Bigger tires means more rolling resistance, which is bad. But they obviously mean more grip, as well, which means you might be able to take more corners without braking. Buuuuuuut if you're not rolling at speeds high enough to challenge your grip anyway, then that's moot. Or if there's only one corner that benefits from the extra grip, all that rolling resistance might be a detriment overall. This is, of course, assuming Forza physics resemble reality at all.
Yes! Best part of Forza 4 was doing this on Fujimi. The way we used to launch in FM4 was do standard manual, veeeery low revs in reverse and then release.
Anything that improves your grip on gravity with low rolling resistance and (in the end) cornering prowess will be your best friend. So weight, tall skinny tires, and decently aerodynamic. Playing within the game's physics engine, of course, means something else from true reality.
I actually invented this game way back in Forza 1. The fastest cars back in Forza 1 & 2 was the Dodge Viper and the Saleen S7. Another fun game I invented was "Blown Motor Hillclimb". Everybody picks the same stock car and before a hillclimb, you rev the motor until its blown (all red). Then everyone lines up and you start. Getting up some of the hills gets real tough and you have to zig zag just to get up. You guys may want to try "Dirty Driving Soap Box Derby". Same as soap box, but drive as dirty as you want. Takeouts are strongly encouraged. Have fun.
@failrace: you might have too much grip? You seemed to be slowing down through the corners. Could also be what took you long to pick up speed along with the engine being in the rear and the car super light. All bad combinations
It seems that what you need above all is a heavy car that has good aero to gain speed in the middle sections. The likes of the Volvo and the Jaguar XE were pretty spot on choices
fun idea! a much larger version of this could be done in assetto corsa on the transfagaran (sp?) mod. i know for a fact you can coast all the way to the bottom. it might even be possible on trento bondone but i havent tested it. no traffic to worry about, much longer runs, and, of course, its more realistic.
You do the best race game vids on you tube , you always have the best events, do more survive the hunt its genius (like the races too but your survive the hunt vids are the best gaming vids ever, so exciting, even if not much is happening it has tension and "what if" at any moment)
@failrace, I would try reducing the straight line contact patch with negative camber, more tire pressure and use a car that is more slippery aerodynamically. You also need weight to keep the inertia, but not suv weight.
Theoretically, for soap box racing on asphalt (whisper it not) a Prius on standard tyres should be good. A decent amount of weight and low rolling resistance tyres as standard (the same ones which come on the GT86 and BRZ as standard...)
No freakin way, I was literally gonna tweet at Alex to do this coz I was doing it on the giant drift road, what are the chances, but I didn't, can't wait to watch this
my guess is you need weight with decent aero. the suvs are massive bricks theyve got weight but arent well shaped. the cars like the ferrari and the 4c are well shaped but arent that heavy. the jaguar is pretty much the perfect middle ground as for why the mercedes c63 struggled my guess is it was held back by thick tyres and i assumes thats why your porsche struggled too. i do wonder how diffs would effect this too.

Dave Starr I think medium sized tyres that have the highest pressure possible could be quite good
sure does
Damn. There's more strategy to this than I thought. Maybe Alex should make a full series out of it.
So for an event like this, assuming that forza's physics are realistic, you want skinny tires, low resistance tires?
Alex also tends to run race aero on his builds, so more drag too.
The most ecologically exciting race
I wonder if increased tire pressure would make a difference. Also wouldn't wider tires have greater rolling resistance and thus be slower?
probably so
But with wider tyres you have more grip so can carry more speed and momentum through the corners, so its a case of finding which makes more gains
I maxed the pressures on the 4C, didn't seem to do a whole lot
@@AMG568 apart from make it harder to see out of apparently. XD
In theory higher pressure should help because tyre will touch the ground with smaller area
I think one of the vintage racers, despite being crazy expensive, would do very well considering their light weight and narrow tires.
Never knew a car race without engines would get me so pumped lol
Yes! Best part of Forza 4 was doing this on Fujimi.

so true
I would totally use 2CV for this with it's narrow tires.

It's coming, they recorded a GTA one tonight.

Soapbox racing is best racing

I really like the commentary when you're not driving. Sounds almost like a professional commentator.
Damn that free camera operation was great. So smooth and looked very professional.

The Audi was great in testing but decided to ignore gravity when we came to film it :(
Don't blame your car, blame the wheels.

And in this video, Alex learns why soapbox racers have bicycle tires irl
Tyre width increases rolling drag on the surface. You need to balance between grip and rolling resistance.
If the Ram had more grip ie had race tires i recon it would have been much better
so true
I think we can tell what my problem was (apart from the driver in the 4c) XD
just subscribed. Love your commentary in your videos. Keep up the good work👌

How did you buy the Porsche Cayenne?
Conclusion Super Front Heavy cars are best in this kind of event.
I would have said something like either a muscle car or a defender for weight and small tires
Needle climb next?
any chance there is a soap box race with VW buses if there are any?

When your doing soup box racing pick heavy cars
Why does revving help at launch if the clutch is down?

heavier and less drag = good.
Soap Box is best challenge
larger tires mean more friction

The heavier weight helps the SUVs with gravity pulling them harder than the smaller cars. Also the wide grippy tires increase rolling resistance
