As a Brazilian, I wanted to comment on Blanka's theme: Not only they incorporate the airhorns, which was a staple of Brazilian funk for some time, they also incorporate some sounds that sound like Berimbau, which is a instrument mainly played in capoeira groups. They really put the Brazil in Blanka this time. Good shit.
They "put the Brazil in Blanka this time", but only in the theme, cause they made the actual character dress like a redneck from the US and walk like an idiot. Blanka was done dirty in SF6.
Dee Jay's theme suits him so well. Not only because he's Jamaican, but because his fighting stance has him dancing. And the dancing intensifies after he lands a combo. To him it's not a fight to the death, it's a vibe.
Im jamaican and i would have to say this is dee jays best theme yet. His original was more cuban then it was jamaican. The theme here isn't necessarily something you would here jamaicans listen too, but its more of, jamaican music made for ppl on vacay in jamaica. Its more tropical house then it is reggae/dancehall. Like justin biebers "sorry".
I am physically incapable of staying still when Jamie's theme comes on. The urge to groove is supernatural. I've never had a theme alone get me to try a character before but...dude.
The buildup to 10:37 and the drop itself alone makes Jamie’s theme one of the best SF6 character themes in my opinion The groove is simply too powerful 🪩
@@Halfway3 this right here is the essence of fighting games! I may not like your archetype, character, but dammit i like you so im gonna learn ya. Same here with Lily in sf6, I'm awful at rushdown tactics favoring aggression, but lily just speaks to me as a character. Gl on that grind!!
21:32 Ryu's theme actually uses a lot of Japanese instruments, the Sho at the start, and a bunch of string instruments in the song itself I think it having a bit of Mr. Worldwide is fitting though, he's been everywhere in the world cuz he's been in every game
I think that 3S and 6 give Ryu themes that actually represent him as a character. His SF2/4/5 theme sounds OK, but all it says about Ryu is "hero boy." His 3S theme sounds like a weirdo ascetic living in the mountains, and 6 has him coming down from said mountain, having finally conquered his demons, and ready to finally live life.
I think Jamie’s theme is the perfect fighting game theme. It sounds like a drunken bar fight in some classic kung fu flick. Also, it has that fighting game KICK that Luke’s theme lacks
Thing is Luke is the only one to have his theme return from SF5 and I would argue that his SF5 theme is slightly better, but I still like his remix theme even so.
I like to think JP's theme is representative of his composure. The first two rounds are slow, calculated and tense due to his stylish and imposing demeanor. But by the final round JP has had it up to here with you, throwing off his schedule by the simple act of resisting, and the facade falls off as he goes absolutely ham with the Psycho Power.
And it's amazing, every time 1:55 plays in his song i get chills. The electronic sounds (new) along with the orchestra feel (classy) and haunting opposite tones (haunting) really makes it feel both new (sf6), classy (jp), haunting (as you said, he goes ham with the psycho power) and the almost 3 different music layers really make sense with his character, where he has that calculating, angry side to him which shows itself in the chaos that is on going. im extremely excited to see gameplay, especially good gameplay through both the eventual beta and the game release when i can play him myself.
Ryu's track does fit Ryu currently if you play World Tour Mode. When you meet Ryu, he's a lot more calm and relaxed, less more about finding strength and more about enlightenment and being at peace. His intro, mannerisms and interactions just fit with this. Less hard stoic and more just rolling with it, and I'm 100% all for it.
@@osu-osu-osuat peace with himself I'd say he's conquered his demons and now he's doing what he truly enjoys and living his life to the fullest his theme absolutely radiates that energy
@@thedarkderp2520true, i mean, what else is there to do for Ryu. The dudes completed the game. He's beaten M Bison, taken down Shadaloo and conquered the satsui no hado. To me his theme is the song thats played at the credits scene after you've beaten a game or finished a movie.
I just love Jamie's theme so much, literally the whole character made me INSTANTLY fall in love with him visually and in gameplay. It's like every fighting game; a new player must pick their first character ever for the game and the best way to get someone into the game is telling them "pick the one you like the most" just by their portraits. Jesus, Jamie just hit all the perfect parts for me, character and music wise. 10/10 Capcom.
Listening to the themes, I think the Ryu theme is probably supposed to be more of "travel" instead of "Japanese". That might be why it's a little jarring, but I think it definitely fits his character in terms of guiding someone into this new style of street fighter.
Exactly. Ryu is Japanese but both at home and not at home anywhere in the world. He's the perennial vagabond/wanderer, less interested in culture than testing himself wherever the next fight is. I wouldn't expect his music to be overly Japanese.
It's a weird situation since the Dynamic tracks makes them much better experienced in actual gameplay than listening by themselves. I'll admit by themselves some can feel pretty lacking but I think they compliment the gameplay very well and the idea of each round having it's own version of the track is cool. I do wish the "low health" variant would only kick in in rounds 2 or 3 though it does get a little tiring hearing the same section across each round as one players health gets low.
My thoughts exactly, on the other side of the coin we have GG Strive where some of the character themes can’t be experienced fully in game and better experienced by themselves. Both ways are perfectly fine, and it depends on your own preference. SF 6’s approach is probably done on purpose, when it’ll eventually grow on you through defining matches you might even get connected to some of the tracks on an emotional level.
I didn’t even know it was dynamic but that’s pretty interesting, If I hear cammy’s theme kick up to the end bit when i’m low on health Id def feel ready to clutch up and beat some ass
Makes sense it's controversial since that's the same excuse used for MK where the plan was to have the music be ambient to fit with the gameplay than be heard separately but most MK fans don't like it for being too ambient.
Thing is even with that round changing aspect, sf3 did it better in older home versions because that OST is also just fire af outside gameplay. So even in that relative uniqueness sf6 doesnt stack up, most character songs just ain't hitting.
Im new to SF and the first and probably unique thing i didn't like was the songs. God theyre terrible. I can't even fathom how older players feels when in previous game they had great songs.@@arkainjalex12
The best thing about Zangief’s new theme is that it feels EXACTLY like a pro wrestling entrance walkout song. I could see him walking out and posing while doing his normal walk animation towards the ring. The older versions of his song feel really off in comparison to this one.
The music is very, VERY different. However, I like the energy it brings. Definitely sets it apart and creates a unique atmosphere for the game. My favorite themes so far are Ken and Juri.
The music is very good IMO and I like it. Kinda like modern Tekken music, is different, very contemporary, feature genres that I'm not the biggest fan of but I can't deny it's effectiveness in the game and even it's quality
I really love Jamie's theme. The interplay and call/response of the funky elements with the disc scratching and other elements is a great blend and implementation.
The themes are more character focused rather than battle focused in my opinion. In sf5 everyone music made them seem like an incredible hero or diabolical villain. In sf6, the themes seem more like normal representations of the character's personalities.
I really like Ryu's new theme. I feel like his old music gave off vibes of "gotta surpass the Satsui no Hado!" Now, it feels like he's finally found peace and he can actually have fun with his martial arts career
The new theme gives off the feeling of a mature and traditional martial arts master roaming in the modern age Like ryu has nothing to worry about and is just chilling in the new city
one thing i love about ken's theme is how it uses his older leitmotif near the end which is something im not sure any songs do, it's kinda like "yeah he's older and more gruff and on the run, but it's still the same old ken" and i love that
I think the main problem people will have with this soundtrack is it does lack usable leitmotifs for the characters. You can't imagine a scene where a quick tune plays before revealing a shadowy figure and going "oh that's X's theme!" I do like this soundtrack but I can understand the hesitancy as well.
@@vbun4662 honestly i'm not fully sure i agree, at least entirely. i think there are pretty neat leitmotifs i can think of for at least a few characters(i haven't heard all the themes, i'm not fully sure) but theyre definitely not as striking as 20-30 years of leitmotifs for sure
@@vbun4662 It's hard to follow an act now considered so classic people sing it acapella on youtube. However, I find myself humming Ryu Aviator from time to time already. So far, I admit I've been very pleased with the OST. Stand out for me are Ryu's, Zangief's, Marisa's and Ken's. I also found I liked their rap anthem thingy called "side line" or something.
The best thing about Jamies theme is that it kinda reflects his entire game-play. The longer the fight goes on the crazier he gets. On a side not Kimberly also has 2 themes. The second theme even has lyrics if you land 2 LVL3s.
@@Solobuddy or maybe, and follow with me here this is gunna get high level, it's different then traditional fighting game music and art is inherently a subjective form of artistic media, so just because you don't like it it doesn't mean it sucks.
