it was kind of a glossed over part of the video but the new 1-Complexity Sabotage is really fun and greatly improves its status of "I only kinda wanna do this once a week" mission. The Power Stations generate either in the same room as the Caretaker or really close which eliminates any and all backtracking. Considering the Caretaker is still a considerably long fight, I believe they could go one step further and have a 1-Length variation where you only need to hack 1 Power Station. They increased the spawn rate of Crates so it spawns like Helmets/Lost Armor does. Now to catch up for a great many hours with minimal spawns. Also the new Lithophage modifier increases nitra spawns, since it adds a primary objective.
There's one really awesome thing my group noticed, which is that some of the Spacerig decorations appear to be randomised or cycling. So the appearance of it changes just a little between visits. That's really fun.
I spent some time studying Latin and Greek root words, and I'd like to point out that "Lithophage" comes from greek "Lithos", meaning "Stone", and greek "Phagein", meaning "Devour", so we get The Lithophage, or Stone Devourer. pretty cool detail by the devs, right? They could've called this thing anything but instead they went ahead and used real world language rules....or they chose it because it sounds cool. Anyway, Brachos kai Petra!
Phages (or bacteriophages) in biology are viruses that specifically infect bacteria and archaea, so as a biologist that was the first thing I was thinking about! So a phage that infects rocks, pretty cool.
One new thing I noticed with cave generation (I encountered it on some salvage and egg hunt missions) are some tunnels that lead to dead ends, and don’t just always loop back. There were at least three rooms in those caves that were just empty, with barely or no ressources inside and tunnels leading to them. And I welcome this more varied way to not just having new rooms but organizing them in whole new patterns !
Now that you said it, I find it p weird for a game focused on deep dark cave exploration (and shooty bugs) have small amount, if any, dead end caves/tunnels. Bring em all in, I say! Heck, Deepnest biome when.
The meteors make me wish for more complications that can replace the usual swarm. Say... a bot raid, or a load of parasites popping out of the ground, or an infected Dottie miniboss, or an one of those exploding ghosts showing up for a little while.
Infected Dottie would be pretty awesome. Turning around then charging at the players suddenly, it might need some other attacks though, perhaps from the infection. And you could still choose to save her.
I think the Lithopage warning could be moved to its own mission type, where your entire mission goal is to kill a sufficient amount of infected glyphids that will be scattered around the level, along with any that spawn from waves. In essence the mission goal would say "Clean x lithopage spikes & kill 200 infected glyphids". But to make things more interesting than your average mission, the level layout should contain these fortified dens or nests of glyphids that really give the dwarves a fight. Instead of waves coming for us, we are coming for them.

Honestly one of my favorite changes this season was the buffs to the scouts weapons. the GK2 got some great buffs that put the gun in a much better place and give it some more build variety and some of the scout OCs that were pretty bad before (supercooling chamber, gas recycling, electrifying reload) got buffed. if you haven't tinkered with your scout builds recently now its a great time to try some new stuff out.

You can have multiple meteorites per mission. I was solo pumping the liquid morkite yesterday in Azure. The first metoerite impacted during setting of the lanes and the second impacted during last few percentages. One gunner joined me later after the first cracking, before the second meteorite. We was confused by it for moment. But we stoped repairing the lines, we cracked the second one and finished the mission. We got 6 hearts total, 3 from both. Now i wonder how many meteorites can impact during one mission ...

i love the foam anti lithophage gun because once ur done cleaning up you can use it to have squirt gun fights with ur fellow dwarfs. i wish to have squirt gun fights on the space rig during the next summer event
One thing not mentioned in this video is that the Lithophage Meteor event actually has two versions. The large one covered in the video and one where around half a dozen small meteor fragments strike the surrounding area. These small meteor fragments can be broken with 5 regular pickaxe strikes, and one of them is guaranteed to contain a plagueheart with the rest having an extremely small chance of containing one.
I did the spray vacuum mission during a morkite mining mission. It was a little difficult due to the giant horde of infected bugs that showed up just as I ran out of ammo. I ended up having to slay a bunch of loot bugs to get enough nitra to call down a resupply. Luckily it was a giant map and I kept running in wide circles until I was able to grab ammo. Very fun.
