They should add your video to their promotional material. The extra uses are awesome and adding them together to extend the MFT is brilliant. You just made my mind I am buying them very soon.
Also using this for nearly 6 years. Beautiful, reliable , accurate and excellent built quality. I’ve got mine installed in my shop with the extensions but removable and mounted on the custom trolly is fully mobile. German design and quality not easily beaten.
Thank you Ben, I just saw your video and like you I don’t have much room but the two extensions are useful and very practical. Thank you very much for your time for making this great video
Had these myself for over 10 years and was unaware of the option to attach to other Festool stations. Obvious now you have pointed it out and all Festool units are at 900mm from FFL so why didn't I realise this sooner? The one disadvantage though is that the rail has its own "fence" and is not therefore completely flat and in the same plane as the Festool station that it is attached to. No matter, thanks for the insight and I will be making some use of the new piece of knowledge.
That feeling at 7:40, when I didn't even think about using my extension wings to extend my MFT table -_-. An dhere I am almost dropping stuff trying to support it lol.

now that I watch your vid again, I noticed you have you kapex on a shelf. not the rolling cart. if I'm mostly going to use the kapex at home, maybe that's a smarter solution.
Excellent video - thank you for posting! I am probably going to get the cart with extension wings, and I had no idea I could also use the extensions on my Festool table, as well. Also, I WISH my shop was as “small” as yours haha! Take care, and God bless.
Glad it was helpful! The trimming attachments are a game changer in my shop! Love it when a company puts this much deliberate thought and features in their tool sets
Great review Ben! Just hit subscribed. Pretty timely as well I just picked up the Kapex and I really had not thought much about the extension wings. Like a lot of other people I really wanted to build a dedicated station but the reality is I just don’t have the space. But the one thing I didn’t notice or maybe I missed is the stand that you have your Kapex on….does it have to be a specific height in order for the extension wings to work? I’d like to use the Rockler steel stand system to allow me to build something that I can store systainers in. I don’t want the extensions permanently installed. I want the ability to use them on my MFT as well. Really like your stuff glad I hit the subscribe button
Hey thanks for watching, Mikey. In this video th-cam.com/video/chFFRS58mlA/w-d-xo.html you can see how they hook up to the MFT/3, which is the same way they hook up to the kapex, CMS and conturo table.
Hi Ben I am just about to push the button on a Kapex 12O REB and the wings and I will install it like you have on a bench however I have a question relating to the wings. I could not see if your saw was the latest version with the short pull out extensions or the older design. My concern is that they have changed the design of the wings and the base of the saw so the wings can only be attached to the Festool Under base which in my opinion is very unstable. The old style wings could be used without the under base attached directly to the saw (like yours) and could also be attached to an MFT Table which I think adds considerably to the functionality. I hope I can do the same as you I hope you can reply
Hey yodabert, yes they will work! My kapex is the new body style with the pullout wings. If you are ordering online, be sure to use my affiliate links! I’ll get a small kickback from Amazon, no additional cost to you! I appreciate the comment and question!
Really thorough information - well presented. Keep it up. Wish Festool was about 30% lower $$ across the board but really smartly designed. Thanks. New sub.
Glad you found it helpful! Yeah, I think everyone wishes Festool was lower in price! If you haven't been there already, head to the festoolownersgroup.com site, register and check out the classifieds for used festool items. I would say about half of my tools were picked up used, so that could be the 30% you're looking for - I've yet to get burned on buying used festool.
Hi great video, good to here. I saw you got the CNC router table. Its not in your list. I love to have one. Where did you both it? Let me know.. thanks so far. Rob
Nice video, helpful and to the point, especially as I'm considering a Kapex at the moment. Quick video points: 1. Don't use auto-iris (auto-exposure) in bright sunlight - as you moved your arm at the beginning, the camera "auto corrected" unnecessarily. Get an exposure setting at the beginning, and stick with it for the rest of the shot. 2. Check focus in close-ups. You'll find you need to stop-down the lens (a BIGGER 1/f number) to get more in focus than with a wide - it's worth the effort, and better to use manual focus, as it won't then jump out, for example during a pan. Usually focus on the nearer bit of whatever the subject is in the close-up, or slightly nearer than middle-distance. Stills camera zoom lenses aren't ideal for this, as camera makers tend to rely on autofocus to workaround optical issues, and videographers can't. But we're stuck with them, usually. Pretty well done, anyway!
Kapex is a great saw!! Appreciate the camera insights! A lot of the points you brought up I've corrected in videos after this one (auto-exposure, man focus, etc). I just ordered my key, fill and backlights yesterday and should be here soon. Lighting is so crappy in my basement, I have to wait for sunny days to film as it is the primary light source (I have diffuse paint on my window, so it helps scatter a bit) It's a work in progress and I'm still learning more about video production. Thanks for the tips and keep em coming!! I'm always looking for ways to improve. Seems like you're in some type of production work - what do you do?
Great video very informative thanks. You have Gaines a sub. Im going to invest in some of these. One point though, you do NOT have a small workshop. 😂🙈
Looks can be deceiving. Granted if one tried, you could bang them up well as they are made from aluminum. However I could stand on them and they won’t budge or flex under the weight.
Cost was the first negative I covered in my other video th-cam.com/video/gnN7iW99rdU/w-d-xo.html!!! $$$ So so much, however it works for me and my needs. Glad you found some kit that meets your needs as well. Thanks for taking the time to watch and drop a comment!
Can you buy extension wings for the extension wings? 2.4m either side of the blade is an absolute waste of time. You need 3.6m either side of the blade minimum.
I think the amount of length needed is completely subjective, my friend. A hobbyist that builds custom furniture likely has no need for trimming attachments that are 3.6m on either side of the blade - trim and finish carpenters, likely so. What kind of work do you do?
@@BenMarshallDesigns Yea true, but 90% of any length of timber Is 5.4m long. So you square one end off to start with and go from there. But that means you need that 5.4m lengths supported. yeah they can get in the way, especially if your sheet good is wider than the MFT, still pretty cool they can be used on multiple tables
Wow, I did not know you could use these on anything other than the Kapex UG stand.
Nice and detailed video.
Thanks! Festool was wise to share a lot of the same systems across platforms
