Guys.... you have no idea how you are helping me in one of my challenge years of my life. Depression have knocked my door, and your music is getting me the strength to continue. Thank you for your existence.
For real man, so much pre-pro. I mean just think about the on-set music track for her to sync to... it has to all match up in the final edit of course, so it's got to be timed out to account for the ramps and hitting marks, etc. "Simple" and cheap (and smart!) idea for a music video, but the more you think about it, the more you realize how difficult it is to execute this well.
@@adamkoepke1366 Well, it's not necessarily shot at 24fps, but whatever frame rate they used, they shot the entire thing with the same frame rate. That's the trick. You have to know in advance where, when, and how much you want to ramp things in the edit because it's going to change the timing of how it matches up to the song in the edit. The unedited footage is no doubt much longer than what we see in the final video. The music track used on set for her to sync her vocals is probably the trickier bit (not sure lol, I'm still deciding). Since it's audio, it was sped up or slowed down, extended, manipulated, etc. ahead of time. In other words, she's hearing it on set already sped up and slowed down and whatever else. That allows her to adjust her lip sync in real time, and when the FOOTAGE of her singing faster or slower is adjusted in the edit, it gives the effect that she's singing "normal" speed, even though everything around her isn't. Does that answer your question?
@@daedalus_20v I think so! Thank you! I work in the video and photo production world but haven't ever had to do any speed ramping so I've always been curious about it. I always assumed they would do takes at their final export fps rate and then do full takes at their predetermined slowed down and sped up frame rates. But especially with this looking like a one take video unless they're doing a hell of a job with somehow hiding these cuts, I can't really wrap my head around how they did this.
@@adamkoepke1366 mind bending! - Im thinking they probably shot it at something like 48-60 fps and the audio track she lip synced too was ramping between half time or double time or dropping back to normal speed etc where they had the speed ramps planned for the video... incredibly well executed, getting the dancers in and out of frame and lighting que's... so good

So I haven't really seen someone talk about the fact that The Fear of Fear is essentially a concept EP in the fact that all the songs have similar themes and are self-referential. Keep in mind that this is all my own interpretation and I could be wayyyyy off. I think The Fear of Fear is the story about someone stuck in some kind of cycle, either metaphorically or literally. In this case, I view it as a cycle of immortality, or a cycle of different iterations of the same person. The reason for this is all of the different Courtneys crawling in The Fear of Fear, as well as the doubled up Courtneys in the same video, the mirrors in Jaded/Angel Eyes. The crimson key and mirrors play a huge role in this immortality. The crimson key is the representation of whatever keeps starting the cycle of death and rebirth over, and I think the reason it's shown at the end of Cellar Door is all of those Courtneys are at the ends of their cycles, and the key is either starting it anew or the literal key to ending the cycle--"I turn my key into my burial". The reason the song is called Cellar Door is because this person is trapped in the same cycle--"Close the loophole". She also feels stagnated or pained in this cycle, which is there the cycle could be more metaphorical, like a literal fear of fear or the cycles get into when they're afraid of doing something--"I can't live in this world while I breathe in another one". The constant imagery of the mirrors is another representation of the different Courtneys. Courtney wants to shatter or break the mirror to end the cycle, as in Angel Eyes--"This time I break the mirror when I die / An hourglass inside my mind / Turn it once to touch the sky (referring to the key ending the cycle)." Courtney breaking the mirror is killing the concept of different iterations and the idea of the cycle. Ultraviolet is after she has broken the mirror and managed to turn the crimson key or break the cycle, and it's her final iteration--"This is the last time I am waking up". This is her way of accepting mortality or accepting the struggle the cycle has put her into and moving on from it. The outfit she is wearing is reflecting the fact she has shattered the mirror, and the different people in the video grabbing her are the people who still want her to stay alive. At the end, she accepts death and is seen laying on the ground. That, or the way the video starts the same way as it ends is a representation of the cycle repeating itself. Anyways, this was hella long-winded. Please give me your other interpretations because there was a lot I didn't list here. TLDR, The Fear of Fear is some of their best work.
Great cinematics, love how there was some sludgy djent mixed in towards the end there. I can't put my finger on exactly what it is but I love how yalls music has this nostalgic feel to it while remaining very modern. Excited to listen to the full EP

