- We're here in Quartzsite but what do you do while in the desert boondocking? We find some great items to make our RV life much easier and better. More solar production too.
We dump, we fill, we bike and we buy anniversary gifts...Mine is better than Sondra's. Fun time at the Big Tent and we're on the hunt! Can we find the one item?
We are not Snow Birds but we do like nice warm weather and heading west is the best. We are going to do this trip a little differently by staying at a few different locations.
Quartzsite is all about boondocking in the desert and a great place for an RV to winter.

RV Camping
We like to "Switch it Up" between resorts and campgrounds and boondocking is always an option.
We draw inspiration from Keep Your Daydream KYD, Less Junk More Journey, Finding Our Someday and Changing Lanes. We normally travel in an HDT similar to TH-cam channels Suite Travels and Watts on Wheels. I also get some ideas from the editing style of Happily Ever Hanks (Happilyeverhanks) #thankshanks and believe it or not, I actually learned something from MRBeast Mr. Beast video's as well.
Our journey is the destination. We want to share in our experiences in our discovery of What's Next.

Our Class C is built by Thor Motorcoach on a Ford F550 chassis. It's a production build Magnitude model XG32. We tow our red Jeep Wrangler Sahara behind it. We've made some modifications to it so that we can boondock comfortably. Lithium batteries, Victron 3000w multi-plus inverter, dual alternators charge while traveling and mods to the water system greatly enhance it's boondocking capabilities.
Our extreme completely custom 5th wheel is built on a semi-trailer chassis with air suspension and air brakes. Completely loaded it weighs 42,000 lbs rolling down the highway. And we do roll down the highway nearly every week. You see, we believe that if your home has wheels they should be used.
Vehicles:
2016 Volvo VNL780 "Voyager"
2016 Smart fortwo "Pathfinder"
2019 SpaceCraft Custom built semi-trailer 5th wheel "Orion"
2023 Thor Magnitude XG32 Class C "Curiosity"
2017 Jeep Wrangler Sahara "Artemis"
Power system:
3250 watts of solar with Panasonic panels
30.1 KWH of Lithium batteries
2- 4K watt Magnum Inverters deliver power as if we are on shore power
2- 4K watt 240v Cotek Inverters deliver additional power for our LG Mini split HVAC and stove
Coachnet is our roadside assistance company we use but hopefully we don't use them too often. LOL
We are not sponsored by Whataburger but I do enjoy them anytime I can get my hands on one. They used to be just out of Texas but they have expanded.

You should call your drone "Ingenuity" after the Mars rover helicopter. Kinda fits with Voyager, Discovery and Orion.

Great name! Hope they take your suggestion.
Popped on to say the same. Perfect name!
Yep, that’s what I thought of too! Plus her nickname is Ginny!
Great suggestion! We love that name!
OMG what an awsome video, when i watch your vids, i feel like I'm on vacation right with you! You two are awsome! 😊
Wow! Thank you so very much.
Those Carassonne games 42:39 are fun games to play with family if you want a good game. When we passed through Quartzsite last year, we did stop at the game store. When I watched RVerTV's video the solar awning would be something I would invest in. It would be something I would consider for our own travel trailer.
I couldn't believe how many games! The awning is a great way for more solar but it does sag a little in the middle due to weight. But a great 💡
Scout was the smallest launch vehicle and it's purpose was "scouting the frontiers of space environment and paving the way" - a perfect name for your smallest vehicle
Thanks for the suggestion, Diana. It makes sense.
Love your videos!
Glad you like them! Thanks for watching
What a sweet look Sondra gave you , David while using the tweezers! I think you did good!!😊 will never get to Quartzite, so thanks for sharing your video! The drone work is amazing! Loved when you landed it on the car! Good job!! Y’all work well together!!❤❤❤
Stay safe out there on the road!! Looking forward to seeing Yuma!! God Bless!!
Thanks, Marian. She was very pleased with the gift. She'd been wanting a nice pair for awhile. 😆 Didn't expect the drone to bounce so much! 😆
Your videos are always entertaining. It amazes me that someone(me) who has no interest in RVing or camping enjoys your content so much. Among other things, I love the interaction between the two of you, the informative nature of things and the scenery. As always, thanks for taking us along. Happy Anniversary. Looking forward to seeing Yuma and your adventures there. Until next Thursday .. drive carefully and take care of each other.
