  • We camp at Liberty Harbor RV Park, in Jersey City and from there it is a very easy commute to Manhattan. We visit the 911 Memorial, One World Observatory at the new World Trade Center. Then we take a walk on the High Line, and then wander around Chelsea and Gramercy, taking in the sights, sounds, and smells of the Big Apple.

    We moved to New York back in 1955. My father was a construction electrican. We moved across the bay from NYC to Rockaway Beach. We lived up there for 4 years. We came back to Tennessee to get our trailer and moved across the river to a trailer park in Bayonne, New Jersey. My mother and I would get on bus and go shopping in NYC. My mother was on The Price is Right in 1958. We moved back to Tennessee in 1959. My Mother and I did not want to leave But my father got traansferred to a job here. I like your channel. Hope you have a wonderful week.

    Another great video. We were there in July of 2018. Liberty Harbor is a good deal for where and what it is. We took the Path for a few days into NYC. And the other ferry to Ellis island and the Statue of Liberty. After 3 days of underground traveling the ferry is the way to go.
    Yes the 911 memorial is amazing I’ve never heard so much silence. Even though there were little kids in there there was no screaming. It was as if they knew to be quiet and respectful. Very somber and a good way to remember those that perished!

    Next time you're in the Philadelphia area you really should head to New Hope Pennsylvania... that whole area around there this fascinating and Bucks County is marvelous although I haven't lived there in a long time but was fortunate enough to do so years ago back when it was still a lot of gorgeous truly breathtaking land and a community with artists writers and farmers.
    Although it has changed immensely people tell me it's still great to go there and you might want to check out the area and River Road traveling north from New Hope .
    Also when I was listening to your live stream Saturday afternoon and at the end you did your song... I really liked it so much better than the one that is at the beginning of most of your videos.
    I really wish someday when you have the time you will change the song at the beginning so that it is more authentic and we hear you and your personal style, your personal stamp on it .

    What a wonderful visit to The Big Apple! I used to travel to NYC every couple of weeks....used to meet my colleague coming off the PATH train into the Twin Towers from Jersey. As a group we would enjoy a drink at the Windows on the World after the work day. Still terribly sad seeing the absense of the towers although I enjoyed seeing your footage of One World Trade Center. Also love see the Skyline ....on my bucket list. Nice seeing you and Ileana in the reflection ....very creative! You are right .....no place like New York. Thanks Robert!

    Thank you. Typically NYC is presented with such hype and bravado that I can take only about five seconds of it. You made NYC feel like a real place on earth, where real people eat, sleep and work--not just a place for celebrities, billionaires, and over-priced, over-rated stuff. Thanks to you, I feel I could visit there as just another place in time, an unbiased sense of history and geography. Someone commented below that you reminded him of Anthony Bourdain; and I agree, except that his hometown, NYC, is the one place on earth where even he would not convey his usual sense that we all share a common humanity.

    • @djwestbrook36
      @djwestbrook36 ปีที่แล้ว

      New York City is where you will understand that we all share a common humanity THE MOST. You need to come to NYC and visit all the five boroughs and neighborhoods. You will learn more about America and the world than driving through five midwestern states.

    Another great video! Wanted to ask, have you ever been to Katz's Deli? If not, you have to put it on your list for your next trip to NYC. And I would suggest you have to get a pastrami sandwich there. On my list of best things I have ever eaten. Bit expensive at about 20 bucks, but one will feed two people very well. Quite the experience too, you really have to pay close attention to the ordering/billing rules.

    You should have gone in Federal Hall! A free but small museum inside. Federal Hall in New York City was home to Congress for a total of about four years. Call it our 8th capitol. It's where Washington had his inauguration as the first President of the United States. And the 911 museum is well worth the visit but you have to reserve tickets in advance. The Docents are mostly people who were there at the attack by Followers of Islam and the docents are walking history. I like your videos because it seems like it is me walking around!

