      I bought and sold this lens. I was not happy with IQ BUT I was comparing it to Fuji primes (the hated 18f2 that I love and the 50f2). Now, realising the huge size of zooms, I'll probably buy it again before I go on my next trip. It's good enough for most shots.

    I've had my 18-55mm for a week now. I was getting frustrated with soft and inconsistent pictures. It LOOKS like the issue is that I needed to change my IS (image stabilisation) setting in my X-T30 menu from Continuous to Shooting Only. I'd read a couple of posts online where people had tried that, compared pictures, and found it better. Something to do with continuous creating a build-up of vibration that doesn't matter when filming so much but hurts still pictures. I've only tried the difference today and THINK I can spot a benefit. My pictures are really clear today, perhaps helped by the bright weather outside ... or by this potential fix. Will see.

      thanks for sharing! i've heard of this issue before. good to know that 'shooting only' helps with this!

      @@andrepel Does seem to :) Someone else gave me another good tip this week, which is to go into my camera settings and switch from RELEASE to FOCUS priority for the settings for AF-C (which is continuous autofocus). It just ensures it only takes pics at the moments where it's actually in focus, which should be pretty handy when my focus is hunting in and out when I've got it on continuous tracking of a target and using continuous snapping on the Drive dial. I won't set it to FOCUS priority when I'm doing regular manual focus etc, as I don't want it messing with any arty attempts to blur the 'main' part of an image!

      Tom Photo also has a review where he outlines this len's sweet spot sharpness on a graph using Laplacian sharpness, it is particularly good at F=10 making it ideal for landscape shooting.

      @@anonymousl5150 Cheers. I ended up getting an X-T4 and 16-55mm f2.8 combo, and haven't looked back. It wasn't cheap, but it feels so much more reliable (in terms of consistent sharpness and not having to fiddle with variable aperture etc) and I love it. It's not so heavy that I can't carry in my hand for hours if needed.

      Thanks for this. i’ve had mine for a week too and struggling a little with focus accuracy. It’s also very ‘hunty’ lens so this feels like it might help as a solution.

    I've done star trails with this lens at F2.8 18mm end. It's good enough for most things. I wish it was WR tho, because the size good.

    #dope video bro!
    Such a awesome lens for the price. I switched over from Canon to fujifilm and one of my friend's let me borrow the lens and I went and bought my own, along with so.e others.

    It sounds interesting and I wanted to get it with my first Fuji but now I'm happy I didn't. The Xc 15-45 is enough for me when it comes to zoom lenses. Is there a reason why none of Fujis prime lenses seem to have ois? The lack of ois and ibis on my xt30 with a prime lens makes handheld filming almost impossible

    • @andrepel
      @andrepel  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      i'm not quite sure! ois on a prime would be awesome but it could be a design thing. i've heard that adding ois can reduce the sharpness quality of primes by moving the lens element and adding blur. but maybe the engineers will figure it out in the future :)

    • @Jennifer-wr9si
      @Jennifer-wr9si 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      yeah I tried the 15-45. IQ was on par with the 18-55 and I preferred the 15-18mm but I hated the power zoom more than I expected!

    I feel that your photography tends to be "environmental", where you wouldn't really want to totally blur out the background anyway most of the time. I.e., where your subject is is part of the "story". :)

    • @andrepel
      @andrepel  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      you're right! i never quite thought about it like that. everyone seems to push for wide apertures so i sometimes think i need to shoot wide open all the time

    Ian Worth says it's sharpest at F11. 😂
