

Youre channel is on a constant loop in my house. Some of the best music I've heard in awhile.
Yo Russ. I just found this channel, and these vids are real strong. Keep 'em coming.
Can't wait to see live music again! This is awesome!
Damn. Beast mode
I wish I could do that, but I'm glad they can.
Wow .. all these guys are awesome musicians ... but Bela 8-) !!!

And not one finger come loose from their hands. I do believe quadruple joints helped in the making of this video. Added straight to favorite list.
Great picking,boys!
Might I say the head nod from Dennis Parker sealed it for me. Lol
Good God that's fantastic
Yes, sir indeed! Dudes can play!! ;)
Bela is the damn MAN!

@@EricEllis-b2mbro 😂 cope much?
@@EricEllis-b2mListen to some of his older stuff. He can play with drive and a sharp tone, he just typically chooses not to nowadays.

Caleb Shifflett Dear Old Dixie
Caleb Shifflett , like it says.
Is that Brian Sutton on guitar?
It's Jake Workman
I love hearing Bela play Scruggs Style banjo. The melodic style just doesn't do it for me. I love hard driving Scruggs Style 🪕.