I'm 3 months late to this video, but I gotta add: You mentioned that all the themes have a cultural identity to the characters, but Ryu doesn't really. I think that's perfect considering who Ryu is; a traveller. He wanders the world trying to learn everything he can from anyone he meets, so his theme blends elements from a lot of places. The song really gives me the feeling of exploring a new place, which I think is the point, considering it's title. "Viator", an old word meaning "Traveller".
I agree with most of Max's sentiment, but the one thing he missed was the description for Marisa's theme which explicitly says it was supposed to invoke the feel of being in a colosseum with a large crowd and funnily enough he was still able to make that out. Also he is probably right that Ryu's theme is the "SF6" theme, but I just interpreted it as him being done struggling with training and only thinking about fighting and now just wants to enjoy life which you could argue still represents Street Fighter 6.
@@pixel_stream8245 Which is ironic cuz a lot of the complaints I see is that "this music doesn't hype my up, too calm" and something along those lines, yet most of the stage themes (like Genbu Temple) are quieter and less intense than the character themes.
I think the biggest shift in the compositions this time round is that they sound less melody dominated. When you think of classic SF themes, you usually think of the themes' memorable melodies more than anything else. Guile, Ryu, Ken, etc. even the 3S example has a melody you can remember, on top of that iconic opening. These SF6 themes almost feel composed to specifically be "background" music, because of the amount of repetition and lack of melody or anything in the forefront. Ryu's and Jamie's themes have memorable melodic parts, but even they are short phrases, and quite repetitive still. Even thinking of the classic themes, a lot of them follow a structure of Intro-A(Verse)-B(Bridge)-C(Chorus)-Repeat, with each section having it's own unique identity, either through instrumentation, texture, rhythm, etc. A lot of the sections in these SF6 themes tend to just blend together without any huge changes, which is why they feel like they don't go anywhere. A part of me wonders if this shift to "background" themes has something to do with the sound accessibility options they showed in the last trailer. Make the music less distracting with less powerful melodies, drops, or tonal shifts, to allow the sound accessibility to be as distinguishable as possible. I mean, maybe not, but it's worth thinking about at least.
A lot of 3S songs are less melody focused, in a similar way. Hugo’s theme, ryu’s theme, makoto’s, Remy’s, Melodie’s that are either very short or almost nonexistent in favor of the beats
Ken has one of the best themes I’ve ever heard in a fighting game. It beautifully expresses going through hard times and struggles, but also the power to never give up and keep moving forward, it’s genuinely inspiring.
I can respect that, but that grinding staccato and almost dub step "woom woom" aftereffect, doesn't cut it for me. Considering Ken's age, origins, and his regular theme being a "soundalike" to Mighty Wings; I think they could've given him more of that 80s New Wave sort of feel or even CityPop if they wanted to make it more melancholy. For me, it sounds more like a theme for Ken's nephew more than Ken.
Not only is Jamie’s theme amazing and fun to listen to while fighting, but it also fits his character super well. A cocky drunkard that’s showing off and having fun. Best track to me
@@SuperSpindasher1991 he is, but capcom had to censor his drunkness in order to keep the game a lower rating. They just call it special juice or secret juice or something like that😂
Something interesting about these themes is that I feel like what they're played on is really important. I heard JP's theme on my headphones and really didn't like it but then I heard it on a soundbar with a dedicated subwoofer and now it's one of my favourites. The sub-bass really adds a lot to most of these themes which could be contributing to the divisive opinions.
Same, I hated chun-li, kimberly and JP's themes because they sounded so muddy and overcrowded, just amateurish, then I listened on my good headphones and they clicked. There's depth and layers to these tracks that gets lost on weaker equipment.
every day after working as a bartender, i'm tired and mentally warn out and it's always the best feeling to have a video from you max. makes me want to be more passionate about the things i enjoy. thanks for the entertainment!
I was genuinly outraged at the dislike for JPs theme, its perfect, its so subtley menacing yet calm and slowly gets more unhinged until it hits a crecendo, that peak of insanity and power of being the big bad villain, and then calmed down but still unhinged just to end at an abrupt cutoff
Try absolutely loving Guile's theme and have everyone shit on it, lol. Although i think the theme would benefit better from it if the horns weren't muted
As a JP main I initially thought it was disappointing but god it really grows on you the more you hear it, to the point you realize how it suits JP perfectly
Even if SF6's OST is not your thing, you have to admit it's better than non-existent OST of last three MK titles. SF6 actually has a vibe and identity regarding it's music. It's something I would listen outside of the game (GG Strive and KI(2013) OST still on repeat), but it's still pretty cool.
100% the SF6 sound track has very pronounced identity the issue is if you don't like the genre of music that the majority if not all the themes fall into you kinda are shit out of luck as there is no relief from it
JPs theme is hands down my favorite. If you think about the character himself and how he has Psycho power, but isn’t evil because he controls it, but Psycho power itself is an evil power the song honestly is amazing, to me anyways. My favorite character is Juri but I like JPs theme way way more. Fief’s is my second favorite, so amazing to listen to, a whole experience just like JP! Cammy’s is 3rd, also really really good. Would have them all on my Spotify playlist if they were out yet.
I've been hearing crackhead theories that he also uses Soul Power to balance it. His name JP is the identical letter just the P is flipped in his character theme video giving yin and yang vibes
Ken's theme with that little callback to his old theme in the end is my favorite. With Luke's theme, it starts good then the second part hits and it gets elevated-the chorus(?) gets a few extra notes that makes it airy and extra cheerful. AND THEN JAMIE
My thing is, SFV really did such an amazing job with (most) of the classic character themes, we really needed to take a break from them. Like you can’t just go back in and try to one-up the SFV guile theme immediately. Gotta build some distance: let us long for those themes a bit.
Ken's theme feels like a Rocky Training Montage. It feels like a guy that's fighting with pure determination and desire. Everything is on the line and he has everything to prove.
Probably the best thing about the new music that isn't gonna hit people right away is how consistently the tracks get out of the way. When it's in the background of the fights it's not overwhelming or overshadowing the game sounds or even the commentary features. When it's playing in the background and someone is streaming it doesn't clash with their voices. Then you put the tracks on in headphones and while it's not stand out iconic on every song, it's a serviceable song on its own. It's a part of a whole and it feels very considerate for that function.
I’m a bit upset so little time was spent on Lily’s theme. It’s one of the most fun themes in the game with incredible nods to spanish instrumentation. I literally spent my whole week listening and dancing to it in my room when it came out
There have been so many countless fighting games that have had mid music, which grows on you as the years go along, except for maybe one or two tracks that stick out. I have no idea if everyone will change their mind on SF6's music, but people that grow up with it or it's their first fighting game, will tell you how awesome it is in 5-10 years.
No. The music is incredibly generic. That's the issue. There's no association with the character because the music isn't memorable in the first place. I'm more than open to new themes but sf6 dropped the ball
@@goby1764 Nah. As the op said, it’ll inevitably grow on you as you play the game more. You will win, lose and have memorable moments with these songs playing in the background and will consequently create your own, personalised character associations overtime.
I think one thing that's not brought up nearly enough is how SF6 music is Adaptive, and this has a massive impact as to why the music sound a certain way. This is why some might think that it's too tame for a fighting game music, because every song has a quieter sound for Round transitions. It's also why most of these have beat drops so the music flows better instead of just cutting to the next part of that music, the advantage of this is that it sets up the right music depending on the stakes, AKA the Round 1 part are naturally much calmer but that also inherently makes Round 3 and Low Health parts more intense and feel like the round/game is actually about to end, something completely unachievable if it's just regular music which serves more or less as just a background music. This is also the reason why I dislike Dhalsim, Lily and especially Dee Jay's theme, because their music is done in such a way that they might as well not be adaptive music at all since the difference between each parts are barely any different from one another. This is made obvious during 10:38 (Jamie) and 35:09 (JP) and especially JP, listening to them as if they're a non-adaptive music really REALLY doesn't do them justice when they're not at all meant to be listened that way.
Given that the music is adaptive I don’t think anything we hear from these videos will be an exact representation of what we will hear in game. The mix and arrangement might be completely different. If you’ve played the beta you will have a much better idea about it than I do though. I haven’t been able to get on it
I believe Ryu's is probably the first song anyone would search for on the internet, so they made his theme more modern to represent SF6 as a whole, not just his ethnic origins.
