      Yes, you can still find the preamp and it’s not really pricey. I didn’t install it, I used the push push as a coil split.

    I stumbled across your video this evening and it looks like you've done an amazing job on your replica! I actually have the very last Todd Krause-built cherry sunburst Sambora to come out of the Fender Custom Shop, which is the iconic Richie guitar with the Floyd Rose and big stars and boost circuitry. It was not cheap, but I was able to hand-select the wood for the body and the star inlay work is absolute perfection. The single coils are the hand-wound Josefina Custom Shop offerings. The humbucker is the traditional Dimarzio PAF. Congrats!

      Thank you. Nice, I’ve wanted a Sambora Cherry Sunburst for years now. The resale prices these days have sky rocketed and are beyond my means. I went with white on this one because the quality of the wood on the body was subpar. Considering doing another in Cherry Sunburst. The body and neck were cheap but worked them in to shape. I have 3 other USA Fender Strats and this one hangs with all of them. I made sure to use too notch electronics and hardware.

      @krimsonguitar  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you Rick! So it’s was pretty tough to find a pickguard for a Floyd body that has the rounded edges around the humbucker. I finally found one from musiclily on eBay. You will have to drill out the hole yourself to add the coil split button. In the original this is actually a boost switch. This is the one I bought. I came from China and took about 3 weeks to arrive but it worked perfectly.

      This is the actual switch kit. I drilled the hole in the pickguard then used jb weld to glue the mounting block on the pickguard. The screws they give you are actually kinda big for the switch I had to drill the holes out a little for it to work.

    Can you recommend a procedure for drilling the locking nut on the back of a guitar neck?

    • @krimsonguitar
      @krimsonguitar  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I'd use the locknut itself as a template for the holes along with a small clamp to hold it in place. Once you get first hole done. Use that hold as a guide for larger hole on the back. Do one at a time so you can use a clamp to keep the lockunut in place for that first one. Once you've completed the first one you can screw the locknut in place and finish the second one without the clamp.

    • @krimsonguitar

      That is a micro tilt. Fender installs them on their American Line. The metal piece assumes all the pressure from the Allen’s screw that is in the neck pocket. It allows you the tilt the neck to the perfect angle without having to shim the neck.

      The neck was purchased from Aliexpress. It was about $45. Since I built two of these we ordered two of them. They both needed considerable work. The first was had horrible fret sprout. Almost like they cut the fret ends and never dressed them. Both necks also seemed like they were never leveled. So I had to level, crown and dress both of them. After the work they both played great. The decal was ordered from Voodoo decals.

      @@krimsonguitar its a complement to you how close this is to the original.... You have a good eye for detail. There's usually something you can pick out on a replica, like a licensed Floyd or incorrect pickup placement in the scratchplate, even seen 9v battery compartments carved into the back, but yours is a great representation, you must be very proud to own it and say you built it

      @@krimsonguitar do you know much about the Japanese Sambora strats? I tried to research them before I bought one a few years ago but there's very little about them on the net. I'd read that Fender America actually wouldn't acknowledge the authenticity of Japanese Samboras at one point, but eventually had to when an original Fender catalogue was found and published showing the 3 Japanese models. Before I bought mine I found a website that catalogued all of Samboras guitars including his personal custom shop guitars and the guitar I was looking at buying was featured on the website with loads of HD pictures... It has many distinctive marks such as lacquer cracking and the serial number checked out so I bought it.... Only thing that made me question the guitar was the body seams slightly bigger than a conventional strat and the back trem cover is routed in so its flush to the body.... Only ever seen backplates surface mounted on strats.... Have you ever seen or played a Japanese Sambora?
