- Here's my earlygame setup for automating bonsai tree processing. Resources are automatically collected, stored, and crafted into ambers and gems. Here, I use crates and auto-packagers to automate the system; item movement is driven by Thermal Expansion itemducts, servos, and filters.

I'm playing Modded Minecraft 1.12 - Sky Factory 4 via the Twitch launcher.
Items necessary per tree in production:
1x Hopping Bonsai Pot
1x Mulch of choice
4x Crate (resin, sapling, acorn, crafted output)
1x Trash Can (leaves, can be used with other saplings)
1x Auto Processor (crafting)
3x Servo (basic)
1x Filter (basic)

Bonsais directly on top of ducts is bad for servers. A chest should be there inbetween.

with retriever u can set the max on how much there goes in... so u can set it to max a stack of the items u want it to retrieve, that way u wont have to keep an eye on the backlog

what version of sky factory 4 you on because my version seems to be out of date with the version of bonsai trees that has hopping pots?

How did you lock your Crates so that they cannot lose their item Edit: I found out how, If you make a 'crate key' you can lock a crate via right click :)

Clogging is a serious problem when scaling up production with this design. You should probably scale up to a higher throughput system -- mine is supposed to be simple, getting you the resources you need to get to the next tier (AE2)
It's better to use simple storage processing cable with the inventory upgrade