I appreciate that, Christy! I take that as a HUGE compliment. Glad you're along on the journey. Thank you and we'll see you next week!
Great video 👍Thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it.thanks
Good on you for helping people when asked, for those who need it and ask for it.
Thank you. 😃
Hi guy's.🙋♀️🙋♂️..Jeanne and I are in our usual place watching your video..🛌...😂...we went to the Tampa show and now we feel like we have been to the big tent show...😂..we love quartzite tent ....they have everything...true toppers are a good investment...we are looking into them ourselves.🤗..happy anniversary.🥳..keep at it...you might catch up to us.🥰...thanks for the video...stay safe...J&A2ofus
Aloha from AZ. Hope you're enjoying nice "winter" weather... in Florida! Glad you guys were comfy for this video! We'll keep trying to catch up to you! 😆 Safe travels wherever the road takes you. See you! Thanks for watching the channel.
Super big 😊😊❤
But very stable. Wind is no problem! 😆 Thank you for watching
It’s just ridiculous 😂😂😂
We have RVed for 40+ years. Traded 5th wheel two years ago & got a residential frig. Trouble first three trips with doors opening. What a mess. Tension curtain rods really helped on travel days. Also packing tape. Miss the dual service rv frig with door locks.
There are times, Kathie, when we miss the RV fridge but Sondra loves the storage in the residential one. 😊 Thanks
Love those tension rods. Thanks Walmart.
Stickers..."precious" , I feel it!
😆 Sondra loves a good selection of stickers! Is that weird?!? 😆 🤣
After you have your toppers added please give us a review on how well the work to clean off the debris that can load up on the slides.
We will. It will be part of a video. Thanks
A very cute video! 😂 thank You, keep them coming👍
Thank you! Will do!
Thank you for taking the time to teach me about Volvo trucks. Made appointment for next week. So looking forward to the upgrade! Safe travels and God Bless!
Glad to help and hope it goes smoothly.
Very cool video, as always! Really enjoy following your travels. Quartzsite is definitely on my bucket list! Take care, and enjoy.
Thank you for watching the channel. We're excited to be able to share our experiences with everyone and to give back to the RV community. Glad you're along with us on the journey. Q is cool...lots of people...but such a neat atmosphere.
Thanks for taking me back to the Q. Very good job. Keep up the good work.
Any time! Thanks for watching the channel. 😁
What a way to start your day
Sweet! Thanks 😄
I'm seriously considering spending a week out there next year, particularly for the ham radio get together, Quartzfest, which is held at the same time.
I think you'd enjoy it. I like the name! My brother enjoyed being a ham operator for many years. He spoke to people from all over the world.
We are too. Husband is a Ham 73’s!
my mind is Blown!
Thanks for watching the channel. 😁
Looking at the rocks reminds me on “The Long Long Trailer” which is one of my favorite movies. 😃
😆 that's what I was thinking when she stopped to look.
That is the biggest carpark I have seen.
It's huge and in the desert! Lots of fun.
omg 'radio shack'!
Maybe... not many out there.
It was great to see you scrapbooking im into stickers and your journaling ideas and im getting me some twizzors their great thats to see you scrapbook ing fun and him backing you with your fun 😊😊😊😊😊
Oh, Terry, Sondra loves her Journaling and scrapbooking and stickers and ephemra. I just stay out of the way! 😆 thanks for watching the channel. 😁
you living 'fancy'!! and I love it!
We enjoy it! Thank you 😊
David you are lots & lots of patience with everything esp with sondra
That is the truth... well, most of the time...I have my days... thank you.
I get that look myself when my wife doesn’t believe I have no money on me. Priceless.
😆... that must be a wifey thing... it's in their DNA!
Hi from Canada .Great video.Amazing stuff in the Big Tent .
Glad you enjoyed it! Lots of stuff you don't need but want to get in the Big Tent!
You guy's are so Cool!! Getting caught up on all your video's and really appreciate all the work you do in making all this content 😅. Have lots of questions but the one today is how does the drone follow you?? Probably a dumb question because I'm so drone inefficient 😂😂. Stay safe !! and keep the great content coming.
