He became friends with everyone but got bored and went on a killing spree. Chara never has control over the reset button. Frisk and chara make friends with everybody but FRISK is the one who starts the genocide run and kills everybody up to sans. Chara has only ever killed sans. Flowey and asgore. While frisk/the player and flowey have killed over a hundred people

When the humans attacked. Chara wanted to kill them to take their souls and go back and break the barrier. Asriel could not bring himself to see his best friend kill people so he restrained her. Which made them get killed. Chara was not gonna give them a quick death. But she was only gonna kill 6 of them and retreat. Even she knows how strong humans are. She would not risk going on a killing spree.
