Vintage, to me, were the original Harley Benton/Fazley/Jet etc... not quite the bottom rung of the pricing ladder, but enough value and quality to make it more than worth while... Sounds like another great Telecaster here,, and in a lovely colour to boot.
That sounds amazing, John. I have the vintage v100 and the v6... unbelievable guitars. I wouldn't touch them to upgrade them.. I'd say they're perfectly great as they are.
I heard a lot about the Vintage guitars, so much so that when I saw one at a brilliant price, I just had to buy it. Like you John, I have never really been a huge fan of the relic'd guitars but although this one is a relic'd black Tele, it isn't over done and, as I say ; at the price ( just £200 brand new !! ) I just had to snap it up. ( I am actually beginning to change my mind on the relic'd guitars. I guess it is just another kind of aesthetic .... and I don't have to be as careful with it lol ) It is the V62 Icon Series and it is unreal for the money. In fact, it is simply a brilliant Telecaster style guitar full stop. I'll send a photo to you for the Friday beer stream. Love that one of yours John. It looks and sounds exactly how a Tele should .... and, again like your good self ; I am not changing anything on mine. 😎👍
I wanted to explore playing a Les Paul with particular reference to Peter Green, and since his particular guitar and the Gibson clones of it were a bit beyond my budget 😅 I bought one of the early Vintage PGGM V100s when it became available in my local shop in 2012. I played it as it was for a couple of years but then started selective modding, and I think that’s where these guitars offer a great opportunity beyond simply being a good guitar for the money. If you do something irredeemable to it, it doesn’t matter for resale or posterity because it’s a Honda, not a Ferrari. I gutted the wiring loom and restored the 50s spec so it allowed me to try the dynamic control and playing stuff my heroes use. I also completely removed the finish on the top and got rid the thin flame veneer as I prefer a plain top and wanted to see what removing a couple of mm of poly might result in. I was prepared to find less than pretty maple grain quality below the veneer, but it was actually a 3 piece cap that had attractive pattern and matching, so that just got shellac (Hello Mick Ronson and Mark Bolan). I’ve never wanted to change the pickups or tuners. They both do what my reference points require. One thing though; the neck is small, not a club as described by PG for his 59 or commonly held to be common to the bursts of that year. I’ve come to realise my playing just adapts to the guitar, but any other guitar I’ve bought since I’ve started at the neck carve before proceeding with any other specs. You can’t change the basic chassis of the instrument. I subsequently bought a Vintage “SG” model that I extensively modded. really only leaving the body and neck after completely stripping back, and that has a bigger neck which suited me better and the neck a body just resonate better than any other guitar I own. It was a lucky find for those two features and gave me license to experiment with everything else. Do you need to mod these guitars? Will you look at yourself in the mirror afterwards and feel you’ve committed some crime against authenticity? The answer to both is no.
Sold all my high branded expensive guitars and replaced them with Vintage and Fret Kings! Yes they are great value and mine V52, V58, V72 have made them irreplaceable, if they were stolen or the house caught fire, heaven forbid I would replace them immediately. To be honest you could play cricket or paddle a canoe with my teles and they wouldn't go out of tune 😊
I own some H.B. Guitars. I sold one after comparing it to a similar one that I had already owned, and that was not quite up to my preferences between the two. Of the ones that I own, a CST 24-HB and a CST 24-T, I have no need to upgrade anything on either one. To be real honest, I sell guitars that I'm not happy with instead of throwing more money at them to try to make me like them.
Great title! The Vintage sounds like a Tele. It's good you'll have at least one run of the mill Tele (not counting the Nashville). But I wonder if this will remain un-modded long term or the mod mosquito will keep biting till you swat it.
I bought three cheap "B stock" Vintage Teles [2 black, i cream] when they first started using Wilkinson pickups. So that's what, 15 years or so ago ? The necks were different. One was really chunky. Manufacturing consistency within the same model might not have beeen spot on back in those days ??? Not long after I started collecting the more premium high specced Vintage Advance series of Les Paul, Tele, and Strat, inspired guitars..They still hold up as really nice instruments in their own right.
This is a very good tele. The radius at 10" is not much different from the 9.5" of Fender- unlike a lot of others that do the 12" and even the 16" radius. What's not to like?

Cheers mate 👍
Nice Playing, Nice sounding Tele. No need to change anything in my opinion.

I have a Vintage v100 as my back up guitar, it's absolutely fine and when I've used it, no problems with it, all stock etc.........
Sounds good John. No need to change it. A blind test with an American Tele might be interesting.
Already been done, for me the vintage sounds better 😢

Great Guitar, no need to mode imo, I have a HB TE62, sounds quite similar tbh, just shows you can get a decent tele without digging too deep

A real Tele Sound - great!! Thanks John!!
Sounds great to me John
I think that Vintage make great guitars for the money. Your tele sounds great in my opinion, no need for upgrades,

Well John, you could get a new neck and body. Then think about upgrading the pick ups and electronics. 😆
Trigger's broom 🤣👍
Stainless steel frets?
Nah... Already got a tele with those 👍
Agrajag it!!!!!
No need for mods John..
I second that: stainless steel frets… and maybe some for that red eye-candy strat!
That company makes INCREDIBLE guitars affordable.
Totally agree 👍