It's a Mini4 Pro and it has "active track" which can target a person or vehicle to follow... or it's "movie magic"... you choose! 😆 🤣
Nice job guys....god bless😊
Thank you so much
Great video, guys. Love the music you picked on this one.
Thanks so much! Glad you enjoyed it.
love you uz! better you than me! I could never!
That's us. Thanks for watching the channel. 😁
As usual an excellent video from my favorite couple. It's good to see people finally getting to enjoy the fruits of their labor, which I'm also doing after fifty years of working. Life is good and thank you guys for not getting tired of me tagging along. As you know the wife won't do the RV thing so I have to hang with you. Thanks again. Travel safe. Ps: I also admire the fact that you can clearly afford things but you're not wasteful, you watch your pennies. It took me thirty years to learn that.😅
Glad you enjoyed it, Joe. We try to be sensible in how we live but we don't want to "do without" of we don't have to do we're still conscious of our pennies. Enjoy your time and buckle up. We're heading down the road.
I am not sure but it seems that if you email or talk to the office there at Quartz Site they should be able to look up past vendors, just a thought in regards to that Balsamic Glaze you were looking for.
Great idea, Kim. We'll look into that. Thanks ❤️
So glad I found the 2nd part of this adventure. I would love to know about you last purchase of the awning attachments to secure your awning? I would have loved shopping in the desert under that big white tent .
Thanks, Jodie. Excited to have you along on the journey. This video will show you what we did with those awning attachments. th-cam.com/video/X8n-D0SupC0/w-d-xo.html
I seen this for the slide-out topper, I meant the bag you carried on your shoulder for your patio awning?
@jodiesebek2440 aahhh... that will be in a few weeks. But I've used them and they work good.
What fun that was
Thank you. Lots of fun.
crazy! liken to 50 first dates!
😆 good movie. Thanks
interesting...comfort food!
We like it. 👍
I have the True Toppers. I had them installed 1/9/24 at the Coburg, Oregon location. It’s wonderful and I have seen other people even with snow on and pushing it off. It’s so great and the people couldn’t have been nicer.
Great to hear, Cindy. We're going to Coburg to have them installed. Excited to get it done. Should solve some issues we're starting to experience with our slides.
@@bigtruckbigtravels they are wonderful people. The guys are so nice and Heidi that works in the office. The weather was bad when I was there and they actually moved me inside a day early so I weathered the storm inside their building when you go tell him hi from Cindy in Florence.
Your solar lift angle is close at 45 degrees. The precise angle for optimal solar production in Quartzsite in January is 49 degrees from horizontal (41 degrees from vertical). I have a side mounted array that I can lift from 90 degrees from horizontal to about 25 degrees from horizontal. I can't quite lift it to horizontal, but in the peak of summer it's producing more than enough anyway, so it's more important to me to optimize it for winter, when the production is at a minimum. I'm not far off though as the lowest optimal angle in Q is in June at 20 degrees, so it's only 5 degrees off in a worst-case scenario there. Unfortunately, our rooftop array is fixed, as it's too hard for me to get up there to lift them. Whereas we easily lift and lower our side array standing safely on the ground. Of course, pointing your rig due west, so your panels face due south is important for solar harvesting too - though with the size of your array I'm sure you can be a little off and fill your batteries daily, especially in sunny Q.
Sounds like a nice solar system built for Quartzsite winters. We're looking at improving our system to enhance efficiency.
You guys are so awesome RVng professionals for sure. My wife is obsessed with the Coke machine plz give her a update she is very co concerned that ther le may be issues with it.
Yes I think it is awesome ,And i was hoping it didn't fall on the floor like the food lol. Would love to see it work in a video 😊. Watching y'all's adventures has convinced us to get another rv
It's a commercial grade soda fountain. The two main issues are (1) the chiller uses a LOT of power and is noisy and (2) the carbonator water tank is not used to a moving environment and the water level solenoid gets replaced every few years. Otherwise, pull the handle and soda pours out!
