There's wrong definition of Rawtuai and Mautuai. We have two types of Bamboo - Mau and Rua. They are the same family, but different kinds like Cat and Tiger. Mau is smaller in size, usually upto around the size of wrist and are grown wide area. You can see Mau in almost everywhere in Mizoram. But Rua is different. It is bigger than Mau which sizes upto the size of thigh or bigger than that also. They grows occupying small area usually 10ft to 20ft round. They can be found usually nearby stream or river banks and in the wet area. So, Mautuai is a shoot of Mau and Rawtuai is a shoot of Rua. They are definitly different grass.
Rua will be in clusters and share their roots... while Mau will stand alone and seperate roots..yet don't be fooled just because you see a clump of Maus in a small area.. :D

Cold rice... jeezzz 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️ I can feel how bad it would taste. If you travel to Lunglei (or any southern mizoram) and champhai, you should try the roadside restaurants on the halfway there.. they make good mizo traditional foods.

I don't know if you have tried eating beef soup with 'anthur rep' which is a sun dried hibiscus leaves. Its a very delicious traditional food. Asked mawii to cook it for you. Fyi aizawl- kolasib roadside food isn't tasty from my experiences.

I will not eat cold food. Vegetables (tlak) or chum is ok. But the other food has to be hot. Kolasib is my place where I born and brought up and we the people are very good and friendly. I miss Kolasib. If God’s willing I’m coming home from ( USA 🇺🇸) In the month of January 2023.

Your wife grow up in aizawl, and she doesnt know that we have many varieties of bamboo. Mautak or simply mau is the most common bamboo in mizoram, and then we have, phulrau, rawnal, rawthing,etc. In bamboo shoot, we mostly prefer rawnal tuai and mautak tuai aka mautuai. All except mautuai, the rest we call rawtuai
I was in Mizoram for five years, and I really liked Mizo food, not oily but hmm very tasty till now I miss Mizoram so much
