I think this song is a pretty good representation of human fear of the unknown, or what we would believe to be evil because of how judgmental people are. How ready to fight and determine something is bad if it has a bad impression. This song is also kickass and every song in the original soundtrack is just beautiful, from the most memorable such as Be our Guest to more forgettable ones, such as Something There. It’s just fantastic.
The saddest part of all of this is that the Beast really thinks he deserves this because now he’s lost Belle. So he just sits there and let’s them almost kill him
Probably the best song from this movie. I'm not very invested in the storyline, but this song got my blood PUMPING. It made it feel like there were actual stakes in the movie, not like it was a Disney movie where everything would just be fine at the end.
yea i don´t understand why disney felt the need to do minute changes to classic songs everyone´s already in love with. for me it kinda ruined things making it so i just eventually sat there waiting for the changed things to cut my ears and pull me out of the movie/story... same or even more in aladdin but i guess it´s similar/same to all the remakes.. it´s a weird choise disney! f#¤%ng with classics...

That line reminds me of in The Hunchback of Notre Dame. In the first song, he says toward the end “who is the monster and who is the man?” Because frollo called Quasimodo a monster but frollo turned out to be the real monster
Am I the only one thinking this song is the precursor to the Pochahontas song Savages? The only other Disney song where you here both sides being equally heartfelt, effusive and perfectly descriptive of themselves?

I highly recommend checking out the work, if only to fully comprehend Hamilton’s comparison of his circumstances to the plot of Macbeth-particularly the foreshadowing thematic relevance of how too much ambition can lead to one’s own downfall.
Gaston is pretty tame compared to other Disney Villains. TBH, that's why I love Beauty and the Beast so much 'cause everybody reacts as they should. The Village, plus Gaston, only reacted to the Beast negatively 'cause of what they don't know and presumed the worst, just like Belle and her father did, when they first encountered the Beast. It wasn't until Belle got to know the Beast and understood more of who he is instead of how he's perceived. Gaston is just an arrogant man and wanted nothing more than to covet "the most beautiful girl in town". He didn't like Belle because she's awesome but because she's the most beautiful. Gaston viewed Belle as more of a trophy than a person. He's not evil, per say, just arrogant. You want some evil Villains, look into The Horned King from The Black Cauldron, or Frollo from The Hunchback of Notre Dame. Those Villains are something else.
But Gaston is psychotic! His sanity and appearance deteriorated as the movie went on. At first, he is very well groomed, speaks coherently, is attached to reality, and behaves normally; near the end, his hair is disheveled, his speech is not coherent, his behavior is erratic, and he is detached from reality. This song is when Gaston breaks.
Not necessarily, I stated, him and the rest of the village reacted accordingly. Remember, Belle and her father weren't that warmed up to the Beast, in the beginning either. It wasn't until the Live-Action made Gaston more Psychotic. The animated version, he's fairly tame.

He only saw Beast as a jealousy and used fear of the mob to get want he wants accordingly and locked Belle and her father away. What a psycho. That's why Belle saw Gaston's the monster. ..thus that makes him the best villain to fight Beast. Similar but not. Difference is Beast(angry and cursed) did change and Gaston(prideful and loved by many) didn't.

The 2017 remake was 20% less aggressive than the 1991 version.
