Was God as gracious in the Old Testament as the New Testament? - Pod for Israel

  • Many see God in the Old Testament as full of wrath and anger, and then see Jesus as the nice guy who shows mercy. But that couldn't be further from the truth! God is the same yesterday today and forever, and as we look at the whole narrative of the scriptures we see Mercy and Judgement in both Testaments. It's important to get a proper view of God's ways as Moses prayed in Exodus 33:13, "Teach me your ways so I may know you and continue to find favor with you."

The God of the Old Testament was as loving and merciful as the God of the New Testament.
He loved even the enemy of Israel, so much that Jonah was angry with Him showing mercy to the people of Nineveh.

Who glorified Jesus? 13 The God of Abraham and of Isaac and of Jacob, the God of our forefathers, has glorified his Servant, Jesus, whom you handed over and disowned before Pilate, even though he had decided to release him. 14 Yes, you disowned that holy and righteous one, and you asked for a man who was a murderer to be given to you, 15 whereas you killed the Chief Agent of life. But God raised him up from the dead, of which fact we are witnesses.

@@sarahb9377 He didn't contradict himself, he said the only reason Moses said an 'eye for an eye' is because of the anger in the hearts of the Israelites. Most of these laws were to be effective until after Jesus came. I can't remember why but when Jesus came a lot changed because the covenant had been fulfilled. And most of those laws were cultural laws not moral laws. Yeshua did not tell the Israelites to violate women, Moses did. After all with what the bible says about sex outside marriage it seems unlikely.

This is an exciting new spiritual insight discussed in your One for Israel podcast. Verily, God never changed. He is the same yesterday, today and forever.
But here's my thought about this matter. God's plan for Israel and the gentiles was only one. Through out the entire biblical backdrop, God has intended to dwell and fellowship with man in a relational and intimate way.And for man to revere Him in the true form and spirit of worship. All the ordinances of God given to Israel thru Moses were the representations of the spiritual things to come, which found all its fulfillment in Christ. But Israel's religious leaders rejected the visitation of the Messiah, in Jesus (Yeshua) despite all the signs of wonders and miracles He performed. The religious leaders did not to take seriously the prophecies written in the Scriptures about the Messiah. They all knew He was Him, from Herod down to the religious leadership. But they were afraid of being replaced, and they were terrified. So they plotted to kill the Messiah. They thought that if God's power was with Yeshua, he would surely use it to save his life by show of force. Then they would believe in him. But God's thoughts are not their thoughts and God's ways are not their ways. It was God's purpose that the Messiah would suffer and to offer himself as a once-for-all guilt sacrifice, the final consumation of all sacrificial offerings in the temple. Not only to intended for all Israel but for all the gentiles as well. That would be a very bad idea for the religious establishment and temple services. That was why the priests, scribes and rabbis across sectarian groups found a common ground to vehemently reject the Messiah and his followers, until today. And so the gospel of Christ had to come out of Jerusalem, because of such rejection. And the message of salvation of Christ was to be preached to the ends of the earth. Thanks to the Lord's choice of the twelve apostles and later on to Saul of Tarsus, salvation has indeed come to the gentile world. Now it is time for the message of salvation of the Jewish Messiah to go back home to be preached to Jerusalem for the salvation of all Israel.
On the concept of conversion in Christ, that is, the spiritual conversion defined and referred to by the Lord Jesus himself as for a man to be "born again." A spiritual miracle that occurs when one encounters Jesus, and who acknowledges one's sinfulness before God, by accepting His Son Jesus (Yeshus) as Lord and Savior ,who died for one's sins, and who rose again to life as proof of the Messiah's victory over sin and death. He is now our high priest, our intercessor to our Father God in Heaven. As Paul wrote, "in Christ, all things are new creation, old things passed away, behold all things are new."

Yes, repentance isn't from sin, it is toward God. It is from unbelief to belief, it's just changing your mind and believing God. You are the holy of holies now. We do not have an adulterous heart. God gave us a new heart and a new spirit, it is only our mind that needs to be renewed. God is always full of mercy and grace, but Love can't leave you in a state that will cause you harm. We are children, and we fall down and get hurt, but He gently picks us up and comforts us. Our Father is so good, and so gracious that He even uses our mistakes for our good. 🙏 ✝️❤️ Grace and peace to you all

I always had this question. The Jewish Pharisees helped in the persecution and crusifiction of Jesus by going to the romans. Why is it that most of those who subscribe to Judaism reject Jesus Christ as the messiah? Yet they believe their messiah has not come yet, and are in the process of building the temple to usher in their coming messiah. Can you explain to me why so many Christians are blind to the fact that most Jews I talk with think this way.

