    Had the same story with the heater. The control valve was rusty piece of garbage and had dead circulation motor
    Replaced it with used factory one from E39 with low mileage and that did the job
    Before than, it was heating up, but only if you let the engine rev up to at least 3000 rpm. But worked only at the 32 degrees on the climate control.
    Also, one of the E38s you showed, that had 95 style wheels, not sure if you noticed, but it was equipped with ACC - automatic crouise goddamn control. This option was rare AF.

      Dude! Great eye, I have no idea how I missed it! You're 100% right - this option is rare AF and I really wish I had it. I'll try to spot this car again and take a close look.

      To be honest, I regret selling my 740d, but I bought it too neglectet to ot be worthy restoring it.
      So was looking for a better one back in Ukraine. There was two with ACC, but one had paper issues so I decided not to take a risk and another one was too close to a front line...But fun fact, both of them had ACC failure due to radar in bumber has old rusty wiring
      Now I have E39 530d touring with 6spd manual, but willing to sale it and buy a V8 e38... GOD I miss that sound@@adamflower1715

    I want to take my E38 out on the road where it belongs, after I repair what it needs. It's also Orientblau like the last one you showed, but better equipped since it's a 750i (not loaded though).

    • @E34Benzin
      @E34Benzin ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@adamflower1715 My pleasure.😁
      No, the car in the video isn't a 750i. You can tell because the door trim in the B pilar section has a sort of chrome mirror effect in the V12s which isn't present in the rest of the E38s. The front grille is also different with extra chrome for the 750.
      The 750s have some special details (also in the interior) that weren't available with the other engines, no matter how well equipped they were.
      My '98 750i has much less equipment than your 740d, which are tipically fully loaded. Mine doesn't even have heated seats or sunroof, but it comes standard with hinged backrest comfort seats, extra wood trim in the seat backs, extended leather, double glazing, wooden rear ashtrays, wooden reading lights and extra footwel lights, etc.

    I used to have a gasoline 1994 740i as a winter beater for a long time. Drove my e24 in the summer. Then changed places in storage with the E38 every autumn and spring. The E38 did really well in winter. Also loved the heated seats. And also looked foward to enjoying the m60 v8 again. Pity i had to sell both a few years ago. Now driving a e39 528i on all season tires 😅. Not complaining though lol.

       @marekhaek6757 Zanim ja kupiłem swoje 740d przeglądałem ogłoszenia ze wszystkimi E38 przez około 3 lata. Co jakieś pół roku są momenty, że zobaczysz ze 2-3 sztuki dostępne na sprzedaż jednocześnie. Warto znaleźć takie, w którym trochę jest do zrobienia i potem to powoli robić element po elemencie. Najważniejsze jest to, że jak coś zrobisz porządnie to masz spokój na lata i naprawdę możesz tym na aucie polegać. Tylko to jest przeciwieństwo tego co robi Adam, bo on po prostu jeździ zepsutym. Na początku lepiej, żebyś miał inne auto do jeżdżenia. 740d generalnie nie ma dużo, ale na pewno warto się zainteresować, bo to lepszy i solidniejszy samochód niż W211 400CDI czy A8 4.2 TDI. W220 400CDI nie można nawet brać poważnie, bo co z tego, że silnik ze skrzynią jest solidny jak dzwon, ale reszta tego to jest gówno na kołach. Jakbym nie mógł mieć E38 740d to pewnie bym rozważył W211 400CDI/420CDI albo Phaetona 5.0 TDI. Audi z 4.2 nie, bo nie zaakceptuję takiego powalonego rozrządu w swoim aucie.

