One of the first female deejay was a woman named Fay Bennett who’s career started out very early 70s as a dj I think she was a dancer in them times too. Her Dad is Saxophonist Val Bennett RIP.
Alton Ellis sister called Hortense Ellis wasn’t really a dj but had made a few dj tracks for Bunny Lee under the name Queen Tiny and they were good tracks still, you wouldn’t believe ah Alton Ellis sister that!
Muma Liza then come in on Sound system before Sister Nancy but they both recorded their first tracks in the same year 1980 & Liza is Sister Nancy Teacher.. Lady G well done, we give you the props you are a hardcore dj! I don’t know bout Lady Saw who just come and nasty up the ting as a woman deejay but I suppose she also revolutionised the scene even though Fay Bennett was recording slack tracks way before Lady Saw was about so people need to go do their research and I hope someone do some search into Ms Bennett even though I heard she pass away.