I’ve often thought that if I could explain why God did this or that, then what kind of God could He be? If my puny, human mind could completely understand Him, why in the world would I want to trust, serve, honor, believe in Him? When people ask “How could God allow ____ to happen?”, and use that to not believe in Him (my father being one of those), I think, well, I can’t answer, I wonder about that myself, but He is infinitely wiser than I am.

we are not just made in God's image, we are also in his likeness.... people that have children (and people without) will understand that they want a safe world for their children, they want their child to have a healthy diet and securety, these thing God also wants for us (his children), we might be ableto find some things about God by looking at the law of Moses, but Jeremiah 31:31-34 is more about knowing our likeness and thus knowing God's likeness, knowing what morals we have inside of us is knowing the likeness of God and is the begining of knowing God.

God is the same yesterday, today, tomorrow and forevermore. The only difference between the old and the new is that during the time of Moses, God the Almighty was physically present among His people. When we say God is physically present, it also means that His Holiness comes with Him as HE is Holy. His Holiness would by nature consume anything unholy in His Presence. Thus, the tabernacle was designed in such a way that the holiest place was not openly accessible to everyone otherwise people would be consumed since by nature people are unholy. You also must remember that there was an event that happened among Israelites when there were these protesting Israelites who succumbed to death as they approached the tabernacle, and to prevent this from happening again, God the Almighty instructed Moses to put the staff of Aaron in front of the Ark of the covenant so that God's holiness would stay in that place and would not go out to the people. In the New Testament, the presence of God is not physically with us. So there is no consuming fire to begin with . His mighty presence was with our Lord Jesus in the flesh only. What we have is the Spiritual presence of our Lord. What is ever awesome and wonderful about it is that Christ's holiness and righteousness is imputed in us. It's like the staff of Aaron to be presented before the Ark. So, as we believe in Christ, we carry His Holiness and His righteous, and God the Almighty sees that instead. Then, we are saved from His wrath. We don't deserve this very very special kind of privileged which is why it is called grace.

It bothers me when people say Christianity is a different religion. It’s the fulfillment of the OT. It’s believing in the Messiah that was promised throughout the whole OT. So it’s really Judaism fully fulfilled. Yeshua was the last perfect sacrifice. Nothing comes after.
The devil helping Islam rise up is one of his greatest actions. That took billions of people away from Yeshua.

The answer to your question can be found in a study of the epistle to the Hebrews. And also, Galatians for that matter. Certainly, there is nothing wrong with the old covenant but it did fall short. The key word now is, ‘BETTER’. The new covenant is ‘better’. Better hope, better covenant, better sacrifices, etc. Now we have substance over shadow. Now we have the true, heavenly tabernacle over earthly temporal. Now we have an eternal High Priest with a better sacrifice and an eternal intercessory ministry. Perfect, one-time sacrifice to make those who come, perfect. For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and goats should take away sins. (Ref Heb. 10:1-4)
Adolph Saphir - himself a converted Jew - writes “Though deprived of the temple, with its priesthood and alter and sacrifice, the apostle reminds the Hebrews, ‘we have’ the real and substantial temple, the great High Priest, the true alter, the one sacrifice, and with it all the offerings, the true access into the very presence of the Most Holy.”
Paul says there are now three categories of peoples. 1Cor 10:32 …Jew…Greeks…church of God. Those of us in Christ are no longer Jews or Greeks or German, Chinaman, American... Our citizenship is now literally in the heavenlies.

By that logic, we would have to assume that the entire Old Testament is a lie because it existed before the time of Jesus. Sometimes we are so obsessed with the words, that we miss the message. God expressed tremendous grace throughout the Old Testament. Jesus was the personification of God’s perfect Grace and Truth. Grace and Truth as a person does not mean that grace and truth did not exist before He came. It means that He was the perfect human and God expression of grace and truth.

