scottpardee6303, you must have had a huge house, because a reasonable minimum number of orchestra players on this piece is substantial. Few people can have orchestras fit into their houses. Perhaps your father's group was a smaller ensemble and was playing a stripped down arrangement?
The same occurred in my case. I played this piece as an alto saxophonist and 13 years old in a paramilitary school band. It was a marvelous experience that I cherish in my most loved memories.
