I'm Chinese and I do find it very hard to differentiate between who's who amongst white or black people, definitely a lot easier for me to differentiate between people who are Vietnamese, Chinese, Japanese, Korean etc.
True. I don't see how Asians can't be told apart. Asians have the most diverse population because we can either be super chubby, or Skeleton like. Extremely dark skin, tan skin, milky white skin, etc. Plus, our hair can be silky or very curly. (Indians usually have curliest hair.) But white people all have light skin, unless they stay in the sun long enough. And hair is always between curly and silky, and it's usually blonde or light brown. Black people all have dark skin and black hair. 😒 Damn, and we're the ones with small eyes.
Black people doesnt only have dark skin and black hair . Where i am from there are black people with natural brown hair,black hair,a kinda of gingery hair etc. and skin colour vary but they do not have white skin tone.

We have Asians with a whole spectrum of skin colours ranging from pale to dark, people with single eyelids, hidden double and double eyelids, tall nose bridges and flat nose bridges, long, oval faces and wide flat faces etc.; the diversity of cranial shapes in Asia is just incredible. In Europe everyone pretty much has the same tall nose bridge, pale skin, double eyelid, deep set eyes look. The only difference between Italians & Spanish is probably just language and culture. Even then, the Italian language and Spanish language are both closely related to one another (Romance languages). In Asia on the other hand... Currently I am only able to tell apart Eastern Europeans (eg Russians) from other Europeans because they do look slightly more distinct, in a way that I cannot pinpoint either.

Lighting, makeup, hairstyle, and facial features are what's really fucking with your head - many, many of those pictures had people who had makeup on or were from completely different angles to change what sort of person they looked like. It's a real life thing too: Actors, teachers, etcetra, put on lots of makeup - go home, take off, go shopping, nobody recognizes them. This is a bad test.

When it's someone you hardly know, the color of their hair, eyes, and/or skin and hair texture or style are the best ways to tell who is who. I think that's why people with the same coloring, hair texture, or even similar features can be hard to tell apart as strangers.

This is completely unfair, since I couldn't tell some of these apart either. Besides, they've picked celebrities, mostly actors/actresses, who are paid to look like different people. This makes it nearly impossible. A friend of mine from Japan returned to Japan after a year in the US. When asked what struck her about returning home was that "everyone in Japan looks alike and even dresses alike"! Just a cute anecdote. Love to all.

I am a white American, I am familiar with many of these pop icons and I had to rewind to check quite few times to make sure they were wrong because I thought a few of them were correct! This was not a fair test, they chose some very difficult photos that many Americans not completely obsessed with pop culture would also get wrong. I knew at least one if not all actors in each set and still had to pause and study some of the photos. I would like to see them present the same test to Americans though maybe add a time limit, like 15 seconds to group the pictures and see how many get it wrong.
Not much digging has to be done, they took celebrity lookalikes to do this. Plus no one looks the same in any race I don't see how people have trouble telling people apart.

I'm Chinese and I do find it very hard to differentiate between who's who amongst white or black people, definitely a lot easier for me to differentiate between people who are Vietnamese, Chinese, Japanese, Korean etc.
True. I don't see how Asians can't be told apart. Asians have the most diverse population because we can either be super chubby, or Skeleton like. Extremely dark skin, tan skin, milky white skin, etc. Plus, our hair can be silky or very curly. (Indians usually have curliest hair.) But white people all have light skin, unless they stay in the sun long enough. And hair is always between curly and silky, and it's usually blonde or light brown. Black people all have dark skin and black hair. 😒 Damn, and we're the ones with small eyes.

Yes if anything Asians are so much more diverse than people of European descent. We have Asians with a whole spectrum of skin colours ranging from pale to dark, people with single eyelids, hidden double and double eyelids, tall nose bridges and flat nose bridges, long, oval faces and wide flat faces etc.; the diversity of cranial shapes in Asia is just incredible. In Europe everyone pretty much has the same tall nose bridge, pale skin, double eyelid, deep set eyes look. The only difference between Italians & Spanish is probably just language and culture. Even then, the Italian language and Spanish language are both closely related to one another (Romance languages). In Asia on the other hand...
Currently I am only able to tell apart Eastern Europeans (eg Russians) from other Europeans because they do look slightly more distinct, in a way that I cannot pinpoint either.

When it's someone you hardly know, the color of their hair, eyes, and/or skin and hair texture or style are the best ways to tell who is who. I think that's why people with the same coloring, hair texture, or even similar features can be hard to tell apart as strangers.

I am a white American, I am familiar with many of these pop icons and I had to rewind to check quite few times to make sure they were wrong because I thought a few of them were correct! This was not a fair test, they chose some very difficult photos that many Americans not completely obsessed with pop culture would also get wrong. I knew at least one if not all actors in each set and still had to pause and study some of the photos. I would like to see them present the same test to Americans though maybe add a time limit, like 15 seconds to group the pictures and see how many get it wrong.

+umarth Yeah, I thought the same thing. At least, Katy Perry and Zooey Deschanel, and Keira Knightley and Natalie Portman have been noted to be Hollywood Dopplegangers. I always considered Amber Heard to be similar to Scarlet Johanssen too, but man, Jodie Foster threw everyone for a loop. lol.

To be fair, europeans have different skin, hair and eye shades to Koreans, who have mainly light skin, naturally black hair and dark eyes. Though this challenge was quite hard.
They chose known look alikes, so yea not a fair test at all.

On the contrary, that should give you the privilege to tell Asians AND Westerners apart! I'm half Arabian half European. So I can tell them apart.. I can also tell Koreans apart from Japanese, Chinese, and Philippines apart.. Also identical Asian twins. It just needs getting used to. The more you see, the easier it becomes.

I used to do photography, this is an unfair test, you have different lighting conditions, different cameras, the person may have aged. this is super unscientific
Zooey Deschanel and Katy Perry is damn near impossible for even white folks, if you can't see the boobs or a crazy outfit they are damn near identical. And Keira Knightley actually played Natalie Portman's decoy double in Star Wars and filled in for many of her shots. Some of these would be hard even for people of the same race and familiar with the actors.
so true, if they wanted a better experiment they should have gone with similar looks not almost identical, eg jb and miley. Zoe and Katie I have no clue most of the time.
I'm a white American and I would've failed at all of these. These people actually do look way too much alike -- unless you're diehard fans of any of them this is pretty tough. I'd like to see another one that's not this hard.
Honestly every time I’m watching anything including Asian actors, anyone who peeks at my screen says “they all look the same” and I keep fighting with
“THEY JUST LOOK THE SAME TO YOU BECAUSE YOURE NOT USED TO THEIR FEATURES”
