      I agree. I found the graphics and speed to be very helpful, and I have to say that the still images of Dr Nic are perfect. To me, they added a human touch to the topic without it being a video that risked shifting the focus to her. Super clever and well thought out, I think!

    So, I love math, it was my favorite subject in lower grade school and college. I have recently decided to become a data scientist starting with learning database administration. While examining the career path, I saw that I had to learn statistics, okay no big deal. I am half way through my semester and we started studying statistical inference. My professor, God bless him, is not too good at explaining topics. I have resorted to not attending the class and just read the book. However, the book is filled with unnecessary words. I found this video on the whole chapter and it makes so much sense in just about 7 mins.
    Thank you so much!

  • @M12345-i
    @M12345-i 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Great video! But your example of New Zealand confuses me. Inferential statistics is about making inferences about the POPULATION from a SAMPLE, but in the example of New Zealand's opinion of the economy, you have what the POPULATION think, i.e. 40% think the economy is failing, and from this you take a sample of the overall population and try to infer how likely it is that 50% or more will think the economy is failing - meaning that you're making inferences about the sample based on data from the population?!

    • @DrNic
      @DrNic  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You are correct. This is a theoretical illustration to show how we know what are likely results. So if the population proportion is 50% then the chance of getting a given proportion is the p-value. If the given proportion has a zero probability, then we can see that our initial assumption was wrong.

I chose to ignore that part and the video was very informative, I understand the 3 precepts and all, only that part was not so clear and helpful.

    • @DrNic
      @DrNic  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Flavia
      Thanks for the feedback. Quite often with statistical concepts you need to go back over them a few times. Statistical inference is far from intuitive, so if you understood everything else with one viewing, you and I are doing pretty well.