😆 Sondra would have freaked out if it had fallen on the floor! We'll work it into a video....Sondra may want to do several "cup filling" takes...🤔😉😆😁
@@bigtruckbigtravelsbaffles in the tank will help with the going down the road water sloshing issue
@bigtruckbigtravels Yasss but only in a whataburger cup. We live by disney world and the closet whataburger is 2 hrs away...😢😢😢
Great interesting vlog!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you. 😃
Name your drone "Hubble" after the Hubble telescope. It flies around and take pictures. lol.. Glad you're looking at actuators for your solar panels, my wife won't let me on the roof because she is afraid of me falling. In truth I'm too old to be messing around up there. If you fell it would ruin your day!! Thanks for sharing your journey.
Great suggestion, Bill. A fall would definitely ruin a good day! One of these days, I'll be too old to get up there...not yet but it's coming! 😂🤣😊Thanks for watching.
the #1 sustainable foods
True. Thanks
omg perfect for mussels'!
Hmmm... not crazy about them. But you're right.
Need a couple of plastic milk crates to set the tanks in to transport.
I'll have to check to see if they'll fit. They are a little fatter than a 20 lbs propane tank. Great idea. Thanks for the comment. 😃
Happy anniversary
Thanks, Matt. It was a great 35th.
Don't cry over spilled coleslaw/sour cream 😱😭 I think you guys are pretty good at rolling with the punches (plenty of experience I'm guessing). Great boon docking video! I learned about composite propane tanks today. When I had my smart 4two, I'd let my three sons - before the oldest had his license - drive our development's one mile long private road to where there is a small market at the end. They'd put the youngest on the back shelf... The macerator pump is a necessity! I wouldn't have an RV without one. I'd name the drone "Discovery" since scouting is part of its mission. Or "Overwatch" if you wanted a military intelligence type name. Thanks for taking us along 👊
Nice names. Thanks. Appreciate your comments. That's a neat experience your children had with you.
plant your seed by the Joushua tree!
Hmmm...gotta watch the thorns... 😆
Can you tell us what Drone you are using? I also like the Ingenuity name that everyone is coming up with.
We love that name! It's a DJI Mini4 Pro.
We are from Oregon and we had the true toppers installed on our class A motor home last year. The Eugene folks were great. We are so glad we added them. Spending time on the Oregon Coast the wind ate up the original toppers.
That is awesome! We're excited. Thanks for watching the channel. 😁
yea! for goofy!
Hooray! And Mickey too! 😆
can tell the moisture in the ground
Yes. Thanks for watching the channel.
I'd be interested to know how much energy (KWh) your panels generate (per KW) while you are there. Trying to plan ahead... good job on tilting them up at a more optimum angle.
This time of year we got about 14 KW
@@bigtruckbigtravels 14 KWh per day ? How many KW of solar is installed on the roof ?
@SomeTechGuy666 per day, our best day was 15 KW but 14 was most days. We have 3.25 KW on the roof with tiltable panels.
@@bigtruckbigtravels 14KWh is a decent amount of generation per day. Over 4 hours of full output. Not bad for winter.
@SomeTechGuy666 we're pretty happy with it. In summer, we max at 25 KW harvested but we know we could get more since our solar charge controller maxs out at 100.4 amps.
So "what" was your anniversary present???
That place is really a neat place!
Well, Pat, I got the True Toppers, awning supports and maybe something for our solar panels...Sondra got squeezy tweezers...that's fair, right?!? 😂🤣🤔😯😎
I think Sondra needs a little "bigger" gift! 😂
Look forward to your travels each week.❤
What type of drone do you have
It's a DJI Mini4 Pro.
How many gallons is the temp black tank
33 gallons under the bed and another 18 gallon tank that I can connect and strap down on top of the bed. Going to try and modify a 60 gallon tank for a more permanent solution under the hitch.
REMEMBER to store items like paper towels, toilet paper etc light litems up high and all the heavy items down low. i personal hate quartsite, but for the show and some items you can find there to have it ok, but i hate quartsite,az because its a wind damaging place , dusty, dirty, really no shade to speak of. if you chose to go there , i recommended a large tarp to protect your trailer and rig, and watch out for TWEAKERS IN THE DESERT LOOKING TO STEAL SOMETHING FROM YOU? they are there ???
Thanks. We lock our bikes and it helps to be around friends so everyone looks out for others. We like the area but it is unique.
Do you have a bracelet or fob that allows an auto follow?
😆 no. I didn't know that was possible. Is it TH-cam based or location? 😊 Thanks
@bigtruckbigtravels the last I had paid attention to the tech it was an upstart that went belly up. They had a bracelet the drone would follow. We were just trying to figure out how you were both riding bikes and it was flying.
