Which do you prefer: Elijah Craig C924 or Larceny C924? Drop your thoughts below and let us know which one wins in your book! 🥃🔥 Plus, tell us what barrel-proof bourbons we should review next!
As a huge Elijah Craig fan, I was looking for the C924 as soon as October 1 at my local retailers. I am on bottle 4 now and am only keeping 2 open for as long as possible. It is incredibly good and finishes well.
Definitely want to see a blind of all 3 releases for EC and Larceny. Another fun idea for a big blind is take all 6 releases from a year and blind them to see what surprises emerge.
I think that A124 really suffered from perception, following immediately after C923. If you remove this release, ECBP is wonderfully consistent, and A124 was really no different for me.
I’ve always been a fan of ECBP. Finally tried Larceny BP last week for the first time. Very good!! But I still prefer the ECBP a bit more. Great review guys!
I bought both the same day, the Elijah Craig is better in my opinion but the Larceny opened up beautifully in 3 weeks and is absolutely delicious as well.
Kurt at 8:30. the Larceny is also NCF, it's on the label, just like ECBP. Sounds like when you said that, you were under the belief that the Larceny is chill filtered. Larceny also, has an age statement. It's not just a rumor.
I’d love to get my hands on either of these some day - I’m in a whiskey desert outside the US so the only heaven hill product I can reliably get is Evan Williams black label, with the occasional Elijah Craig small batch showing up as well, but I can tell even from those that I’m a fan of the distillery profile
I was confused by Trenton's comment at time stamp 9:30 regarding the water dilution of the Bourbon. This is my understanding of federal requirements for Barrel Proof Bourbon. Again, learning on all of this detail so I'm sure that I'm missing something as why would the Mater Distiller be diluting the Bottled Bourbon? Federall requirements: Mash bill: At least 51% corn Distillation: No more than 160 proof (80% ABV) Barreling: No more than 125 proof (62.5% ABV) Bottling: No less than 80 proof (40% ABV) and no more than 150 proof (75% ABV) Aging: Aged in charred new oak barrels Flavorings and coloring's: No flavorings or coloring's may be added
Sounds like you two like these a bit more than the B release from earlier in the year. I was able to find those in stores around me, which made me happy. Hoping these show up. i kind of want to try that Elijah Craig one.
these are the last 2 BIN for me. I never skip a ECBP or LBP batch. I've been burned on limited releases so much that I wait to try em at a bar or a friends, but these two I never flinch and grab every time.
Watched this earlier today and stumbled across the Larceny about an hour later…so I bought it. Now I have to see about finding the EC. I do agree a blind of a year’s releases would be great
Smelling in colors is definitely more of a thing than you might imagine, a lot of fragrance people describe notes and fragrances as green, blue, etc so it makes sense
You guys may be lagging behind vs Kentucky, but you're almost always way ahead of us here in WA. Still haven't seen either of these near me yet. I didn't see the B524s until almost a month after you reviewed them.
Larceny c924 edges out slightly with that special extra note thats enjoyble. Thick, oily, strong, and tasty. ECBP c924 does fall at the end, last years c923 was a dream come true but was also 13yrs plus, incredible. This years was quintessential just exactly what you'd expect nothing less nothing more. Berlap sack was honestly spot on, I couldnt put anything with that but thats its it tastes what a berlap sack smells like, thats the finish, that why it falls off. I tasted color one time and its Early times the black caps I have a few of those and they have a really interesting flavor that's enjoyable, I also put purple or grape to it.
I was able to pick up both and was surprised that I preferred the Larceny over the EC. But both are excellent and worth the money. I’ve done EC blind and am looking forward to seeing yours!
I love these two bourbons! For special releases, they don’t break the bank and they are relatively easy to find. And y’all should totally do them blind. Cheers!
The whiskey nerd (like me) prefers non-chill filtered, but your average drinker does not. Chill-filtration makes it less oily and look better in the glass.
I have had my bottles for a little over a week now and I decided I wanted to do a side by side comparison of the Elijah Craig, the b. And C badge, because the B batch was one of the best bourbons I'd had ever tasted, and at least on first opening, I found that the C924 batch did not quite hold up as well as The B batch did. I just didn't think it was as drinkable. Or as pleasant on the palate, as the one from earlier this year. But this weekend, I am planning on doing what you guys just did in opening my larceny, and doing a side by side with the larceny, and the elijah craig, I want to see what that is like.
Maybe a dumb question but how do you get scents of marshmallow and cotton candy from something that doesn’t have either of those in it. I’m new to bourbons and I have a hard time understanding scents and flavors of things that are not within the whiskey itself.
Great video, would love a ‘24 ECBP A,B,C blind. Would also love you to blind the winner to maybe your last 2 favorites of past years if you have them around. I feel like B524 is Top 3 since 2020
You guys are amazing. I watch every video have for years. I don’t know if I said it enough, but thank you for all of the consistency for the joy that you bring to sharing bourbon together ❤❤❤
High Spirits on Highway 41 in Evansville, IN has Sagamore 9 yr. They have it because I asked if they could get it. They got 2 cases. Picked up my bottle last Wednesday. It's amazing on my palate. I may get another one. With tax it's $108.00.
Hey, I read an article that discussed a "neck pour" as opposed to a later pour from the same bottle. The suggestion was that the first pour from any bottle will not be as good as a later pour. So I'm wondering if y'all would test that. have someone open a brand new bottle and pour a glass. Then wait a while and pour the second and then let y'all taste them blind to see if you can tell the difference. I'd suggest two different bottles (and you'd have to have two of each), so that you're blind tasting four glasses. I'd be really interested in seeing your results and if you think the first pour really isn't as good as a pour after the bottle has opened up a little bit.

