- "Enga gi leichil" is a song sung to the devious clouds of June that brings rain, distancing the beloveds from one another. Through this lyrics i.e a conversation between two lovers, we try to manifest the lifestyle of farmers in the early manipur society, how people used to go from one place to another, their medium of communication, their ways of earning and surviving. Here in this song, the cloud is resented by a lady saying that it brings rain that blocks her lover's path to which the guys soothes his inamorata by saying that it was he who assembled the clouds to wash away her anxiousness.

this is a song about courtship. and they are often sad songs. a traditional one in every sense, from lyrics to composition. the girl teasingly or rather coly asks her beloved, using the seasonal metaphors - the comings and goings et al. then challenges the unassuming boy to prove his innocence, for he is the one with all the answers. the cause, like clouds and the rain. love and the pain. the initiation and consummation.
and the boy, caught in the web, responds to every riddle in the simplest, most straightforward manner.
in the very first verse, the girl compares love to seasonal rain which brings heartache and pain. but again, upping her ante, she continues, why so merciless. double entendre!
the boy, well aware of the tactics, asks - why are you waiting then, counting every moment and day of my arrival. it's nothing but natural, he says only to reassure her. but she blames/labels him a cowardice, saying - for such a handsome guy, you don't have the courage. she even invokes the very nature of manliness, comparing it to how steadfast a tree could stand against all odds, and how the very purpose of a girl's existence is usurped by his mere indignance. and, she continues to wax lyrical... proving her innocence, even though she is clearly the one playing her so-called game
here's one, in the next verse... she, feigning ignorance, says she can't even muster the courage to look at him, and his arrival, like the looming rain, makes her heart shiver thinking about everything that could happen. she also invokes how a poor..
the boy, presenting his stance once again, says he's for an eternity even if he's poor. dramatics. he even assures that their meeting is divine, orchestrated by the gods themselves. eventually, she concedes and joins the boy in a sing along. and they repeat it. but the girl, for one last time, raises that doubting finger.

for me, this song is something. and the voices are angelic. and as the description said... but the song says something else...

I literally don't understand even a single word but still touch my 💓... even i don't miss a single manipuri video when it got uploaded.. people use to question me why you use to listen manipuri song without not being understand by the lyrics..i simply answered them as why people listen to English,Hindi or South Indian song and don't tell me that they understand everything that's why they listened them....(they use to get the answer by itself..)
