- We have spent a lot of time classically conditioning Blue and letting him offer behaviors in order for him to really understand the behaviors We want him to repeat. So now it’s time to put some of them to test while on the road. We have applied a few techniques in this video but mostly we are applying distance with a distraction to teach Blue to control his impulse to release himself for a reward.
Try this game at home. Take an empty food bowl and place it own the middle of a room. Put your dog in a sit and walk away. Drop a training treat or kibble in the bowl so your dog can see you and hear the food drop in the bowl. Walk back to your dog and release it. You can release when the dog is looking at you or when it is looking at the bowl. Both have their pro’s and con’s.
Good luck, have fun, and remember.. Keep your training purposeful and your dog is always learning a lesson. So make every lesson a good lesson.
** DISCLAIMER ** There are lots of different ways to train a dog and there is no one way to train a dog. Some ways are better than others while other techniques are less successful. Our goal is to share our experience, not to point out the only and best way to train dogs.