I tell you all, this song will be unbelievable like the others. More seriously, this group is truly incredible, they never disappoint and every song they do is a banger or even a masterpiece.
This is one of those songs where I have to stop myself from listening to it on repeat because it's just so beautiful 🫠
Spiritbox & Versa Films collaboration are always my favorite. The imagery is impactful and always fits the mood perfectly.
This song is just gorgeous. It just captures you. Courtney’s vocals are second to none. Her lower register is just astounding, and she is slowly letting us hear her higher range, and her head voice. Really enjoying this new music.
Incredible. I really feel like Spiritbox are reaching their final form -- this EP is a perfect blend of heavy and melodic and ambient and emotional and it absolutely rips
They’ve been a band for 6 years . They’re literally just getting started. Enough with the dragonball z final form bs.
lol ok bro. they were in IWABO since 2013 so they've been creating music together for WAY longer than that. enough with the unwarranted toxicity bs @@tronlorne9328
This is a perfect blend of their old stuff and eternal blue. Glad they didnt keep going with that rotoscope sound, was not a fan.
@@TheAbandonedAccount7 Haha, that's too bad. Rotoscope reminded me of industrial bands, like Garbage. That's why I like Spiritbox - they are willing to try anything and still make it awesome.
God, I love this band so much. They've never made a bad song, never made a bad anything. Always visually perfect, always musically interesting and unique...I'm just so happy when they drop new things.
Continues to show how diverse and talented they are. This really showcases artistic composition that crosses genre borders. Well done. Spiritbox is truly on another level. Thank you for sharing your music. Love it !!
Between Spiritbox and Sleep Token, Blessed Be the 2020's :'D
@@TheDSasterX Would that not be a great Double Bill? Sleep Token and Spiritbox are two of the most creative bands out there at the moment. Not no cookie cutter s$#@!!
@@scottnixon9236 My guy, that's what I've been hoping for since before they even started to blow up! Could you just imagine? That would be a great day to die lol. They're really just artists in a world full of brands.
I love how it's not just about releasing music for the sake of music with Courtney and the guys. Spiritbox is about a cascade of sound and emotions. A storytelling experience meant to be heard, seen, and felt. 🤘🤘🤘
Yessss! I agree
This song has been on repeat for me for the past two weeks. I can’t get enough. It is absolutely beautiful
Insane this band has written so many masterpieces. One after another.
Visually, lyrically, musically, this is absolute ART. thank you to all involved for this beautiful imagery 🖤🤘🏼
Courtney, your vocal range is awesome!
I don't even care that you're the best metal screamer ever. You could do a Mariah Carey album for fun.
So glad I found this band, the range in Courtney's voice is incredible.
She's so fucking metal man!!! My favorite female vocalist. Her range is insane but yet when she screams she looks so calm. Sings like an angel screams like a demon.
I'm going to break the illusion for you. This was recorded in a studio and she's not actually singing in the music video. Same for most music videos.
@@samkaeppel1160 haha i know I'm just saying in general she's just great lol
@@samkaeppel1160she still sounds great when she is live soooo why does this matter?

Guys.... you have no idea how you are helping me in one of my challenge years of my life. Depression have knocked my door, and your music is getting me the strength to continue. Thank you for your existence.
A single long shot! All the speed ramping. I can’t imagine how much planning and rehearsal this required. 👏👏👏
@@daedalus_20v how are they going about speed ramping to match 24fps or slow mo to match a track at 24fps?
- Im thinking they probably shot it at something like 48-60 fps and the audio track she lip synced too was ramping between half time or double time or dropping back to normal speed etc where they had the speed ramps planned for the video... incredibly well executed, getting the dancers in and out of frame and lighting que's... so good
this song is absolutely incredible. by far my favourite spiritbox song, and i've been a fan since before eternal blue. the vocal layers on the second "dream i die" during both choruses send me to space every single time. and the slight variation in the guitar line on the second chorus... man.
Blessed be the day whenever Spiritbox releases a new song/music video.
This saved me
Wow. Beautiful song and video.
The melodic greatness in this song is beautiful what a song
Ugh the chorus melody is soooo good
Wow the video was shot in one take! Incredible 🖤
You already know this video is going to be epic because Dylan and his Versa Films crew made it!!🤘
err... no.
@@asscher10 it's way better than bunch of CGI crap. I'm not against CGI stuff but the music videos are over saturated by those nowadays. So it feels great to see something different for once. Also I'm admiring the art of the artist who made a one take music video. Knowing how much work goes behind a music video like this, it's admirable!

