    Watching these are a joy. I guarantee you are happier than any billionaire out there just running your systems, thinking up ideas and testing your theories. Awesome!

      Thank you ! You’re right, it’s about simple things! My sons(6 & 11) are always out here learning right along with me, now that’s true blessing to me.

      @@Earthdwellershomestead yep. I’ll be doing some of that someday God willing. Living in Newport Beach now. Tired of the city life. Got 3 boys and all I do is hang out with them. Nothing better!

    If you block the air flow with your glove you are putting a load on your 12v fan that will decrease its lifespan, better to put the fan on a thermostat imho. Great video liked & subscribed👍

    I wonder if you had the compost in a giant metal galvanized bin (500- 1,000 gallon?) you could cover tightly and trap the gas and feed it safely to a pilot light and keep it lit without creating a bomb? Or something along those lines. I have a ton of spare lumber and material and want to build a green house in the next few months. Just brain storming for now. I've seen all kinds of ideas so far and I like your setup the best!

      Methane capture has been high on my list with all the composting we do. The methane capture system I am using hasn’t worked the best for a few reasons. Next winter I want to pull the methane from the top of the pile through a tarp or poly tarping, if I can harvest it as it pools at the top I should be able to accumulate much more than I’ve been able to. Your idea sounds interesting, I know there is a lot of buildings designed to harvest the heat and methane from compost. I’m sure something like your saying would work just fine as long as you fed the methane through a bubble system to avoid back burn to the pile itself avoiding the bomb situation lol. Thanks for the input and new ideas going forward!

    I was wondering would you be better of to create a series of metal ducts inside the greenhouse. and keep the warm air inside the duct in a closed loop. you would need to have series of fans inside the system.

      Almost like an infrared heater is designed ? That’s interesting, for heat transfer, we circulate the air in the greenhouse pretty good through this pipe though it’s non perforated so we’re pushing inside air through (heating it up) sending back in the greenhouse and not exchanging gasses or anything but heat. Interesting though you had though. Thanks for getting me thinking

    I'd probably suggest planting a shit ton of snake plants in there to increase oxygen production to increase the efficiency of the plants in photosynthesis.

      thats not a bad idea at all. in the middle of winter to come out on a sunny day and sit in there with all the plants is super refreshing in itself, my wife calls them mother in law tongues lol

    Sorry. First video of yours I've watched so if you have covered this elsewhere forgive me. Can I ask why your compost heap isn't inside your greenhouse? You have more than enough space for it?

      The rodents are the main reason, c02 and methane are other reasons. We’ve composted inside the greenhouse last year and it was catastrophic with rodents eating crops and leaving waste everywhere. We did lots of experiments with this kinda stuff and the compost should be outside unless it’s in a well contained and covered hot bed. Great question! I have stated this a few times is previous videos because I feel it’s important to avoid failure or Illness, and it’s a FAQ

      And I'm assuming this isn't an issue a cat wouldn't have solved, and still reap the benefits of the extra warmth? I'll grant you I'm not in as much of a rural area as you appear to be, so my cats are more than plenty to keep rodents away

    • @Earthdwellershomestead
      @Earthdwellershomestead  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Coyotes are prevalent in the middle of winter, if anything is outside it has to have a fence and a sturdy home, I wouldn’t want the cat using the bathroom in the soil and such either, cause that’s a method I’ve thought of. We had pretty darn good success with this Jean pain heating this winter as the pile was able to be much larger also since it was outside. If you look back a year ago on the channel we were trying to do smaller piles over and over for heat but they drew quite a bit of rodents once they realized we had a steady compost pile running inside. We’ve learned a lot by experimenting over the years

    Is the compost pile of wood chips used only to create the heat for the green house -- or does it continue to break down and can be used for compost?

    • @Earthdwellershomestead
      @Earthdwellershomestead  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Great question! As the woodchips create a good fungal compost we use it all over our three acres, all of our berries shrubs and fruit trees love to be top-dressed with this compost. As we inoculated the pile with nitrogen we sped the breakdown/heating up for heat in the greenhouse but by the time summer is here we will have several tons of food for the land. We also spread it to create new beds where we place cuttings and new food forest plants!