From the word 'go' Amighty God has been leading His people to the highest science the universe possesses. For a lost and awkward tribe that wasn't easy. God had to stick to His own code of behaviour which is righteousness and the only other alternative is tyranny and oppression from bodies of people who will enslave us, abuse us, lead us into all sorts of distress and leave us tired, exhausted, genetically suffering from many illnesses with no concern for our right of existence. This has been proven over and over again. Jesus Christ/Yeshua is another stepping stone into that science, in fact, he is that science made flesh. The crux of that science is that Almighty God is the figurehead over all that science...His Living Waters pervades space in superabundance and though it is invisible and undetectable it is very active in all our daily lives. It made stara and atoms and all sciences so we know it includes us, our genetics, and our own ability to orchestrate the healthy replication of the living cells in our body if we have faith and endurance in that science. It's all preparing us for the last phase in God's plan...everlasting life in a paradise Earth...A new Earth with a new universal science that we won't be prepared for if we have no righteousness in us.

Perhaps readers should read Ge:1-3 and Re:20-22 and use that as a summation for who God in Ge:1:1 is where this earth came from, where it is now and where it will end up
The rest of the Bible is dedicated to the setting up and the completion of the two bruises from Ge:3:15. There is no 'OT' and NT when the death of Jesus was the completion of the bruise to the heel of the seed of Eve. When Jesus pours out the 7 vials that will be the completion of the bruise to Satan's head.
The OT/NT split makes even less sense when you consider John the Baptist was an OT Prophet and that would make the Disciple who wrote the Gospel of John the Baptist and the Revelation of John the Baptist as OT as John was as they never became an Apostle. The extermination of the 6 fingered people will be how Jesus deals with all sinners, angelic and from the ranks of mankind.
God was showing Christ how to do certain things that are part of the 7 vials. The plagues of Moses will be repeated as the 7 vials. The fire at Sodom is the fire Jesus will use on Satan's Babylon for a period of 1 hour. Even the resurrection from the grave was shown to Christ in the OT and to Jesus in the NT Gospel.
    Joh:5:19:
Then answered Jesus and said unto them,
    Verily,
    verily,
    I say unto you,
The Son can do nothing of himself,
but what he seeth the Father do:
for what things soever he doeth,
these also doeth the Son likewise.

Then why did Jesus say your law twice, once in John 8 and also in John 10. Why did Jesus say Moses was their accuser in John 5:45-47? Why did he say Abraham didn't try killing anyone, like the Pharisees were trying to kill him? The Abraham story is about him nearly cutting his son's throat. Why does Matt 7:12 cite the golden rule, then SUMS (up the law =37 285 335 = 537 78 33 = 15 15 33 = 6 6 6) and the (prophets = 79678521 = 96785217 = 151515 = 666.

Honestly, the only people who claim the Old Testament God and the New Testament God are different are people who have never read the whole Bible. You can not read the old testament without seeing God's grace and mercy, just like you can not read the New Testament without seeing God's judgements and punishments...also He is perfect throughout. He loves what is good and hates what is bad throughout. God stepped into His own creation and showed us what we are to do. He made a way and a path for us...by being a living example and being the ultimate sacrifice. I'm blown away by Him, He is magnificent. Glory to God forever.

When the Messiah told them they erred in the SCRIPTURE, not knowing the SCRIPTURE. There was no other scripture for them to know except the OT.
The NT did not exist yet. It wasn’t written until years after our Messiah resurrected.
      The NT is the OT.

The confusion is the fault of the translators. They never should have divided the book in to two parts. The Old Testament & The New. I hope they didn't do that on purpose.

    • @waynegabler6570
      @waynegabler6570 4 ปีที่แล้ว

The translators only did the HebrewOT and GreekNT into a common language we find in the 1611KJV Holy Bible. We should accept they were experts so the translation is as close to flawless as possible.
It is the reader that is supposed to created doctrine out of the words they read. The books listed after Daniel were written before Daniel so 'somebody' changed the order and in this case it helps as the 12 Books only have prophecies that cover what we call, 'the return'.
Today 'the whole Church' cannot correctly identify who wrote the Gospel of John and the Revelation of John so their assessment on what the books promote is not what you would refer to as 'solid doctrine' by any stretch of the imagination.

Romans 11,14 I want to make people of Israel jealous of what you gentiles have, so I might save some of them.
Remember when God said"on those days I will go to the gentiles"
Only Satan wants us to be confused so that people will stay away from the truth.

This is not a fault. There's a reason why it's divided. Because the New Testament is exactly that, a New Testament, of a New Covenant. The old has passed away, and we are now under a new law, the law of Christ (Hebrews 8:13). Does that mean all the moral laws in the OT are abrogated? No, but Christ fulfilled (COMPLETED), and superseded the OT laws with the complete story, namely, by fulfilling it with his own life and His body that he gave for us. This is how God chose to reveal himself to us, he progressively reveals a more complete picture of His salvation plan through human history.