Her choreography is always on point in the music videos.
Crying my eyes out over such perfection. Courtney and Spiritbox as a whole.. Has made my life significantly better. Existing at the same time as them is such an honor. And this one-take music video.. There are not enough words to express how outstanding everyone did that was involved.
Beautiful
What a beautiful song!! Spiritbox don’t miss! Also great video, compliments the music perfectly.
I felt so emotional listening to that. I loved the ambience. Makes me wanna bawl my eyes out fr
SAME
They have a good amount of songs I'd say 5-10 that have unmatched emotion and they are truly just SAD but so beautiful. This gets added to that list for sure
Spirit box is absolutely one of the most iconic metal bands in history now.
Theres many things id like to erase from my existence, but this? I'll absolutely keep.
Dylan Hryciuk and Versa Films are back! I can't wait to see the storytelling in this closing song. What a ride!
This character has quickly become a icon. Solidification of appreciation.
Holy shit, new spiritbox AND silent planet at the same time? The metal gods have blessed us today, we eatin good today boys and gals!
i can't really explain exactly why this makes me cry, but this is very special. those last couple of seconds are indescribably cruel, but absolutely real.
My favorite track on the EP no contest! It’s an absolute beautiful song in every way. The end is especially making me emotional. This is just pure poetry in its best form. Thank you spiritbox for blessing my life with your music.
I love heavy Spiritbox, mixed bag Spiritbox, and chill melodic make you cry Spiritbox. This song and video is quickly becoming one of my absolute favorite from SB. The execution of the music video by Versa Films is phenomenal! This song is beautiful and gives me chills.
Happy Spiritbox day🎉🎉we are so blessed to have this band in our lives
I'm so happy to be a spiritbox fan. You don't understand how much I love this band. Courtney, Mike, Josh, and Zev are such talented and amazing people. Outstanding job on this video. HELL outstanding job on EVERY video that you guys released for this EP. I just love it. This made me cry. I love it when a song makes me cry because I can just feel the emotion. The art in the dancing and movement and everything just goes great with the song. Spiritbox you guys done it again. Thank you so much
“In my dreams all I see is a crimson key, tethered by a falling strings meant to turn in the lock for me.”
“I can see it shining through the trees, a reflection of the crimson key.”
LOVE the story telling ❤
the light change and arrangement at @2:12 is the highlight of the song 😍 what i love most about spiritbox is their versatility and there’s always exciting surprises every new release!!
i love the fact that cellar door's courtney is a dark version of ultraviolet's courtney. the crawling scene give me goosebumps!!
Her vocal is very beautifull...she is not just a metal vocalist but also a great a pop singer...❤❤❤
Courtney, you're a beautiful angel. Keep doing what you love and we will support you and the band always.
I think we should all take a moment to appreciate all the people who helped put this amazing video together! All one shot with perfectly lip synced speed changes and great coreography? This must have taken sooo many takes to get the perfect one we get to see here!
Was just about to say the timing and syncing of the slow motion to fast motion to real time speed was very very intriguing!!! It needs more recognition!!
Is it all just one take? I've only watched once and wasn't paying much attention to that aspect (the audio and visuals are so beautiful!), guess I'll have to force myself to watch it again oh noooo 😂

That remix came out of nowhere. Gotta give props to Megan Thee Stallion for bring in Spiritbox to collaborate with her song Cobra

this makes me feel like i’ve lived 300 past lives w a particular someone who i haven’t spoken with in years. and he broke my heart and soul. in a way courtney is at a point in her life where she no longer wants that life, the past, but she will always love them. she wants it to stop but… this is just beautiful and so bittersweet. thank you spiritbox for creating such beautiful art. and making me feel things again 🥺🫶
great song, great visuals
People hearing Spiritbox for the first time who go looking for more after listening to this are going to be in for a shock
Honestly the whole EP is an exercise in whiplash and I absolutely love it
That alternate version of Too Close/Too Late chorus near the end!. I love it when bands or artists do that thing in an album or even throughout different albums in their career. It's like watching a movie sequel or reading novels.
People who cry about how heavy a song is are the worst. Like Jesus, I love heavy metal but it doesn’t ALWAYS have to be screaming.
Yea it does shut up.
The lyrics are bloody beautiful. Elite level song writing.
The range from this to "cellar door" n "Mara Effect" is why I love you guys! You'll keep being astounding, and I anxiously wait for more! Love ya guys!
Seeing how the lyrics evolve to tell the story throughout this ep is soooo satisfying. This is my favorite song off the whole project. I’ll dream of some spiritbox shoegaze in the coming year.
this song had me crying at 8am
Fantastic!! I've listened to the entire fear of fear. Personally my favorite piece of musical art. Heavy is heavy, melody and vocal range is insane, and I love the concept. Don't hear that anymore much. Love it 💯 Happy Spiritbox day!!🎉🎉🎉

We already got super heavy Cellar Door and all rounder Jaded, so I'm calling this one to be on the chiller side, maybe like Rotoscope or Secret Garden. Any way they go, it's gonna be awesome though!
I don't think so because based on the track list, the song that came before Ultraviolet is The Void. Anyway, we will find soon enough

Thank you. This makes so much sense
Whole EP slaps, Angel eyes is so fkn good! 🔥
