Colon really needs major transformation, I can see colon being a major district once more like Tokyo with all the streets and urban planning it has, it's already perfect with the fact the roads are wide and clean alley streets you could see but the gov't needs to take part of it if they want to revive this back.
Missin the place it was the first most urbanized places for long years yet oldest street in the Philippines after Spanish Conquistadors came it's part of those prestigious universities in the country's modernized hustle & bustle all walks of life daghang salamat for sharing

I am a Cebu native. For every locals born in the City, Colon is the most known. Since Spanish times, and during the time of Rajah Humabon, Spanish Conquistador Roy Lopez de Legaspi probably the first European to name the place after infamous European City called Cologne, a city of France. With time passed, the pronunciation and the spelling were cut short, and the right spelling too awkward for the locals. A habit Cebuanos are notoriously known. Noticed all things are made short to almost anything. This historical spot where I used to roam during childhood. As a kid I almost toured around the city for adventure and sightseeing even our house is in Mabolo, about 10 kilometers distant north. During Saturday and Sunday we kids went to the pier areas from the Carbon market side to the Customs to Piers 1, 2,3,4 and the once open Reclamation Areas in the late 60s and early 70s. My adventurous spirit went as far as I can go. To Beverly and Capitol Hills in Lahug Northwest of the city, and Mactan Island. Spending lazy days at the shorelines of the historical site of Battle of Mactan. During low-tide we kids just swam from the Salt Farm banks of Mandaue to the other side which are strewn with rocks, and rock formations. Back then their was no bridge, and the first was built in 1972 during Martial Law. I was first year highschool in USP Lahug. Those were care-free days of the young. Now 6 decades later, and after had retired from AFP/PNP service for 34 years, the days of young is gone. Twilight zone is dead-center straight ahead. I am now alone and separated from family. My military and police service destroyed my marriage,and alienated me from my 3 kids. Those 3 decades of assignment across the land literally constant away from them. My parents died without seeing me at their bedside. Patriotism had downside. "POR LA PATRIA" meaning for the country brought me to north, central, NCR and Bicol Region of Luzon, to Samar and Leyte, to deep down south of Basilan Sulu and Tawi-Tawi, whole mainland Mindanao, Mamasapano included. A covert operation to produce intelligence, for the surgical precision strike that I led would die with us remain untold. Life is just passing-by my friend. I beg forgiveness to my parents that I failed to served them at the moment of death. I was constantly too distant in the far-south arising from patriotic duty. I only realized how important parents are. Now their gone. My family too. Ironically, it was my mother who taught me the value of Patriotism.
Good thing colon streets are snatchers free already, back then early 2000 you can't just easily display your valuables in public. But I saw a lot of good changes in colon streets.
Sometime in 2014 I went to Colon, I sensed a touch on my backpocket so I protected my wallet. I got home and found my polo shirt was slashed from side to side because I protected my wallet. I have never been to Colon again, and never will again unless I'm in a vehicle just passing through.

I miss colon downtown, I’ll visit one day soon when the restrictions will be over. I was there almost everyday on my school old days.

Its has its own "university belt" where most well-known colleges are established or has a branch there. USC main, UC main, USJ-R, CEU.

The downtown needs a total rehabilitation like they did in Boracay and Manila Bay. Get rid of vandalism markings and stinks all around the streets.
