May mga instances kasi na I construct sentences na akala ko maayos na, pero alam kong may mali at hindi ko lang ma-pinpoint kung ano 'yun (which is comma splice pala), yet you helped me once again! Well I think po both are correct, but she used HAD since the first independent clause was written in past tense, but you can have set of independent clause that have different tense.
Ex:
He failed yesterday, so we are going to help him tomorrow
