Interviewer: You are more often here in Sarajevo. Are you in love with this city or so many people want you here?
Milan: I don't have a hair spray so I can't answer your question. We have to stop this interview so that I could fix my hair. Hahah, I'm kidding. Well I love Sarajevo, I don't know, it has some special energy. Somehow it turned out that everyone around me is from Bosnia. Assistants, manager, band, fans, people from my PR, even authors of my songs.. Everyone is here. Few days ago Buba and Jala were in Belgrade, I was like their host those 3 days. So I was showing them Belgrade because they showed me Sarajevo everytime I came here. I was driving them around Belgrade, was some kind of their personal driver. It's not what I usually do, I'm usually at home, don't go out much, but they made me do it.
I: Did you party hard in Belgrade nightclubs?
M: No, I told them: I will be with you during the day, but at night don't make me go out.
I: Why?
M: Do you know they are tireless? They don't need to sleep at all. And I was like "Please let me go, I'm a senior citizen, I'm 30 now hahah."
I: Really? I thought you were 25, 26.
M: Yes, that's the number. I don't know who's guilty for that, me or time.
I: Time is your friend.
M: Ok then.
I: Did you expect the collaboration with Buba and Jala would be a huge success? Is it 50 000 views on TH-cam?
M: Yes, 50 million now. Well that number is not a joke. And I worked a lot with them, actually I'm coming back to Sarajevo on Wednesday.
I: Did you consider renting an apartment here?
M: That's what my manager suggested to me long time ago. It would be more cost-effective. Because I'm very often in BiH. I could do that, spending some time here, then when I have concerts abroad I could live in Vienna.
I: Here in Sarajevo everything is very slow, I think you would like this atmosphere.
M: Absolutely, I like everything about Sarajevo.
I: Tell me, how was working with Buba and Jala?
M: First, they realized I'm egoistic, that was the first step in "Ego" making. Some people think that's cute, some people hate it and consider arrogant. What can I do, that's who I am.
I: Egoistic? In which sense? Let's talk about that a bit.
M: Well for example, if nobody praises me, I praise myself. I like being the centre of attention, since I was a kid. And most people are criticizing me for that. But I can't change it.
So I was in their studio, trying to sing a couple of songs and when I sang "Ego" we all realized that's it. That could be a good collaboration. And that's what happened. We did many more songs after that, all of them are on standby, but we wanted to let "Ego" be dominanant this year. And I think it really is. Let me now be that egoistic maniac.
I: Ok, praise yourself now.
M: I think nothing bigger or more significant happened this year regarding to music in our region. Numbers show that I'm 30 in spite of the fact that I look like I'm 20 or 16 years old. But on the other hand, numbers also show that "Ego" dominated this year and I'm very glad for that. We have one amazing song which we will probably do together, we also have one surprise. Because I say I can sing anything, rock, hip hop, pop, folk..
I: Don't tell me it's a folk song.
M: No, no. It's a great, modern song. So I came to the studio when Jala was shooting new video. And I said "Let me be in the video to increase that hype and add another 10 million views to the video". And I was in that scene with a cap, in some sweatshirt, trashy looking, rolling and smoking joint hahah.
I: I can't believe, I can't imagine you smoking weed.
M: It will be hilarious. I told Buba not to reveal anything, but he posted on his story. But people didn't get it. Of course it's tobacco, not a real joint. We just wanted to provoke a little bit.
I: We can see you have a lot of success after leaving Grand, but did you miss it in some moment?
M: What should I miss about Grand?
I: I mean missing having so big music production as your support.
M: I have a lot of people around me even now. The competition "Zvezde Granda" and many other exist 12 years and every year with a new season they produce 12 or more new singers. That's really a lot of people. But only 5 or 10 among all of them became big stars and have serious careers. And that's because of their own quality, not because of the big production supporting them. Yes, it's true that production can help you a lot, especially if you are the favourite there, but that can't last forever.
I: Speaking of that, I have to ask you is it true that Sasa Popovic forbade you to sing a duet song "Insomnia" with Jelena Karleusa?
M: Yes. That was our first fight actually. Back then, Sasa and Jelena were not in good terms and even though she wanted to do a song with me, he didn't let that happen. Interests of Grand were more important than our own. So yes, "Insomnia" should have been our duet, but he forbade me from doing it.
I: But now you have 50 million views.
M: Yes, I don't have Karleusa, but I have Buba and Jala.
I: We saw in every newspaper your photo with some mysterious girl. Does that mean you are in love?
M: Yes.
I: Who is she? Where is she from?
M: Oh, no no. You mean Danijela. But she's not the one hahah. She loves me very much, generally I have a lot of people who love me very much and have a special energy so I have to be friends with them. Then I went to Dubrovnik, she organized everything there. Many people contacted me when they heard I was there, managers of some club, photographers.. I even had photoshooting there. It was never boring, something beautiful was happening every day. I really enjoyed those days. And yes I am in love with some other girl, but let's not talk about it.
I: Is it hard to hide your private life from media?
M: I have to do that. Because they talk about the same thing for like 10 years, waiting for me to show someone new, but I won't do it. I would really like if people wouldn't talk about it. Even the biggest stars are trying to hide their private life. I don't want to be in the newspapers because I'm in a relationship with someone or I plan to get married. I want to avoid those headlines.
I: Did some headlines hurt you? They were brutal in the beginning of your career.
M: They are still brutal. I tried everything, I sued them, I was forbidden in the media, I won on court, hired a PR manager.. But when you think about it, people aren't stupid to believe all that. The best way to create an opinion about a singer is seeing him on the stage, listening to his interviews, his music and that's it. Especially nowadays, everything became so drastic, in this era of reality shows. In the media are blood, sex, something really brutal.. So I don't react anymore because there is some article about me every week, they don't even call me to ask if it's true. They just publish it. And I don't deny anything because people forget it the next day. The essence is my music and my word, and you know they have to write something to fill those pages. When I was in Croatia recently I noticed that their media have much better relation with their singers. They treat them with respect without any malicious comments. And in Serbia it's all so brutal. They accused me of asking money for interviews, they even wrote that people from royal family Karadjordjevic didn't want to sit with me in some event. They write all sorts of nonsense, but I can't go from house to house, knock on every door and deny everything. Now it's 9 years since I showed up and in all that time 90% of all articles about me were negative. The only positive thing is my music and my smile and something nice I say on TV hahah.
I: Your previous interview for our television has 400K views on TH-cam. Do you think this one will have more?
M: I don't know, I don't expect anything in life. So now that means that my next song will have more than 50 million views. I don't know if that's gonna happen. But I think I deserve so many views because I'm handsome.
I: When you release your next song with Buba and Jala we hope to see you again.
M: Yes of course. I want to promote all that and first of all you need to play that song on your TV, that's the most important thing. Otherwise I will throw a bomb on you. I'm kidding hahah, greetings to your viewers.