originally i wasn't TOO keen on the soundtrack but the more i listened to it, as well as actually getting the game too really changed my views on the soundtrack as a whole. i think it's fantastic, definitely having the same overall hip-hop influenced techniques that games like third strike incorporated, but with a fresh modern spin on it. i think the problem is that just a lot of people just dislike... change. and i agree, especially as an aspie, i despise any sudden changes to my schedule or routine... change sucks, but change by itself is not a bad thing. could you imagine the game having the exact same soundtrack style that street fighter ii had, even down to returning characters having their exact same themes still? it would be lame if capcom didn't actively change things up and having variation for every entry
a "bad" game soundtrack isn't defined by its genre, rather how it's presented, how much thought was put into the composition.. when it plays and what it symbolizes. an actual "bad" game ost would be harsh on the ears, like the stuff that actively makes you wince when you hear it. sf6's music is not that lmao
Also, it should be kept in mind that by only listening to the beginnings of the song, you're getting the round 1 versions instead of the full dynamic suite. But I get time constraints and getting your general thoughts.
I love JP's theme! It gives off an "I've arrived" vibe and as the song reaches its peak, it turns into a "This ain't even my final form" feeling. Absolute awesomeness!
Definitely. It has this mysterious, imposing, and powerful vibe. Which, based on what we've seen from the character so far, seems appropriate. Good theme imo
It definitely has Final Boss energy that's for sure. But I do wonder what his role is gonna be in world tour since we can learn moves from the roster. 🤔
@@ThePhoenixScribe atleast we know that we can learn from him, as they showed his portals being used in custom character fights during the latest showcase. man this game is awesome, im hyped
@@lukelun Yeah and they showed someone using his super too! And haha hell yeah I am pumped too! This game just keeps getting more better and better the more footage I see! :D
I think the problem with a lot of the tracks is that they lack a solid hook or melody. If you go back to SF2 or Alpha and listen to the tracks, they have strong hooks that have you humming the song even when you're not playing the game. That's what's missing from a lot of these tracks.
I don't think that's a problem just different. Thr music evolves with the fight which is probably why. Plus it's hard to compare it to song that have been around for decades when the game isn't out, needs time to grow on people
@@kei7540 older home versions of 3rd strike did rhe dynamic round change thing but still identifiable hooks just fine. And most of the tracks have been out for months, almost a year for a few of them, plenty of time for folks to have heard them over and over and form solid opinions. Most just aren't hitting like that for many folks especially when 3 did the same assignment but better in this regard. Oustide character themes the OST for 6 does slap though, so idk what happened with this aspect.
yeah this is more monotone, i would say. theres a drop in the third round but other than that its much the same throughout. I like it though, this game needs more thinking than ooga booga go in due to the drive gauge (which might increase footsies for it to recharge, as there isnt really a big incentive to go in), so having it more relaxed and "jammy" along with the hiphop-street style really fits in my opinion.
I actually agree with this a lot, and it's why I find some of them weaker. The ones i really like on the other hand are Jamie's, Ken's, Ryu's, Luke's, and they're all hummable
I think that's just indicative of today's music in general unfortunately, at least for modern hip-hop. I really hate to be that guy so I won't go into some long diatribe but I think it's really hard to find enjoyable music these days.
I actually think that Ryu’s theme fits him very well for where he’s at in Street Fighter 6’s story. Shadaloo is gone, and he’s now completely free of the Satsui no Hado’s influence. Ryu’s life might be the best it’s ever been, and the theme reflects that.
To add on to that, that is why I absolutely love his SF3: New Generation and 2nd Impact theme “Good Fighter.” As he has fully rejected the dark Hado, he is now able to enjoy fights as fights and have a good time with them. Fights are his way of testing himself and for the first time, he is able to have fun with them
I feel the same way. Ryu's previous theme always sounded very "dramatic" to me, as they depict his internal struggle. This new theme is much more upbeat and happy, which reflects how Ryu likely feels having freed himself of his inner demon.
It also lacks the regional aspects of other songs because Ryu is literally "the world warrior" he spends his time traveling the world to fight. He might have been born in Japan but it's not a core of his identity in the same way it would be for Honda.
A lot of the themes just lack melody. Some of the SFA3 themes also had a similar problem, where the best tracks have melodic hooks you can latch onto. It feels a lot of these themes were created with lyrics - which would normally provide the melodic line - and then took away the vocal track.
Alpha 3 also suffers from songs feeling like they last 20 seconds, which is why Im not surprised 5 adlibbed so much with Karin's and Mika's, having the A3 songs be more like bookends to the rest. Karin's theme in 5 is still my favorite street fighter character song ever so I'm not complaining though.
@@MagillanicaLouM Oh yeah for sure. I probably didn't really get my point across that well, but many A3 tracks tend to drone on, but the few good ones still have that melodic line imo
@@uzairgangat The problem is whether it fits in a fighting game or not. It works for some of these themes, but most of them feel like I wouldn't even recognize too well while playing.
It feels like some songs build up to nothing sadly. You wait for like 20 seconds and the song is taking you in a path that leads to nothing. That is my only problem with it, i think the style and vibe fit sf6 pretty well
Thats especially true of the character themes, the stage music is ironically the more memorable in 6. In the character trailers that they ve shown they re long enough for the best part of their themes but past that then it becomes background music which is a shame. Listen to Falkes theme or Gs theme in 5 and you ll get the mood and dynamics played out in full.
@@wololos even that has more energy, it goes somewhere. This feels like a ost that you aren't supposed to pay attention. The songs aren't bad but i think they missed the point of fighting game music. If they played as background music in world tour it would work better
I think Ken and Ryu’s themes fit great, because they would have fit the other character in previous games. Ryu’s overcome the Satsui no Hado, he’s defeated his darkness, so he can live in the moment, while Ken, who’s been the carefree counterpart to Ryu for years, is weathered, and his battle is only beginning. And on cultural music, the main instrument in Ryu’s theme aside the saxophone is the shamisen, a classical japanese instrument. All in all, it gives me the vibe of a modern day wandering samurai living for the first time.
@@elshogun1032 Eh, now that I think aboutit I'm not so sure, take it with a grain of salt. But they're definitely in the same key. Maybe that's what I meant
My personal take with Ryu is that hes been the guy who travels around the world fighting to get stronger, so I don't see him tied to the 100% Japanese theme for his character. He has that bit of the wanderer gene that really has no real home. So I feel that the music reflects his Japan roots, but also reflects his current circumstance of him being in the city, and also his excitement at fighting and his wisdom in being such a master by this point. So to me it fits 100% But I feel that what lacks here is the oomph that usually fighting games have. This is why for example Jamie sounds great, while the blanka one, or the Juri one, or Guile etc. lacks that potency in their tracks. Its still great music, but I wouldn't say its fighting music. Sometimes its just noise lol. Also I don't know why but the Juri song reminds me of ring fit.
This is a good take, as his theme name is VIATOR which basically means a wanderer. He is a worldly fighter - but the Japanese instruments (his home) is still there within. Truly a different Ryu than previous games. A more carefree and hopeful Ryu
The music does hit different, but not worse. It feels *easy to listen to* while keeping in theme. The former music pumped you up but it also drained you. SF6 music is the music that wants you to get into the zone in training mode. For example, Jamie's theme escalates which fits well with him getting progressively more drunk. Jun's theme sounds like spiders in your wardrobe having a dance party. JP literally puts you in Castlevania with him as Lord Dracula. They really went with a feel of the character and where they're from. They have a personality and personalities can polarize.
31:54 I think that's what I love the most about SF6 Dee Jay, his chiller vibe compared to the rest of the cast. They did a great job conveying that he's a dancer first and a fighter second, he's fighting to have a good time and to feel the rhythm more than anything else. Even his more mixup heavy moveset feels so much more playful, like it's begging you to just experiment and adjust to the flow of the match. As someone who has never been super competitive but still loves to play these games I can really vibe with his overall personality
I love Cammy's theme, it is really cool as you said but to me it feels like she's infiltrating a base with the song constantly going between quiet and loud like Cammy sneaking during the quiet parts and knocking some poor goon out or getting into a skirmish when it picks up
The problem is that Is that most SF2 fans aren’t real fans of the series. They just followed the hype train when it was out. Only to never follow the series afterwards. They want to hear 50 remakes of sf2 music. Even if you don’t like 6 soundtrack It’s not the worst thing ever.
@@goby1764it doesn’t. There’s 125 songs on the soundtrack anyone who can’t find a single track out of the whole thing that you like is either trying to nitpick every single thing, or doesn’t like music that much to begin with.