Definitely a step forward in terms of how Seasonal content is handled. It's presence is felt without being overbearing, or demanding. Past seasons forced you to do multiple robot missions, which were (in retrospect) maybe not the most well-balanced missions. Having the main "thing" be a mutator or random event lets players more or less play the game how they want, playing the missions they wanna play. Also, I'm glad the focus on new weapons/tools is smaller. I've seen people complaining that there's "less content" this time around, many were expecting a whole new batch of weapons, which is... insane, to me. Weapons take a long time. And people forget that new weapons were planned _before_ Seasons were a thing. They just so happened to come up with the Seasonal update idea and toss the new weapons in there. A smart idea, but unfortunately seems to have given some people the impression that every Season is going to be absolutely massive in scale. I mean, if every new Season either added new weapons or mission types, we'd eventually have massive bloat in terms of options. Too many choices _can_ be a bad thing. I'm expecting Seasons to generally get smaller and smaller in scale, but nonetheless remain their new way of introducing weapons and mission types from now on. I just... can't understand how people complain about free content, though. Of course 'free' doesn't mean it can't be criticized, but saying, "I want more this isn't enough!" isn't criticism, it's entitlement. At the end of the day though, DRG is still steadily growing and the number of cool, friendly players who actually care about the game will only grow with it. Whiners are temporary, miners are forever. Rock and stone.
I agree about the weapons part. New weapons are cool but a new set every season will definitely become overwhelming. I think the new seasons from now on will focus more on adding new missions and hazards with the occasional new loadout item - and that's probably way easier for the devs to design and balance.
Going engie now and having two sentries, a swarm of tiny robo drones and a gun that basically shoots for you feels soo cool, especially when I'm solo and can add bosco to that.
Note: the SSG is very good against lithopage swarms. The circling attacks it does usually pop all the blisters, so you can just sit back and be cautious while letting the drones clear everything. Me and my friends all ran these on a 3 spike, haz 5 misson, and even with haz 5 3 player scaling, the drones handled these enemies with little to no effort. Very fun
Hell yeah update time! Even though I'm on console and will have to wait another 2-4 weeks for the update, it gives me time to get myself situated (I'm a Greenbeard who's done a little bit of research on this game) so here's to that! ROCK AND STONE!
Really impressed with the cosmetic tree this season. I love the weapon frameworks, and all the dwarf cosmetics I really want to have. Definitely their best one so far
A small thing you forgot to mention about the Driller's grenades is that they changed the HE grenades so you can cook 'em before you throw 'em, effectively shortening the fuse. Between the 6 grenades and the more reliable fuse, I actually like them now (speaking as someone who tried HEs before the changes)
ik imk extremely late but I can't wait for power wash simulator to add a procedurally generated cave minigame in the back garden of whatever random house you're cleaning
I really love the addition of the lithofoamer, because despite dealing abysmall damage it deals damage which means you can get a lot of loot from lootbugs without killing them
Best place to throw the gunner grenade is at your feet. There is a small, dwarf sized, safe zone right on top of the grenade where no bullets land. Basically an offensive shield.
shredders as a grenade now is a fantastic touch! Imagine if they take a little bit of tech/theme from each previous season to benefit the arsenal of the next? that would be a great addition!
Mission Control now has voice lines for when you spam “We’re rich!” on compressed gold and bittergem. And I believe there’s also new salute voice lines. At least one that I hadn’t heard before.
Wanted to jump into this solo cuz it was past midnight, my friends were sleeping, and I had chores to do. Had to collect eggs, kill flees, learn how to deal with 2 Plague Spikes, hack a Data Deposit, and then killed myself with the buzzsaws. This game now has so much going on at once, and so modular. Sometimes you're just mining stuff and everything is chill, and other times you get an insane combination of modifiers. It's awesome. I hope the Rival Presence warning sticks around and crops up with the rarity of Low O2 or Haunted Cave.
I’d like to add that the lead sprayer for the gunner is AMAZING against the twin dreadnoughts, especially the melee one. All you have to do is throw down the sprinkler right before the dude pops out of the ground and all the shots will hit him.
The gunners grenade has dmg multiplier based on distance, up close it makes 5 % dmg and the further the bug the more dmg. In 11 meters it does 400% of its original dmg (100)
as a Gunner Main, i adore the Leadburster. my favorite thing to do with it is kite a horde and throw it into the middle of them to clear out as many as possible. the only complaint i have about it is that it will bounce off of the bugs which delays activation and can make a difference if you need it to hit the ground NOW rather than half a second from now. having to go solo because Sony is a butt makes other problems noticeable, such as Bosco prioritizing attacking the bugs over vac'ing up the foam. a change i'd like to see for Bosco is him targeting weak spots on bugs you ping directly, which would be a tremendous boon as the glyphids never target him anyway.