    Very nice video. Haven't been to NYC since 2015. That was my first trip to ground zero. I had only planned to be there an hour and keep touring Manhattan, and visit central park..........8 hours later reading each name on the memorial pools and spending the rest of the day at the museum.........it was just very moving since I'm a veteran of both Iraq and Afghanistan and continue to serve with the US Department of State. I want to say this though......you mentioned the memorial pools being the towers....yes they are a representation but its actually the museum that is the lasting footprint of the towers. Check out my FB page since we are friends over there and you can see all the pictures I posted in an album of my museum visit. You can see the old columns, supports and a preserved staircase; among many other preserved timepieces of that historic tragic day. Very humbling.
    I must say these parking lot RV spots just blow my mind! Excellent episode Robert, thank you for sharing. Misty and I are planning a trip in our Cessna 182 next summer. We are looking forward to the aerial views and flying the special VFR corridor up the Hudson river a ways.

    The statue of Liberty is nothing more than the Greek god Venus, the bare breasted fertility goddess. The statue for Justice and the statue on top of the Capital building, the War goddess, all the same being Venus in the bible her real name Shinar. She's also the image on Starbucks. Look up original sign for Starbucks. Shocker!

    Thanks for sharing.

    Robert, your video reminded me growing up in metro NYC, lived a short time in Manhattan after arriving from Cuba in late 60's. @24:26 weird white building across street, I performed service call at that building and several firms at original WTC in the 80's. I used to ride my motorcycle to JC RV park/marina. Using a motorcycle is a fast and efficient way to travel in metro NY, specially into Manhattan, parking's easy and free, plus tolls are way less than cars on tunnels/bridges. Safe travels.

    I could never do a trip by myself as you did... The breakdown of your tow vehicle and finding a replacement and then continuing on... New York by yourself... I would have been just overwhelmed... Good job... Great video... 😯

    NJ Turnpike is expensive and so is the NJ Garden State Parkway (GSP) based on number of axles. Robert, your avoidance of the turnpike by going on US route 1 north (not a highway, very slow and congested most of the way in both directions) put you on a small section of the NJ GSP that does not have tolls. Most of the NJ GSP is a toll road also charging more for axles. I-78 is a much faster non toll road especially when compared to the truck route you were on in Jersey City. Bridges and tunnels into NYC are expensive but usually free returning to NJ. I agree going and coming from NY at the point where you were does get stressful because of lane changes and options needing to be made unexpectedly and quickly.
    The Tapenzee is a much less stressful and scenic way to continue north avoiding NYC. Round-trip toll collected southbound; no toll collected on northbound trips on Tapenzee. I love the scenic quiet difference on The Tapenzee.

    You are lucky you did not get pulled over. I don’t think that trailers are allowed on The Garden State Parkway or any Parkways in the Tri-State area.

    • @sterlingmarshel6299
      @sterlingmarshel6299 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually they are allowed as long as you’re under 65 feet you’re thinking of commercial trucks which aren’t allowed

      Trucks can't go on parkways, trailers can.

      I grew up in NJ and never saw a trailer on the GSP. I thought they weren't allowed until I saw the comment from Sterling Marshel. Never knew that. By the way, exit 119 on the GSP (bad joke)

    I was very interested to see Liberty Harbor RV Park as if I visit NYC again it will be when I am renting an RV in the USA. I was last in NYC back in October 2016 and I worked there for some months (for a UK company) back in the early 90s. I confess I preferred NYC in the early 90s because the areas that interested me such as the village were still vibrant with alternative stuff whereas today these places have all been gentrified.

    I was at that exact same park (Liberty Harbor RV park) back in June of 2018. I remember you had to check out by 11 a.m. or they would literally charge you for another day even if you were 10 minutes late checking out. Also, no sewer hookup we had to make a line the next day to dump at the only one station they had (which was a very messy area). On the plus side, it was close to Manhattan and we were able to travel back and forth on the NY Waterway ferries.

    Nice video as always. Something I noticed, was it your photography style or was there a decided lack of graffiti for NYC? Usually it's everywhere.