For the purposes of this game its great. They work best over long sessions compared to the old tracks. Juri's theme in Street Fighter 4, while great, gets REALLY old after long sessions. The dial is at 11 at all times and it doesnt change. The new tracks definitely work as dynamic pieces compared to before. When everyone has low hp on the final round and it ramps up, it feels way more special. Doom was very similar for a majority of the game too. Its mostly dynamic melodies and reserves the best songs for when its important.
Manon, Kimberly and Dee Jay's theme definitely feels like it describes them and what they're about very well. Manons sounds classy like shes on a catwalk, Kimberly's sounds very urban and upbeat and Deejay's sounds pretty festive and Caribbean. I'm cool with people not liking the soundtrack since we all get a right to opinion, but I love what they did with it since its about as refreshing as the soundtrack for Second Impact.
Which is to say that basically everyone who doesn't like the music in this game is objectively fucking wrong. Objectively and provably. Especially if you were to get someone who actually studies musical theory to come in here, listen to it and explain in their expert opinion WHY it is. I'm more than confident you'll find far more music theory experts that will find all the things that a great composition needs in these tracks to be there, than the ignorant fuckheads who know very little on the subject that will more than likely have nothing more substantial than ignorant gut reactions to serve as any contrary. But of course, everyone who DOESN'T know shit will inevitably have their opinions valued just as equally as those that DO know their musical ass from a hole in the ground, because that's how this coddled fucking society just works these days, according to every dipshit too afraid to be based or bold enough to tell people the shit they need to hear for once in their lives. "Every opinion has a right and deserves to be respected" my fucking ass. This is the real world. The one that exists outside of the lessons learned on fucking Barney & Friends.
@@JJOOKER Juris theme just screams I'm gonna play with ya until I'm bored and then end it in a couple of hits. Her theme has some serious bass in surround sound.
@Emre her theme grew on me after the third time I heard it. That undercover operative feel is there from start to finish, plus it sounds as cold and cool as she is.
I think there might be a misunderstanding about what these tracks are for. These aren't meant for fighting, they're for the story to set a mood for characters. The stage music is supposed to be the actual battle music for stuff like vs mode.
That makes no sense, they obviously are meant for fighting since you can pick them for battle, they are even the first choice the game offers you for music selection.
That makes no sense, they obviously are meant for fighting since you can pick them for battle, they are even the first choice the game offers you for music selection.
They are actually perfect for fighting because they bend in really well while in a match, and the dynamic music is really good. IMO this is better than having something like, just an example, GG Strive theme with lyrics that are unnecessary and can be distracting while fighting
I think the thematic reason why Ryu's theme feels out of place for him is because he's a wanderer. He doesn't really have a home for himself, and he more or less goes around wandering the world, fighting people, and working on bettering himself every single day. It just so happens that part of his journey lands him in this urban setting, which is why his theme sounds more funky and urban than his usual themes.
I look at it a bit differently. Ryu's theme traditionally has a driving feel to it, because it matches Ryu's drive to better himself, and later on, overcome the dark Hado. His 3rd Strike theme is more percussion based and has much heavier use of tradition Japanese instruments, which says to me that Ryu can't move forward in life; he's stuck in the past, trying to do what he's been doing his whole life in the hope that he can finally surpass his hurdles. This theme has few instances of Japanese instruments and overall has a more Western sound to it. This tells me that Ryu has finally overcome his struggles and discovered who he really is and finally able to move on. He is Japanese, hence the Japanese instruments, but he's more than that; he's more than just "Japanese Karate man" and enjoys wandering the world and experiencing all that can be experienced. I will admit, I don't like this theme as much other SF6 themes and even themes from older games, but this is what I think when I hear this song.
Thats what I was thinking when hearing Max talk about Ryu's theme. To me the more I think about the theme represents him ass a wanderer. But I suppose representing SF6 is another good way to look at it too. Thinking of it the way you have made it fit Ryu better in my opinion.
I actually think that Ryu's new theme is incredible. It feels like it's saying that he's finally mastered himself and conquered the dark Hadou within and he's ready to move on to new challenges; the track is saying, "Watch out world, he's refreshed and ready to go!"
I think the strongest track Ryu ever had was just in Marvel vs Capcom 1. It was optimistic, energized, it felt like the intro to a Saturday morning cartoon. Granted, that's exactly the beats of the actual tv show, but that in turn just lifted the intro to SF2. I think this new track suits him. He's won against the Dark Hadou. He doesn't have to be in Try-Hard mode anymore cause he's got the same easy swagger of a cancer survivor. His journey is no longer about getting strong, cause he's already there. Maybe he and Ken can gatekeep Luke and all the other new kids.
I've not finished the video, but I think that Ryu's theme does elicit Ryu because Ryu is a different person than we're used to from him. He's surpassed Satsui and he's chilling out these days, but he's still got that old fire in there, it's just different. So I think the theme fits him as he is now.
I think Ryu's theme fits him perfectly. I've never thought of him as the japanese fighter, but the "World Warrior" he has seen so much, done so much. He's defined by his travels and the places he's been. The best representation of his identity would not be his nationality but of his experiences across the world. So this jazzy upbeat theme from an entirely different place, feels like it fits him so well. Plus theres still some hints of japanese styled instruments and music in his theme just more in the background.
I think a lot of my problems with the streetfighter six soundtrack stem from how many of the songs don’t really have a memorable Melody to hold onto. You’ve obviously got your outliers like Ryu and Jamie, but in the event where this game does become as humongous as I think it’s going to, I don’t think I could just walk out onto the street and ask somebody what the Guile theme in Street fighter six sounds like.
I think they feel more like stage soundtracks than a specific character's theme, which is not good. I mean, you can have a song that fits both the stage and character, like Tekken Tag 2's Heavenly Garden/Fallen Garden.
"Viator" sounds like 'street fighting' to me. It has the street beat and sounds, but is fast-paced to get you moving and also has the occasional japanese flute to represent his roots. That's why it's perfect for Ryu. He's the embodiment of being a street fighter
I don't want ryu theme remix again, but the songs feel too souless, they lack the intensity necessary for a fighting game, they lack hype or a crazy solo in the middle for when the fight gets rough. Specially ryu's sf6 theme feels too jazzy and unimpactfull
Also, keep in mind Max that the character themes that you're listening to isn't just one song has it's a combination of the 1st round, 2nd round, final round, critical health and whatever else within these 3+ minute tracks. Intensity increasing of course. What do they call this..? Progressive music themes? Something like that🤔Personally I dig these songs and the music direction. Anyway if you already knew that, then my bad lol. Anyway have a good one✌
I think if we judged these songs specifically the SF vets compared to their classics it is a little underwhelming. But they're really good when you judge them just as songs. I'm particularly interested in the stage songs. They're really good in this game. Especially that Paris stage music that Capcom is taking forever to release
Luke's theme is really great when you are training . It just bland in , dosent feel repetitive and suddenly it kicks in and you start vibing for a moment then you go back to your training. Maybe it make sense considering the fact he's a coach now.
To me I feel the top tiers of the character themes are Manon and Zangief. It fits the character, it transitions well through rounds and it hooks you in.
I feel like the there are a few bangers but the thing that's throwing everyone off is... how relaxed the music sounds. It feels like everyone's chilling or vibing to most of their themes not fighting and it's off.
@@blackmanta2527 Not just Ken's but it's the entire OST. Why does Ryu, the most caveman like character of the current roster have some kind of hip hoppy music. Why does Chun Li who's new image is about becoming mature and also have electronic music instead of something more traditional and mature sounding.
I think this is very accurate, they could had a very distinct more “fighty” sound if they just made a faster beat. The current melody of the songs is okay as I feel like they embody the character well.
@@blackmanta2527 Nah Ken's is one of the best so far. It clearly has elements of previous Ken theme but is much slower and somber because Ken is not exactly in the best place story wise. It would be weird if his theme was has intense as previous. Ken's theme in SF6 works specifically for Ken in SF6
It feels like the music has identity to each character in some way be it their region or what their associated with guile’s is the least noticeable but cammys theme just felt like the word “covert” same for Juri it was kpoppy and wonky but that fits her she’s a very upbeat and crazy character
Blanka's is good. Ryu's is great. Jamie's is great. Honda's is good. Ken's is good. Marisa's is good. JP's is great but slow burn. Zangief's is fun. Cammy's somewhat good. Everyone else is mid to meh.
The music in SF6 is a lot more laid back and chill compared to previous entries, which I think fits the tone this game is going for. So far there doesn't seem to be some kind of overarching world ending/domination plot, you're just a guy learning fighting techniques from masters, and getting to know more about their personal lives and maybe struggles, and the music fits that style. And while I'm personaly not a fan of most compositions, I don't think they're bad tracks, just not my style. I do really like DeeJay's theme though.
I think it's good to see people who say that it's just not their style. A lot of the people who say they "don't like the music" are likely just not fans of the genres that are in the music or are used to fighting games that just throw the melody and bridge at you super fast.
I get that people dislike Guile's theme especially in comparison to his original theme, but that theme doesn't represent who Guile is anymore. The old theme was intense, representing a hardened, single-minded soldier on a quest for vengeance. This new theme is even-toned, calmer, and uses a lot of instruments prevalent in the 80s. Guile has become a level-headed family man, with a theme to match.
What you're saying basically means "Current Guile sucks, he's a boring character with no tasks, so his theme song sucks as much as he does." I even agree with you, but that doesn't make the situation any better or Guile's theme song interesting.
Ken's theme gives me vibes of "I didn't give up before, I'm sure as hell Im not gonna do it now" Like the feeling to make a comeback when you are at your lowest
Regarding Zangief's theme: It really feels like a Pro wrestler's entrance music. Very distinct and Imposing opening like most well recognized entrance music (ex: The Rock, Stone cold Steve Austin, Tripple H). There's a clear drop for when he would come out and walk down the ramp. Then the music slows down for when He would climb onto the ring and do his routine showboating and crowd work. The music fits perfectly to the new pro wrestler Zangief Capcom are trying to turn him into.
Juri’s theme especially made me wonder if there’s plans to have an artist sing or perform over the track. I feel like a lot of them, hold the ones that have instrument solos, could do with some lyrics to send them the next level.
They use Juri's music as the waiting/hold music for Capcom Fighters streams and it fits really well as waiting music lol. Hard to say how it will actually sound mid match
The problem for me just come from the fact that this music are more stage music than character music. They make you more feel an atmosphere than a charcter or a story. That's the big difference with the ken's theme, that's why people loves it more than the other. In Ken theme there's a melody witch is central and easily reconizable that fit's well with the character story. I am pretty sure that if these music was introduce as stage theme people would have think it feet well. We will have theme classicisme character song as DLC for sur so...
I enjoyed Marisa's theme song because its starts off like you're being approached by the heaviest of footsteps, but then transitions into, oh you're not being approached by the footsteps, you are the footsteps. A real, here comes Goliath, theme
I’m so happy they took a chance with the music. They went for it and went hard and they’re doing something different that that’s awesome. So happy not to immediately hear recycled and remixed classics. Sure, give me that down the line. But everything in SF6 feels fresh as hell and that rules. I DO think the mix is a little too carved out on all the tracks. All the tracks are missing some mid range warmth. I think this is intentional. I think they are mixing for clarity so that things like the commentary and SFX remain legible. I get it. But I would’ve mixed it differently.
It was really brave of them to try and make the most boring sound track in the history of fighting games. Striping every single song/theme of any personality was definitely brave. Personally Its not the choice I would have made, but ya super glad they took that chance.
@@RaiderzDefender These are all entirely new compositions. They're all built from the ground up for SF6. They aren't stripped down versions of old tracks. Anyway, people said a lot of the same stuff about SF3 and and the EX series when they came out. People didn't hear the old themes and had knee jerk reactions to them. I think these will grow on people.
I agree with you! I was listening to it with my eyes closed and i pictures a jet soaring through the clouds, surveying the airspace, ready for anything
It makes me imagine Guile fixing jets while staring at his crew in the distance, very Top Gun-like. I agree, it really does fit him. Also, people can just look at his cutscene when meeting him in WT. The horns fit him perfectly
I think what they aimed for most of all is for the OST to have a cohesive feel to it. A lot of SF6 is an answer to SF5s blunders and one thing that game lacked is a cohesive aesthetic. In terms of music there were absolute bangers in there and some total misses, but they were pretty much all totally different, now in 6, while they are more background-y you can really get the feeling of "yes, this is the SF6 soundtrack".
If anything; they're less background-y compared to sf5 where the all music had the same frequency through-out where as sf6 changes per round since it's adaptive. (Although Dee Jay, Dhalsim and Lily definitely feels more background-y, which isn't great imo)
@@user-tzzglsstle585e38 Wether it's dynamic or not doesn't really affect "backgroundyness" for me. SF6 songs don't really pump me up like Rashids theme from 5, the mood it gets me into is "concentration" rather than "hype". Which again is irrelevant from wether I like the songs or not. I'd say I like most of them, more than Max for sure (Gief, Juri and Marissas themes for example, really dig those), Guile, I don't like either, and Luke and Ken are just okay.
@@Ronin11111111 Rashid isn't the best example, because: 1) We have no idea about Rashid's SF6 theme, what if his theme will be no less banger(just in another direction) 2) Rashid, in context of SF5, was a freshyear, so even if his theme wouldn't be as banger as it is, it still would be a preety nice theme, because it's a NEW one(or because it's d'n'b. D'n'b is f'ing awesome) and has nothing to be compared with. But I get what you mean.
@@JokeboxMachine Yeah, fair. His theme is so good it always pops into my mind first when I think of banger 5 tracks, but both Ryu and Kens 5 themes have the same effect for me.
The thing about this soundtrack is that, with a few exceptions, I wouldn't put these on my music player to jam out to, but I'd LOVE to hear every single one over and over during gameplay as background music.
I really can't wait for the stage themes to be released, I think those could potentially sway peoples thoughts. Ranger Hut and the Paris stages in particular are some bangers if you listen in the Blanka VS JP and Marisa VS Manon videos
Cammy's theme feels cinematic. Like I get an "I've lost a lot, but I still have people to fight for" feeling early on Then near the end it feels like falling in a sense.
@Budgie Cat I completely disagree Arachnid, and overtrip are top tier rivaling 3rd strike imo. None of these sound like royalty free music. Like guile's theme and I can cue up overtrip or arachnid whenever I want. Because I've been jamming out to them. Max wasn't "just being nice" he was speaking the truth. I will agree that Chun's theme is mid, but not the OST as a whole. Maybe music, (much like any other art form) is subjective and however you feel about something not being memorable someone else might disagree with.
It can probably be said that music was probably not a main focus for Steeet Fighter 6, but the hip hop aesthetic and culture throughout the game and promotional material is something that I grew up with and appreciated seeing it first in Third Strike. I feel like with the music it takes elements of past games and themes and rework them to fit into a more modern scope if that makes sense.
Max using the phrase “young and hip”to describe a sound really sent me, man has a kid for a few years and is now 60 years old