You forgot to mention the most important part of the update: while hunting, the nemesis now says ‘we’re rich’ and ‘mushrum’
Does it really?

But it's kinda dissapointing that it's just two infected enemies for now :(
sorry adding an annoying pressure wash simulator just so i can finish a mission is just annoying
I love how he uses music from grindstone (one of my fav games) when talking about another of my fav games
"these meteors contain a lithophage which bores into rock and stone"
ok well played Sniss, well played.
You love to clean? Then boy do I have an offer for you!
loving the warthog framework, looks like the conference call
I'm definitely excited for this. This new season and Darktide will certainly fulfill my desire to kill hoards of infected things.
They also added a bunch of new Mission Control voice lines that trigger when you spam "we're rich!" and "mushroom!"
I think they said it would be the 10th for us this time around man.
Nvm they posted 17th!
@@ShotGunner5609 oh sick :D
New season looks awesome. Just watched the premier of the release trailer, and I'm pumped!
Really impressed with the cosmetic tree this season. I love the weapon frameworks, and all the dwarf cosmetics I really want to have. Definitely their best one so far
I love my little shredder buddies, I can't leave this grenade in the rig. I just love watching em go
A small thing you forgot to mention about the Driller's grenades is that they changed the HE grenades so you can cook 'em before you throw 'em, effectively shortening the fuse. Between the 6 grenades and the more reliable fuse, I actually like them now (speaking as someone who tried HEs before the changes)
They're so satisfying to use now. Feels like long range c4
ik imk extremely late but I can't wait for power wash simulator to add a procedurally generated cave minigame in the back garden of whatever random house you're cleaning
One day they'll add food to the abyss bar. None of them will give buffs, just goofy lines and animations.
"like a Gary's Mod Deathrun trap"
This. . .
This was an amazing analogy.
shredders as a grenade now is a fantastic touch! Imagine if they take a little bit of tech/theme from each previous season to benefit the arsenal of the next? that would be a great addition!
I think throwing rockpox at glyphids fits driller the best, he already has a large arsenal of war crimes
The tools are badass we need more variety like that new types of missions not just a reskinned mission we already have
When i heard in the background the music from Grindstone i was like that's familiar and nice to listen to! I see you are a man of culture as well 🔥
one of the best game soundtracks! been listening to it a ton :)
Mission Control now has voice lines for when you spam “We’re rich!” on compressed gold and bittergem. And I believe there’s also new salute voice lines. At least one that I hadn’t heard before.
Thanks for the overview! I was hoping to find a rundown of all the new stuff :)
Fantastic overview video, man! Great content as always!
I love this game so much… I hope they continue giving us amazing content like this
I played it this week and the little details around the rig made me say it was the "Corona update"
Just give me an infected dreadnought, and I will be content with this update. Or a final bossish infected smt dunno
"...and if that don't work, use more gun!" - gunner with the new grenade
This is all the info I needed.
The cosmetic pack is my favorite part I like feeling like a hazmat unit sent in to clean a biohazard
The gunners grenade has dmg multiplier based on distance, up close it makes 5 % dmg and the further the bug the more dmg. In 11 meters it does 400% of its original dmg (100)
The Tactical Sprinkler might be my favorite of the four new grenades
"Plaguefall" is my new name for the autumn flue season.
Driller actually got two new grenades. The HE Grenade is fantastic now with the new changes. I highly recommend running it for a ton of fun.
as a Gunner Main, i adore the Leadburster. my favorite thing to do with it is kite a horde and throw it into the middle of them to clear out as many as possible. the only complaint i have about it is that it will bounce off of the bugs which delays activation and can make a difference if you need it to hit the ground NOW rather than half a second from now.
having to go solo because Sony is a butt makes other problems noticeable, such as Bosco prioritizing attacking the bugs over vac'ing up the foam. a change i'd like to see for Bosco is him targeting weak spots on bugs you ping directly, which would be a tremendous boon as the glyphids never target him anyway.
steeve is sick we need to help him
