    Bit of a note on Giant Scorpions. Their stinger does not inject lethal venom. It has a tranquilizing effect. After the victim falls asleep it eats them alive. This is not unusual for arachnids.

    3:11 *Saluets* Even in death you make the world more wonderful. As our kind should.
    But you also reminded me that I too am not immune to old age, as you were not. That wasn't very nice.

    Or you know... the basket could contain a baby :P

      It definitely could!

      Cue a night full of baby Moses jokes if you do this.

    More sand? Okay, let's see what I can come up with as riffs.
    Floating basket - mimics can do baskets. I bet some prankster of a mage could enchant a basket of devouring too. Or more effectively, maybe the basket is linked to another identical basket in that wizard's lair, and he can reach out and take anything placed in it for his own, or put things into the one the players hold. Maybe there are dozens of the damn things all networked to a single hub and he sends them out on streams or leaves them around in villages and cities or on passing caravans. Maybe he has homunculi small enough to teleport through the basket that sneak out at night to steal things? Will the PCs have to shrink down or polymorph into small animals to pursue and get their stuff back after figuring out how to reverse the link?
    Sandstorm - a good survival roll ought to let them make quick preparations to survive on the surface if need be, but it's enough to apply a level of exhaustion even then, and less-hardy mounts or pack animals (ie not camels) might need to save or die.
    Underground shelter - even a small flying carpet can carry quite a lot of weight (albeit slowly) so be careful about handing out something that might trivialize the rest of the journey and many encounters. Of course, figuring out the command word might be a difficulty.
    Dragon bones - so, are dragon bones worth a fortune to collectors or as components for enchantments, rituals, or dark necromancy? Bet they are - but they're also really heavy, and the valley will lose its fertility if they're taken from it, and how do the natives feel about that idea? Maybe the PCs don't steal the bones but someone else does and the PCs get blamed or shamed into recovering them? The locals really ought to store these things more safely, eh?
    Burning farm - maybe the fire was started by some flame-related monster that's been plaguing the area. Surely there's a bounty on that thing, right? Or maybe your party is carrying half of a petrified dragon skeleton and not being painfully executed for trying to steal the valley's blessing is the "reward" for going off to fight a pyrohydra or whatever it is?
    Quicksand - there's alot of water in quicksand, and while straining it into something potable is a chore, it's worth the effort if you skins are dry in teh deep desert.
    Druid Vulture - hey, I wonder if this guy's into magical basketweaving as above? Maybe sending evil monkeys through to steal stuff is better than homunculi? Or snakes, or scorpions to flat out kill the PCs? Or maybe he shifts into something small and comes through to do the job himself, with or without allies?
    Medusa - I swear, every GM in the world should be thanking Ray Harryhausen for Clash of the Titans. Without that film we would never have gotten the whole "medusa archer" trope. Just look at early editions, the poor snake-ladies carried freaking daggers like some bookworm magic-user. They didn't even get darts. Even M-U's got darts! :) The modern ones really should need to make willpower checks to use stealth though. If they fail they lose focus and start with the rattlesnake thing, giving themselves away to anyone with ears. That's all Harryhausen too. Precious few rattlers in ancient Greece.

    Great video, as always! I love the mix of challenges and adversaries. Any thoughts on what the next video will be?

      Thanks friend! I have requests for more forest encounters and a homebrewed dice game. I'm always open to more topics though :)

      Thanks friend! I have not had the opportunity to use a Lamia, though their Intoxicating Touch and innate spell list seems like it would be a lot of fun

    3:39 "annoying barn"?

    • @TheCuriousOwlbear
      @TheCuriousOwlbear  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Does kind of sound like that, but I said "adjoined barn"

      @richmcgee434 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Regardless, as someone who was raised on a semi-active farm "annoying" is the most polite term I'd use for barns. Livestock *never stops pooping* ever, I tell you. :)