As a Brazilian, I wanted to comment on Blanka's theme:
Not only they incorporate the airhorns, which was a staple of Brazilian funk for some time, they also incorporate some sounds that sound like Berimbau, which is a instrument mainly played in capoeira groups.
They really put the Brazil in Blanka this time.
Good shit.
🎉🎉🎉
Finalmente usaram funk pra faze alguma coisa q preste
I didn't know that he was supposed to be Brazilian.
They "put the Brazil in Blanka this time", but only in the theme, cause they made the actual character dress like a redneck from the US and walk like an idiot. Blanka was done dirty in SF6.
Salve
Dee Jay's theme suits him so well. Not only because he's Jamaican, but because his fighting stance has him dancing. And the dancing intensifies after he lands a combo. To him it's not a fight to the death, it's a vibe.
And because Dee Jay has these "Bro, just chill out and enjoy THIS moment" vibe
Im jamaican and i would have to say this is dee jays best theme yet. His original was more cuban then it was jamaican. The theme here isn't necessarily something you would here jamaicans listen too, but its more of, jamaican music made for ppl on vacay in jamaica. Its more tropical house then it is reggae/dancehall. Like justin biebers "sorry".
@@Bodega_dASH_Goteem Speaking of real world artists like Justin Bieber I could easily hear Sean Paul rapping over Dee Jay's theme!
No it's way too slow. It should be faster considering his style.
I hate DJ's theme as it is. But if you put in it 1.25 speed, it turns out to be one of the best in the game.
I am physically incapable of staying still when Jamie's theme comes on. The urge to groove is supernatural. I've never had a theme alone get me to try a character before but...dude.
Funk is unreal, good funk however, is supernatural
The buildup to 10:37 and the drop itself alone makes Jamie’s theme one of the best SF6 character themes in my opinion
The groove is simply too powerful 🪩
the fact that his idle stance has him bounce to the rhythm of his theme is a very nice touch especially at 3 drinks
I spent days, maybe weeks trying to get Potempkin to click with me despite the fact that I hate grapplers because Armor-Clad Faith is so sick.
21:32 Ryu's theme actually uses a lot of Japanese instruments, the Sho at the start, and a bunch of string instruments in the song itself
I think it having a bit of Mr.
@@BasicallyGoblinhe's finally like 3s ken