shoot i work at a liquor store in TX and we just got the larceny yesterday still havnt seen the elijah. It would be amazing to see a 6 glass blind with the 3 larceny and 3 EC from this year
If I may.. Respectfully... Offer a nugget from 35 years of culinary experience.. Bottles of wine are meant to be enjoyed in full in one setting. Hence the decanting and time to "breathe" and "open up". This allows the harsh ethanol to dissipate and the true flavor of the wine to be revealed. Spirits are different. The bottle is usually sipped on over a period of time. The "opening up" is done by the glass/glen. Good whiskey is expensive and the proof highly cherished. Trying to let a whole bottle breathe causes unnecessary oxidation and a decline in the quality of the end of the bottle. Big love from Big D Tx.
I respectfully disagree - getting some air on some bottles does wonders for them. Try buying two bottles from the same batch - open one, have a double and then let them sit for a couple months. Then try the bottle that has been open for a while vs the other freshly cracked. Usually a difference, sometimes a big one!
I was nice to drink this pair with you guys. I much rather prefer the EC. I have a hard time leaning into the larceny. I want to like the larceny. But cant seem to come around the corner.
So you recommend taking those bottles , or all bottles in general out and opening them up to 'let them breathe' for an hour or two? ? i like the C924 as well as the B924 ECBP
Blind A-B-C (of each distillate separately) plus whichever was the "best" from the year prior, so we know if this years releases are superior to last years best.
I felt the ECBP C524 is a little better than the C924 but not as good as the C923. Need to try an find some Dettlinger barrel proof, a whole new experience. IMHO the most unique bourbon I have ever tasted
Kurt taking a snort when he opens it is to Trenton as Trenton's looking at the color in the clear Glen's is to Kurt. PS definitely like to see an A, B, C blind.
Forgive me for my ignorance on this question, what is a ABC blind? Great job on video guys and for the information. Not in my budget though, always nice to hear about these types of releases.
Elijah and Larceny barrel proofs both get three releases spread throughout a year labeled like A124, B524, C924. First digit the month last two the year.
I feel like as they've pushed the Larceny BP pricing upmarket, they felt the need to differentiate the packaging a bit...I find the detail on the label impossible to read. As for the juice, they're different but a toss-up for me.
Its crazy in my state they are still putting out the B batch of Larceny and we don't get the EC BP ever? I've gotten the last six Larceny SBBP and if I see the C I'll certainly get it I'm guessing in January February the way my state operates.
Georgia doesn’t seem to get the latest batches of either Heaven Hill products. The stores I frequent are still selling the ECBP B523. I’ve seen and snagged the Larceny A124 and talked my local store into pulling an ECBP A124 out of their back room. Georgia must have received the lion’s share of the ECBP B523 batch. It just won’t go away.
I bet if Congress would scrap the three tier system y'all would be able to get things quicker. Even everyone in the system is doing his best, by nature it takes longer for three entities - liquor store, distributor, distillery - to respond to demand than it takes for just two. I didn't really care for the old Larceny label, and I don't really care for the new one either. But I don't buy whisky based on the label, so I can live with it. 😀 8:33 Hear, hear, Trenton! The idea is to keep whisky from getting cloudy when it gets to cold, but anyone who's storing his whisky at 40° or below has bigger problems than cloudy whisky.
Which do you prefer: Elijah Craig C924 or Larceny C924? Drop your thoughts below and let us know which one wins in your book! 🥃🔥 Plus, tell us what barrel-proof bourbons we should review next!
I'm still nursing a bottle of Elijah Craig A119, so I couldn't answer for C924. I think I'll try to find a bottle of the Larceny C924, though.
Do a Heaven Hill Heavyweight showdown, do all three batches of ECBP and LBP.
Larceny won that. You don't go wth was that then pick plain jane.
@@slbdrinks - generally prefer ECBP, but enjoy most of the LBP releases too. The C923 Larceny is Snickers in a glass!
As a huge Elijah Craig fan, I was looking for the C924 as soon as October 1 at my local retailers. I am on bottle 4 now and am only keeping 2 open for as long as possible. It is incredibly good and finishes well.

