Beautiful sing by Ed Bruce. One of his best. Why can't today's country music be like it was way back in the good ol' days? Listen up, Nashville! This is how it's done!
Almost unknown, actually. If Willie hadn't recorded "Mamas Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up To Be Cowboys" Ed would probably still be in the shadows. There's almost no room at all for him, VanZandt, Guy Clark and the rest these days.
Ed Bruce is one of those laid-back and underrated traditional-style of country singer who has that uncommon ability to reach out and tug at your heartstrings. Upon close appraisal one can observe that he also has great respect for the lyrics and the writer's input. It's all about transcending simply the words and music to be something truly special. So much so that if you listen to Ed and like him you find yourself constantly changing his favorite song rendition to the last one you heard! An exaggeration you ? Maybe so, but not by very much it ain't.Listenin' to olde Ed caress a tune to delivery is like re-listening to the late, great Ray Price hit "Danny Boy" out of the park and out of mortal sight. I can't pay him a higher complement than that!
Fabulous song from an iconic singer/songwriter! Vale, Rest in Peace and thanks for all your timeless songs and the memories of yesterday's country music !
thank you devon your breeder loves you my husband glad i never lost you through your divorce our first datewas goood you look goood but please wear pink
Let's not forget the musicians who never get the credit they deserve on beautiful songs such as this one. Buddy Spicher on fiddle and Sonny Garrish on pedal steel helped make this song the hit it was in my humble opinion.
@pickerdownsouth, thanks for commenting and including the information. There was a comment left here about 5 years ago by a user named MrAlbeck22 where he too mentioned this, but I see his account has been deleted (and his post). I will add your information to the video notes. Thanks again.
I love this lyrics. I think it describes loves and passion in a simple but very direct and rightfull way. Ed Bruce was a great singer. And the composers were great.
my favorite EB song....reminds me of a dance floor I once shared with a beautiful lady.....looking into each others eyes.....the band was secondary..we barely noticed they were there...wow!
Thanks for the comment jekiwe. This is truly once of the great C&W songs, not only by EB, but by anyone. It is a mystery why this version is not available for download. The audio in this video was taken from an old cassette. So the sound quality isn't that great. I just wish it would be released on CD or MP3. Thanks again for the comment.
MTGirl, thank you for leaving a comment. And I agree... one of the best country songs ever. One can only guess why this one did not make it to MP3 download or even CD. Lost master recording? Legal issues? I wish someone close to Mr. Bruce would leave a comment and tell us what happened. Thanks again.
@distanthearted -- I believe it, and thank you for taking time to leave a comment. Sounds like you have a wonderful grandfather, family and a great family friend. Best regards distanthearted. :)
This is great - thanks for adding some class to TH-cam. This song surfaced about the time Alabama started its incredible run. Country was country when Ed Bruce recorded this - not sure what country is today. How about finding Vern Gosdin's Dream of Me?
Loved this song beautiful voice and singer could listen to him forever
Nice Job I've liked Ed Bruce forever, This when Country music really was Country...
Love this "old school" country. These new kids that call themselves singers do not have a clue as to what music supposed to sound like!
Absolutely👍
The people who gave this a thumbs down don't have a clue what good music is--I love his songs!!

Almost unknown, actually. If Willie hadn't recorded "Mamas Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up To Be Cowboys" Ed would probably still be in the shadows. There's almost no room at all for him, VanZandt, Guy Clark and the rest these days.