I think Jamie’s theme is the perfect fighting game theme. It sounds like a drunken bar fight in some classic kung fu flick. Also, it has that fighting game KICK that Luke’s theme lacks
Thing is Luke is the only one to have his theme return from SF5 and I would argue that his SF5 theme is slightly better, but I still like his remix theme even so.
they took luke’s 5 theme removed some elements and made it slightly worse it’s still decent though as for jamie’s its awesome
Jamie's theme also pairs incredibly well with the Sega Saturn game, Burning Ranger's theme.
The start of Jamie's theme almost sounds like the ghost buster's anyone else hear it?
@@akilcharles3473 Given SF6's troubled development, I wouldn't doubt they made Luke's SFV theme AFTER they made it for SF6.
The electronic sounds (new) along with the orchestra feel (classy) and haunting opposite tones (haunting) really makes it feel both new (sf6), classy (jp), haunting (as you said, he goes ham with the psycho power) and the almost 3 different music layers really make sense with his character, where he has that calculating, angry side to him which shows itself in the chaos that is on going. im extremely excited to see gameplay, especially good gameplay through both the eventual beta and the game release when i can play him myself.
in the begin of the song remember me to Prowler theme from Spiderman: into the spiderverse
JP's sounds like he wants to be a mako reactor.

To be fair here, this was far pre release so we didn't have the full picture
Still doesn't fit to be honest, it sounds very funky and energetic. Not at all peaceful.

