"Millions of our years! In minutes disappears!" This song plunges you into the deepest depths of despair, yet simultaneously instills a sense that you can personally move mountains. Such a perfect choice to lead off the Justice album and the 1989 tour. I thought the arena was going to explode.

Bring it down 7-8dB" and the rest is history. I think Jason said the bass was his fault in order to be nice and not throw Lars under the bus. And Jason's bass on Garage Days a year prior is very much audible, so it's not like it's the fault of his actual bass either.

@Eternal Rambler i read as well Jason felt partly to blame. Due to playing the same frequency as James but. Loads of bassists did this in metal. I dont think he needs to carry any of the guilt for his bass being muted. His playing was exceptional on this record u can hear he was playing his soul out here probably trying to prove himself only for his efforts to be crushed. Ill only listen to bass enhanced songs off this album now. Justice for Jason..

Best song on ...And Justice For All, in my opinion. One is a close 2nd. Oh and here are the lyrics:
    Blackened is the end
    Winter it will send
    Throwing all you see
    Into obscurity
    Death of Mother Earth
    Never a rebirth
    Evolution's end
    Never will it mend
    Never
    Fire
To begin whipping dance of the dead
    Blackened is the end
To begin whipping dance of the dead
    Color our world blackened
    Blistering of earth
    Terminate its worth
    Deadly nicotine
    Kills what might have been
    Callous frigid chill
    Nothing left to kill
    Never seen before
    Breathing nevermore
    Never
    Fire
To begin whipping dance of the dead
    Blackened is the end
To begin whipping dance of the dead
    Color our world blackened

    Blackened
    Opposition...contradiction...premonition...compromise
    Agitation...violation...mutilation...planet dies
    Darkest color
    Blistered earth
    True death of life
    Termination...expiration...cancellation...human race
    Expectation...liberation...population...lay to waste
    See our mother
    Put to death
    See our mother die
    Smoldering decay
    Take her breath away
    Millions of our years
    In minutes disappears
    Darkening in vain
    Decadence remains
    All is said and done
    Never is the sun
    Never
    Fire
To begin whipping dance of the dead
    Blackened is the end
To begin whipping dance of the dead
    Fire
    Is the outcome of hypocrisy
    Darkest potency
    In the exit of humanity
    Color our world blackened

I really like Blackened, but AJFA has so many GOD tier songs, its insane! If I were to put a rating list it would probably go something like this:
      Blackened (amazing thrash masterpiece)
Dyers Eve (ANOTHER incredible thrash masterpiece)
Frayed Ends of Sanity (one of the best prog metal songs ever written honestly)
To Live is To Die (their best instrumental, its just amazing)
One (spectacular ballad, mindblowing as fuck!)
And Justice for All (compliation of a ton of absolute killer)
Eye of The Beholder (very unusual structure, very different from everything else, an amazinf song for sure)
Shortest Straw (yet ANOTHER awesome thrash masterpiece)

Stereo snare, this time...? Yes! Everything sounds balanced and full. I wasn't sure how I felt about the vocals, at first, but they make everything sound spacious and wide--precisely what the original recording lacked; it was flat as a tire, this is rich and clear. The harmonies soar, that bass purrs and supports the rhythm, nothing drowns the other out. It all builds with clarity.
    Love it. :)

    • @zackhitz

Same feelings here! The vocals bugged me a little at first because they sounded like they had reverb or could've been faded slightly at the end so the release wasn't as "long"... but after a few listens it fills in that space nicely where it would've otherwise been filled with, like, Lar's snares or cymbals or some shit haha.

Dude, you are a God among men. You have fixed what has plagued And Justice For All for 30 plus years. I have always felt that it’s was the best Metallica album musically and lyrically. But it was rendered nearly impossible to listen to because of the way it was mixed. The non existent bass guitar, the incredibly overpowered bass drum, the manufactured rhythm guitar, and that horrendous “humming” bass resonance that would distort even the highest end sound systems. I don’t know what kind on crack Metallica was on when they originally produced this album. I don’t know how they could have listened to it on play back and thought that was the best they could do. It’s just soooooo overproduced. I’ve always thought that it would be far and away the best Metallica album if it just sounded like Garage Days Re-revisited. You have fixed pretty much everything wrong with it. Your version is 1000 times better than the original. Thank you, thank you, thank you for this. I’ve listened to your efforts on And Justice for All, Blackened, and Harvester or Sorrow. Please tell me there’s more you’ve done with this album. This is just amazing stuff.

You thought the original kick was overpowering? I thought it was too weak and clicky. And the snare/tom combo fared no better in the original mix. Lyrically and musically, it was a shade above MASTER, but in terms of production quality, this sits below ST. ANGER, and that thing has a SHITTY production. But this...this feels much more lively, more PRESENT.

Ahdy's obra maestra of remastering tipping the scales to make Blackened Metallica's obra maestra. I was on the fence as to what Metallica's best song is...hearing all of the instruments at their maximum potential here tips me over to Blackened. So much to like: the goosebump-provoking intro, Jason's main riff, the breakdown and the crushing bulldozer slow riff in the middle, the bridge that evokes the chorus and blasts the 2nd half of the solo into warp drive, Lars' "happy accident" time change after the solo, Hetfield's vocals..."DAR-KEST PO-TEN CE-E-EEE!" This is peak Ahdy and peak Metallica. (No disrespect to Cliff...he definitely influenced their songwriting here.) 🔥🔥🔥