@zeppo4169 oh, ok...a drone question... 😆 🤣 it's all part of the "movie magic experience"... you're welcome. 😉😇😎
@@bigtruckbigtravels yes. Lol. I now realize that I left amplifying information out of my original post.

Thanks so much! Great catching up at the show.
We were in Costco today and they have a Nonna Pia's Balsamic glaze there, but it is from British Colombia.
Thanks, Larry. It may be good but not "the one". The hunt continues...
How about Sputnik for your drone?
Nice history... but we'll stick with an American name. Thank you. 😃
Lots of you tube videos to make your own balsamic glaze. Your new opening theme song was awesome. Your Quartsite excursion was one of the most interesting I’ve seen as many other you tubers are doing the same. Happy Anniversary!
Glad you enjoyed it! If we can't find them we may resort to making it. Thank you. 😃
@@bigtruckbigtravelsI’ll find one for you Sondra. I thought he was at Farmers Market in Palm Springs last month.
@@MaryWehmeier we'll definitely have to check out the farmers market. Thank you!
We so enjoyed this video! Thank you. Also enjoyed meeting you both while at the Big Tent at Quartzite. 😊 We were going to put True Toppers on our first Renegade, Valencia, but chose to spend the money to upgrade to an Explorer. 😂🎉 Safe Travels and hope to see you again.
Great seeing you guys...twice! Love the Explorer. Thank you for watching.
Hi, new subscriber here. I really enjoy your channel…laidback, no drama and just every day stuff. I find it enjoyable, relaxing and simple plus you two are fun! There’s enough drama in the world. I love your rig..wow! It must be the biggest rig at quartzsite. I have a 45’ DP bus and kind of find it a little stressful to travel in due to its size. I might downsize next year to something around 33’ or so but we’ll see. Thanks for sharing and safe travels! 👍
Thank you so much, Terry! We're excited to have you along on the journey. 😊 We love our home and enjoy the Q when we visit. We enjoyed our 32 foot Class C this summer, definitely more flexible! Buckle up, the road calls to us in 2024!
Oooh! Lots of bargains! Ah the big top tent loaded with deals! 🎉
Yes but you still have to know pricing... lots of stuff. Thank you for watching the channel. 😁
I always enjoy your videos. The new places and your positive and happy attitudes. Even with 35 thousand subscribers, thats 43 thousand in Canadian subscribers, you still find time to answer messages.
🤔😂🤣OK, Joseph, that's funny! I like it. Never thought the channel would get this big. Glad you enjoy it. Stay warm this winter.
OMGEE I just came across your channel and LOVE your videos. I just love the two of you. You both are fun to watch and both of your personalities are great! Can't wait to watch more... guess I will be binge watching LOL

No arctic whataburgers?😂
I know! that's not right!
So I used my portable water pump in a box (close copy of yours, thanks for the idea) at La Posa South yesterday. Worked great and kept me out of the long line. Also learned a trick today, wait till it rains to dump your tanks, no line!
Wish we could have met y’all at the meet up, got here late. Had rv trouble😵💫
Fantastic! Glad I was able to help and sorry we missed you guys. Enjoy the Q. See you down the road. Thanks for watching.
Once again another great video. You guys are just so fun to watch and I had to laugh when Sondra was scrutiizing the cost for potato salad. I was trolling through the supermarket today, found 5 uncooked chicken thighs for $11.40. I then checked the price for a rotisseri chicken, which was $7.99! Guess what I bought! Proof Sondra, that we are two peas in a pod! LOL! But David, you missed the best joke opportunity when Sondra said she should receive another anniversary present. She set you up to say, "buy more stickers"! LOL!
Seriously, thank you for all the hard work with the videos. So refreshing to watch two people who love to camp and don't muck up their videos with sponsorships and 10 minute commericials. Please keep up the good work! Look forward to watching every week and hope to some day see you on the road!
You know, I didn't want to open the "sticker floodgates" by letting her get MORE stickers! 🤣Sometimes Sondra just gets irritated by the cost of some items...and the potato salad was it that day. I like her's more so it worked out better for me. Thank you for watching and you're very kind with your comments.