Love the A, B, C blinds!
Not sure if I’m alone in this but I love the new labeling on larceny. It stands out now
Definitely do a blind of all 3 releases of both EC and Larceny!🥃🥃🥃🥃🥃🥃
I have both of these, and both are great!
I bought both the same day, the Elijah Craig is better in my opinion but the Larceny opened up beautifully in 3 weeks and is absolutely delicious as well.
Definitely feel your pain on the releases being late. It’s the same here in PA. Although Old Overholt 11 did drop this past week. Great content!
A thumbs up for a snort 👍👏🏻☺️My preference is the Larceny….
The old rocking chair note was amazing, very unique, very cool!
Kurt at 8:30. the Larceny is also NCF, it's on the label, just like ECBP. Sounds like when you said that, you were under the belief that the Larceny is chill filtered. Larceny also, has an age statement. It's not just a rumor.
Love the Elijah Craig barell proof series Hoping to get my hands on a Elijah Craig 18 in 2025. The Viscosity of this Series is outstanding. 💕

I will say I have never seen Trenton react the way he did for C923 from any bourbon ever. Y’all were throughly impressed. Lol
Mash and Drum just blinded all the ECBPs. I'd be interested to see how your palates align with Jason's. Cheers!
Great show as always guys. I have a C917 that I haven't cracked yet. Love EC BP and looking forward to this one.
I was confused by Trenton's comment at time stamp 9:30 regarding the water dilution of the Bourbon. This is my understanding of federal requirements for Barrel Proof Bourbon. Bottling: No less than 80 proof (40% ABV) and no more than 150 proof (75% ABV)
Aging: Aged in charred new oak barrels

A blind of all the '24 batches would be awesome. I haven't gotten C yet, but A and B were so vastly different, it would be really interesting.
Sounds like you two like these a bit more than the B release from earlier in the year. I was able to find those in stores around me, which made me happy. Hoping these show up. i kind of want to try that Elijah Craig one.
I still have a little left of both the B batches but I have picked up both C's, cracked the bottles, gonna let them settle in while I finish the B's
these are the last 2 BIN for me. I never skip a ECBP or LBP batch. I've been burned on limited releases so much that I wait to try em at a bar or a friends, but these two I never flinch and grab every time.

I like a lot of the Larceny batches. I can get them for $60 all day around STL. Elijah is usually $75+ The price difference does sway my desicion.
Smelling in colors is definitely more of a thing than you might imagine, a lot of fragrance people describe notes and fragrances as green, blue, etc so it makes sense

The whiskey nerd (like me) prefers non-chill filtered, but your average drinker does not. Chill-filtration makes it less oily and look better in the glass.
I just learned that one of my local spots bundles these on each release. The C924 is currently $105 for both 😱
$105 for both bottles is a hell of a deal!
@@froxfx thanks French fries!
@@froxfxprobably means each instead of both. Maybe I’m wrong

I was just in Kentucky and got the overholt 11. Heaven hill put larceny c924 out while we were there but ECBP was still b524 in the gift shop

1) B524 (8.0)
2) C924 (7.3)
3) A124 (7.2)
I like the new label. Lol. Looks sleek and polished but not too much.
I don't know which one I like more, B524 or C924. I drank a whole bottle of B524 already and just cracked this C924. Both are REALLY good.

Yall aren’t that late on these releases. We’re just now seeing b524 releases in Colorado

Would love to see the all the letters in a blind!!! Definitely need some carbs before hand though, all that proof could go sideways lol
I think you guys should do a blind of larceny vs elijah craig barrel proof using the better batch releases and see what wins and order!!!!
i was able to find another C923. what a MONSTAH!!!
We’re just NOW getting the ECBP up in northern Ca
Well I must say both have different flavor profiles so I love Larceny and sometimes ECBP hits and sometimes misses.

Here in SD, we’re usually a month behind y’all with release dates. So don’t feel too bad about being behind on releases 😂
Perhaps Trenton and I have a similar palate as it seems we have something in common: rye drinkers who typically prefer Larceny over Elijah Craig.
We very seldom see the numbered EC’s in our area. I did pickup a cask strength store pick EC yesterday but haven’t opened it.
Would love to see the blind for both bottles!
A,B,C blind for the win!
the A B C would be good but what about the best of each year that you have? Kurt mentioned several.
