||চণ্ডালিকা|Chandalika - a Story of Anti-Casteism|Rabindra Jayanti Special|Dance Ambition Presents||

Predating Ambedkar's Nava Buddhism.... Tagore uses Buddha's message of anti-casteism..... the Dalit girl Prakriti falls in love with the Buddhist monk Ananda... and urges her mother Maya to use her Tantric powers to make him desire her... the play is infinitely nuanced and complex... Tagore is also offering a critique of the Tantric practices that had seeped within Buddhism and eventually led to its disappearance from mainland India... Tagore seems to advocate a "purer" Theravada mode, one that is far closer to Siddhartha Gautama's original vision... and this predates Ambedhar and the Dalit Buddhist movement.... so so powerful!