Listening to the themes, I think the Ryu theme is probably supposed to be more of "travel" instead of "Japanese". That might be why it's a little jarring, but I think it definitely fits his character in terms of guiding someone into this new style of street fighter.
The part of the final round gives me more confidence and motivation to give the best and enjoy the battle 😊
Exactly. Ryu is Japanese but both at home and not at home anywhere in the world. He's the perennial vagabond/wanderer, less interested in culture than testing himself wherever the next fight is. I wouldn't expect his music to be overly Japanese.
Thought I'd jump in and say the name of the song "Viator" literally means a traveler so... You would be 100% right
Ryu theme bangs
I’m not a fan
It's a weird situation since the Dynamic tracks makes them much better experienced in actual gameplay than listening by themselves. I'll admit by themselves some can feel pretty lacking but I think they compliment the gameplay very well and the idea of each round having it's own version of the track is cool.
I do wish the "low health" variant would only kick in in rounds 2 or 3 though it does get a little tiring hearing the same section across each round as one players health gets low.
games like nier automata managed to do the dynamic music thing without making the songs dull....
Ken's, Ryu's and Jamie's themes all hit the spot for me. The bounce on Ken's theme really gives it the pop and personality.
I guess we're just talking prefference here

The best thing about Zangief’s new theme is that it feels EXACTLY like a pro wrestling entrance walkout song. I could see him walking out and posing while doing his normal walk animation towards the ring. The older versions of his song feel really off in comparison to this one.
I think his old songs leaned more into the big Russian man vibe. Sf5 transitions more to wrestler and now we're fully into wrestler vibe
I feel those violin chords have a "Russian Empire aristocrat" vibe. Like that tone of grandeur in Russian marches and Chaikovsky compositions.
Zangief's homeland isn't Russia, his homeland is GYM
The music is very, VERY different. However, I like the energy it brings. Definitely sets it apart and creates a unique atmosphere for the game. My favorite themes so far are Ken and Juri.

I really love Jamie's theme. The interplay and call/response of the funky elements with the disc scratching and other elements is a great blend and implementation.

When the critical track hits you go for vibing to "Ok enough, you little sh.."
Jamies theme really gives off Jackie chan/chris tucker rush hour vibes
Yun and Yang on the sax and trompette 😂😂
The themes are more character focused rather than battle focused in my opinion.
In sf5 everyone music made them seem like an incredible hero or diabolical villain. In sf6, the themes seem more like normal representations of the character's personalities.
Exactly my thoughts. More as in their personas and psyches instead of their fighting moods
It’s actually why I pretty regularly listen to their themes cause it is honestly really good imo.
Absolutely adored Zangief's theme. It's fun, it fits the character's origins, and it's modern

Bullshit
@sacre Satsui no Danzo
The new theme gives off the feeling of a mature and traditional martial arts master roaming in the modern age

one thing i love about ken's theme is how it uses his older leitmotif near the end which is something im not sure any songs do, it's kinda like "yeah he's older and more gruff and on the run, but it's still the same old ken" and i love that
Yeah there is a nice call back near the end.

It also shows he doesn’t forget where he came from with old instruments and flutes in the background.
Wow, Manon's theme is literally perfect. You see that character and her moves and this is the song that plays in your head.
*Perfect.*
- Guile
I agree with most of Max's sentiment, but the one thing he missed was the description for Marisa's theme which explicitly says it was supposed to invoke the feel of being in a colosseum with a large crowd and funnily enough he was still able to make that out.
Also he is probably right that Ryu's theme is the "SF6" theme, but I just interpreted it as him being done struggling with training and only thinking about fighting and now just wants to enjoy life which you could argue still represents Street Fighter 6.
I really like the Genbu Temple theme. The hip hop influence combined with the traditional instrumental brings the street in Street Fighter
the stage themes are tight, most of the criticism is against the character themes primarely it seems.
@@pixel_stream8245 Which is ironic cuz a lot of the complaints I see is that "this music doesn't hype my up, too calm" and something along those lines, yet most of the stage themes (like Genbu Temple) are quieter and less intense than the character themes.
@@pixel_stream8245 this.. the stages are actually fine.. the themes are trash tho
Amazing seeing you here, but I agree, in fact, of all of them, Jamie's theme is my favorite.
This is the kind of response I live for.
A lot of 3S songs are less melody focused, in a similar way. Hugo’s theme, ryu’s theme, makoto’s, Remy’s, Melodie’s that are either very short or almost nonexistent in favor of the beats
@@bengal2441 That's why I said almost. They're really de-emphasized compared to the classic street fighter songs
Ken has one of the best themes I’ve ever heard in a fighting game. It beautifully expresses going through hard times and struggles, but also the power to never give up and keep moving forward, it’s genuinely inspiring.
EXACTLY. I cant hear anyone else or picture anyone else wit Kens theme✊️😎

Interesting. For me, JP and Guile have the weakest themes, but I'll try to give them a listen from better audio sources.
Same, I hated chun-li, kimberly and JP's themes because they sounded so muddy and overcrowded, just amateurish, then I listened on my good headphones and they clicked. There's depth and layers to these tracks that gets lost on weaker equipment.

Same, between character design, theme and move animations, JP is easily my favorite newcomer.
He liked the JP theme. He just said the start made him uncomfortable
MK has an OST?
NRS music feels like it's barely there they need to get that MK2/3 energy back.
Mk9 has amazing ost actually
MK9 has a very good soundtrack, especially the final battle against Kahn on the rooftops in story mode.
I think Ken’s theme doesn’t fit him. I have to disagree with Max. It feels like lobby music.
I literally spent my whole week listening and dancing to it in my room when it came out
Same, that and Dhalsims

Jamie's theme being as good as it is, is utterly criminal. Gets me moving every time I hear it even now.
That's a very good point.
No. The music is incredibly generic. That's the issue. There's no association with the character because the music isn't memorable in the first place. I'm more than open to new themes but sf6 dropped the ball
Does not make it good.

I haven’t been able to get on it

originally i wasn't TOO keen on the soundtrack but the more i listened to it, as well as actually getting the game too really changed my views on the soundtrack as a whole. i think it's fantastic, definitely having the same overall hip-hop influenced techniques that games like third strike incorporated, but with a fresh modern spin on it.
i think the problem is that just a lot of people just dislike... change. and i agree, especially as an aspie, i despise any sudden changes to my schedule or routine... change sucks, but change by itself is not a bad thing. could you imagine the game having the exact same soundtrack style that street fighter ii had, even down to returning characters having their exact same themes still? it would be lame if capcom didn't actively change things up and having variation for every entry
a "bad" game soundtrack isn't defined by its genre, rather how it's presented, how much thought was put into the composition.. when it plays and what it symbolizes. an actual "bad" game ost would be harsh on the ears, like the stuff that actively makes you wince when you hear it. sf6's music is not that lmao

Ken's theme just sound like he lost his life reason, lost the motivation, but he still have a burning heart inside,so good
Yeah, it carries this sort of determination- which suits him now 👀
I actually think that Ryu’s theme fits him very well for where he’s at in Street Fighter 6’s story.
Fights are his way of testing himself and for the first time, he is able to have fun with them
Ruy just vibing, training, living his best life
This
I feel the same way.
This exactly, there’s a lot of rhythm and percussion but they mostly all lack any memorable melodies
They did that on purpose. Zelda Botw did the same thing, less melody and more of building an atmosphere
@@uzairgangat The problem is whether it fits in a fighting game or not. It works for some of these themes, but most of them feel like I wouldn't even recognize too well while playing.

