Unfinished Tales is perhaps my favourite book of all the Tolkien works. The story you mentioned, about the meeting of Gandalf and Thorin, and how he got thirteen dwarves to team up with a hobbit makes good reading. Also the section on the Battles for the Fords of Isen adds good details about the Riders of Rohan. But perhaps best of all is the description of the Oath of Eorl and the answer made by Cirion.

Are the illustrations in this edition printed on glossy paper, or the same "matte" paper as the rest of the book? Thanks
