What a voice modulation by Amit Kumar. Nobody can recognise his voice here. He totally changed.
He was excellent in voice modulation. Listen to 'Kehdo ke tum ho meri warna' and 'Kajal kajal teri aankhon ka', he sounded different in both the songs. In songs like 'Dekho maine dekha hai ek sapna', 'Yeh zameen ga rahi hai', 'Kehdo ke tum', 'Jao tum chahe jahan', etc., he sounds much like his legendary father. While, he was quite different in songs like 'Dil ke aasman pe gham ki ghata chahi', 'Dushman na kare', 'I am a street dancer', 'Kaisa lagta hai', 'Aankhon mein bandh kar loon', etc. Especially, listen the songs 'Teri chaahat ke siva jaanam' & 'Dil jigar ke jaan accha hai' (when he sang for Rahul Roy), he was entirely different in these 2 songs. He didn't sound like his father. But, still there are many people who say that Amit Kumar was just a copycat of his father and nothing else.

It was the biggest hit song of the year 1989. Both Sapna Mukherjee and Amit Kumar received Filmfare nominations for this song. Sapna Mukherjee won it. Unfortunately, Amit Kumar couldn't win. We all know that it was Amit Kumar, who created the real magic in this song and it was Amit Kumar's superb rendition together awesome music which made this song a superhit. The kind of craze this song created in those days, was just of another level, no other song of that time created a craze of this level. A similar kind of craze was created in 1988 by the song 'Ek do teen' (male version sung by Amit Kumar and female version sung by Alka Yagnik). This 'Tirchi topiwale' song was heard everywhere. People of all ages, whether children or adults, all used to sing 'oye oye' to each other. People used to tease each other, singing 'oye oye' to each other. Such was the popularity of this song. Even it was banned by the police to say 'oye oye' in public, in those days!!

Don't care if Nasser hates his work in this, I love that he tried popular stuff and that it became a classic! He is so hard on himself for Tridev, but I always found it fun to see him in any popular stuff.
Well he himself said this movie extended his run in Bollywood by another 10 years. You may not get the desired roles all the time, but this movie was the one which had him flooded with offers in Commercial cinema. Post Tridev he only had Vishwatma, Sir , Mohra as hits , rest were average grossers. But he atleast found work & extended his career. Thanks to Rajiv Rai.