So to me it fits 100%
But I feel that what lacks here is the oomph that usually fighting games have.

I do genuinely think this is the reason they’ve always kept Ryu homeless despite being nationally Japanese.
No. The theme is not ryu at all. Above all else it also just sounds generic and lifeless
@@goby1764 it doesn’t.the instruments and beats represent ryu reaching a certain peak in his journey
You are wrong
@@goby1764 It's the opposite of lifeless imo, it's so upbeat and joyful
Ryu's theme is one of the most disappointing for me. And it definitely doesn't fit him. There is nothing of Ryu in that theme.
It's called dynamic music. I agree it'll definitely sound better during actual matches
@@ADreamingTraveler Ahhh there we go; dynamic music! Thanks for the correction dude👍
In the Gief trailer when they synced his target combos to the beat of the song it made it very fun to listen to
I think if we judged these songs specifically the SF vets compared to their classics it is a little underwhelming.
Juri & Lily's themes are perfect for them. Some of the others don't reach the same standard but they aren't bad, just different.
Yeah Juri and Kimberly should have stayed hip-hop
but other fighters must have had a different music genre
Even those themes aren't recognizable though
@@axelmiramontes409 Kimberly?
I think your forgetting Kimberly’s theme
Not everyone themes should be hip hop focused doesent fit everyone ken juri included ken is a bit more jazz while juri is a bit techno
To me I feel the top tiers of the character themes are Manon and Zangief. It fits the character, it transitions well through rounds and it hooks you in.
Those are my mains.😊
I feel like the there are a few bangers but the thing that's throwing everyone off is... how relaxed the music sounds. It feels like everyone's chilling or vibing to most of their themes not fighting and it's off.
Ken's theme is most off . He literally fights with fire 🔥 and the track doesn't sound fire at all
They butchered the essence of Guile's themes two games in a row now. As a former Guile main back in SF4, I keep getting upset over it.
Gonna be honest. All sounds like royalty free beats. Stage themes are REALLY good tho
Cope
I think there's a few goods here, but also a lot of misses
Has identity to each character? Are you trolling?
Bro it doesnt, it just sucks no matter the context
What you're saying basically means "Current Guile sucks, he's a boring character with no tasks, so his theme song sucks as much as he does." I even agree with you, but that doesn't make the situation any better or Guile's theme song interesting.
Ken's theme gives me vibes of "I didn't give up before, I'm sure as hell Im not gonna do it now"
Like the feeling to make a comeback when you are at your lowest
Regarding Zangief's theme:
It really feels like a Pro wrestler's entrance music. The music fits perfectly to the new pro wrestler Zangief Capcom are trying to turn him into.
heh heh funni russian man.
Juri’s theme especially made me wonder if there’s plans to have an artist sing or perform over the track. I feel like a lot of them, hold the ones that have instrument solos, could do with some lyrics to send them the next level.
Idk it just gave me Terraria boss vibes more than anything lol
All of the ones apart from jamie's, Kimberly's and a few others sound too chill. Like loading screen music
Guile's is one of my favorites. It just emanates this sense of cool, calm, confidence.
Cammy’s theme is sublime!!! It hit’s slowly but then the pace hits so quick in a way that keeps you your toes!!!
Hers is one of the best absolutely, Lily’s is great too
Cammy’s is perfect because she’s apparently MI6 now, and the theme really sells it
It's a Legit Certified Good Classic
They use Juri's music as the waiting/hold music for Capcom Fighters streams and it fits really well as waiting music lol. Hard to say how it will actually sound mid match
almost every track in SF 6 is waiting music and it is bad
@@T--wk9oe lmao i was just thinking that. like music you play before your stream starts
Na jp theme is my favorite and others as well
And ironically enough the stage music sounds better than the themes.
I enjoyed Marisa's theme song because its starts off like you're being approached by the heaviest of footsteps, but then transitions into, oh you're not being approached by the footsteps, you are the footsteps. A real, here comes Goliath, theme
We know this conversation already. It's going to be enjoyed in the future. It's way to damn early for this.
I love Ken's theme to me it represents the struggle he's in trying to clear his name and save his family truly an amazing theme
@@RaiderzDefender way to show your bad Taste sf6 tracks bang
@@RaiderzDefender These are all entirely new compositions. They're all built from the ground up for SF6. They aren't stripped down versions of old tracks. Anyway, people said a lot of the same stuff about SF3 and and the EX series when they came out. People didn't hear the old themes and had knee jerk reactions to them. I think these will grow on people.
Ah I feel crazy for liking Guile's theme now. Feels like airforce man cutting through the sky in a jet. Got me to start listening to the other tracks
Exactly, not "Patriotically" American, but Militarily American, fitting Guile.
Exactly .. very militant
The booming drums are what did it for me. You aren’t alone.
My reaction to Guile theme song his hardcore fan:
Look what they've done to my boy 😢
They massacred it :(
JP's theme was my favorite by far, definitely gave that boss theme vibe. but was also just fun to listen to in it's own right
I was definitely not into it at first, but for some reason, I started to really dig it after a while
It needs more power like in the last bit. Too slow and doesn’t give any menacing vibe to me.
@@Ronin11111111 Rashid isn't the best example, because:
1) We have no idea about Rashid's SF6 theme, what if his theme will be no less banger(just in another direction)
2) Rashid, in context of SF5, was a freshyear, so even if his theme wouldn't be as banger as it is, it still would be a preety nice theme, because it's a NEW one(or because it's d'n'b.
The thing about this soundtrack is that, with a few exceptions, I wouldn't put these on my music player to jam out to, but I'd LOVE to hear every single one over and over during gameplay as background music.
really sounds like the kind of royalty free youtube editor music used to censor copyrighted music.
I really can't wait for the stage themes to be released, I think those could potentially sway peoples thoughts. Ranger Hut and the Paris stages in particular are some bangers if you listen in the Blanka VS JP and Marisa VS Manon videos
I hate having to watch the developer match to hear Barmaley Steelworks theme
Genbu temple stage theme slaps so hard to me it's got trap influences but it doesn't take it over
Agreed! The temple and Tiang Hong Yuan stage tracks are INCREDIBLE
Cammy's theme feels cinematic. Like I get an "I've lost a lot, but I still have people to fight for" feeling early on
Then near the end it feels like falling in a sense.
They needed to let cammys theme breathe. Too much of that distorted keyboard over the melody.
@Budgie Cat they said the same about older games ya know.
That was like the whole point of the video.
@Budgie Cat I completely disagree
Arachnid, and overtrip are top tier rivaling 3rd strike imo.
Jamie’s theme picking up as the song goes on longer matches with how he gets stronger as he drinks. I LOVE IT.
It even has a pause before it speeds up as if he is drinking
His matches never last long enough for it to kick in!
Ah yes... The Strive effect