Great video guys! You really captured the essence of Quartzsite. Sondra, I feel for you...I've had a few of those travel-induced messes myself and you never know what has found its way beneath the slides.
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks, Kat for the comments. We really enjoyed our visit the other day and your camper is exciting. Can't wait to see where the wind and road takes you guys.
I'm just grateful I haven't gotten my smell back since covid. 😂
FYI, those propane tanks are probably safer than your gasoline tank.
We think so. Thank you.
@@bigtruckbigtravels Biggest hazard of those propane tanks is that they become projectiles in a high G accident. They won't vent unless the temperature gets really high and the safety valve activates. As far as penetrating them... with what ? They are the strongest thing in the cabin of the vehicle.
Call your drone COSMO 😊
We were talking about that name. We like it and definitely one of the top 3 names we like so far. It has personality for sure. Thank you. 😃
Another enjoyable video, I love how handy David is, reminds me of my late stepdad. It's always fun to see Sondra swooning over the stickers! 😉😊
Glad you enjoyed it, Carol. Sondra swoons a lot! I just stay out of the way until the sticker cloud of happiness passes and she comes back to earth! 😂🤣😎Appreciate your comments as always.

It is big but it's our home.
Thanks for another fantastic video. I always seem to learn something each and every time. I especially liked the part regarding Inc the composite propane cylinders. I did have a question regarding if you had to do any special venting where they are stored in the basement?
Nothing special but there is a vent area in two places in the LP compartment. They are very nice and light. Glad you learned something new! Woo-hoo!

Yes. Lots of vendors, lots of fun.
What brand and model is your drone? I'm looking to get back into video production this year after a few years away from production.
I'd like to add a drone in capturing various angle shots into the mix.
I love how your drone footage turned out.
Thank You! ,.... Ken
Thanks, Ken and we appreciate the comments. For Alaska I used a DJI Mini2 drone which worked good and allowed me to get used to a nicer drone platform. These more recent video's I am using a DJI Mini4 Pro drone and I really like the enhanced features...and once I get more experience then it will be even better! 🤔🤣😂😎 Thanks for watching the channel. Good luck with getting "back in the saddle".
@bigtruckbigtravels Thank You very much! I've been thinking about getting one for a few years now. It's time to do it now as they seem to be much better and more compact. I do a lot of remote back country hiking and climbing. Size & quality is what I'm looking for.
I've been following along with you folks for a couple of years now. I was thinking about doing the same as you when I retire. I love how you show the good, bad ins & outs. The latest wants vs needs with your inputs. It's been a very fun journey so far with you folks.
Looking forward to your next upload.
Thank You again with your info.
My homework begins now! 😆 🤣 😂
Happy Trails & God Bless!
PS: on another note. Your Quartzsite visit was a blast from the past for me. I was about 20 yrs. Old when I started driving semi back in 1986.
I'll never forget Quartzsite. As I rolled thru back about the late Summer of 1987. I stopped there to get McDonald's to go. It seemed like a somewhat deserted one horse town. Not much there. Then I came back thru later in the Winter. I had sort of a culture shock. There were so many people and backed up traffic that it's felt like I was visiting Woodstock! 😆 🤣 😂
Took me a good half hour to get thru the main drag. I didn't bother stopping.
What an eye opening experience! 😆
I'm sure it's a little better organized chaos nowadays.
I’m curious as to what kind of video editing software David uses to put together your videos?
I use Davinci Resolve, the paid version. The free software is not bad actually.
Did u guys dump before starting boondocks?as thar seemed appropriate
Yes. We usually always start out with fresh tanks.
2 people carry this big rig it’s just pathetic 😂and so ridiculous 😂😂
😆 🤣 well... it's our home and we enjoy it. Definitely not for everyone but thanks for watching the channel.
I don't think those True Toppers are worth it. ... seen quite a few videos and they just don't seem to work that well
They seem to have made a few improvements and we're hoping to "tweak" the design a bit for our application. We realize they won't be 100% but they are a fix for another issue we're having on two of the slides. In an RV, everything is a compromise. Thanks for watching.
How do u use the drone when you're riding bike was some one doing it for u? Great video!! We Love coming along !
It's just us. No one else does the video. I'm just good like that! 👍 😆 Neat view, eh?!?
