I can't believe how dirty the oil was in that first compressor! I've seen cleaner oil come outa compressors over 50 years old and been worked hard their whole life!
Manganese brother I too was interested in what they are made of so i did some chemical testing, and manganese is present along with aluminum. The scrapyard still call them brass alloy. as its such a horrible reaction I send all silver plug ends to scrapyard . I too have had a week of chest infection passed on by the school. A shame there wasn't more copper to be had out of that lot. I suppose aluminium's alright. I'm not sure what that, 'brass', was. It certainly looked like it when it was molten with the usual white smoke and yellow residue you get from vaporising zinc, but it was far too brittle when cast to be the real deal. I do excavating, construction, and demolition for a living. I get lots of scrap per year that I'm seriously considering a metal foundry. I've watched your channel for years and I'm about to make the leap. I just hauled off $1200 in scrap tin/iron in my dump truck last week. I get 200-300lb of copper per year, lots of aluminum, and 50+/- lb of brass per year all free from remodeling and demolition during the colder months. I have to ask myself, why not melt the non-ferrous metals down into beautiful ingots?