    Thanks for the video! Looking forward to watch more near future.
    Few words about the Phaeton. I had Phaeton with 3,0 Tdi V6 (facelift as it was 2011), that was a great car. Silent and smooth. Only problem was that doors had some corrosion (or is it oxidation as the doors are aluminium?). Also some slight electricity problem was around. V10 Tdi might have expensive maintenance work costs as the engine need to drop down if something bigger is done (there is no room for working). Same issue with the 6,0 W12. And both those engines can have in pre-facelift models. So I recommend Phaeton with the 3,0Tdi engine as it has enough power 240-245hv and it is facelift model and little bit modern related to lights (rear/headlights) and dashboard components (navigation etc.).
    I also had a VW Touareg (same car as Porsche Cayenne) with the same engine, that was also facelift model and there were no common Touareg pre-facelift drive shaft issues (vibration). In case that is your cup of a tea, you should test drive that carefully in order to avoid buying car with tricky vibrations. That Touareg was also excellent car to drive, especially at the winter time as it is "over-engineered" and full capable off road car.
    Nowadays I have a Lexus RX450h and I'm enjoying reliability and I can recommend that also.

    • @adamflower1715
      @adamflower1715  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the comment. Nice to see that a Phaeton owner is one of the viewers :) I saw a really nice V6 facelift for sale, but not only did the listing show up after I purchased the E38, it was also too expensive for me. That being said I think it was a really good deal from a foreigner in Warsaw that was leaving the country.
      I know that a V10 TDI will be expensive to maintain, but I feel like it might just be worth it! I mean, come on, a 10-cylinder diesel in a 4-door? They will never make such a car again.
      I appreciate all the tips. I know that the RX450h is a great car and my dad's actually considering buying one (1st gen) after a decade of 1999 V6 Camry ownership.

    • @tomijarvinen9143

      @@adamflower1715 Yes, you're right Phaeton with V10 Tdi is like a future unicorn that is highly appreciated. The sound of that engine is great! I bought mine from Germany as there is lot of choices. The current RX450h that I drive with is 2021 model and I bought it from Sweden when it had only 26tkm (now 42tkm). Most probably that will last long.

    It may well be that your heater control valve doesn't work but you can test it fairly simple by just feeling if it clicks (rather violent) when it ist activated. Cleaning also can help fixing it when it's not rusted into pieces. But what I found is that with that age it actually tends to be the heater core being clogged up. This thing has a rather unusual setup with 3 lines. The hot water comes in in the middle and exits onthe left or right side (this is how the dual climate is done) whilst then flow is controlled by the mentioned heater valves (or maybe the other way round). Especially if your E38 gets warmer on one side while having the climate control setting identical this clearly shows a clogged heat exchanger. I successfully unclogged mine without removing it with a self made contraption out of three hoses, a cheap water pump adapter for a drilling machine and a bucket full of hot water mixed with citric acid. But on the diesel models there's another thing what can prevent the heater from working: the egr thermostat! This thing normally fails open and the engine simply will not get warm enough. I would never have believed this myself but this definitely can happen and actually does so quite frequently. The temperature gauge has to stay right in the middle even in the coldest weather. If it stays on the left side it's time for a egr thermostat (assuming that the normal one is ok).

    Lucky you your E38 has everything heated. My 95 Opel Vectra A has no heated steering, Seats or mirrors😂. My heatercore was clocked when I bought the car so I had no heat whatsoever in my car. It was so cold in my car that the freezing temperatures started to hurt. At least after 3 years owning the car I replaced many parts and even repainted both sides because of rust. Now with wax in all hollow spaces the car is my perfect daily.

    Z tym DSC to chyba działa trochę inaczej, przynajmniej w E39 i E46 guzik od DSC jest dwustopniowy - zwykłe "kliknięcie" dezaktywuje tylko kontrolę trakcji, umożliwiając "mielenie" w miejscu (przydaje się czasem właśnie w zimie, szczególnie kiedy jest za ślisko, żeby kontrola trakcji przy próbie ruszenia nie odcinała całkowicie gazu). Dopiero kiedy przytrzymasz dłużej guzik DSC oprócz kontrolki trakcji zapali się też żółta kontrolka awarii układu hamulcowego, całkowicie odłączając system kontroli stabilności toru jazdy, czyli systemu który przyhamowuje pojedyncze koła na podstawie parametrów z akcelerometrów, prędkości kół i kąta skrętu. Wtedy dopiero cała "kontrola" nad autem jest w rękach kierowcy.

    • @adamflower1715
      @adamflower1715  ปีที่แล้ว

      Chyba tak. Kolega z E39 próbował trzymać ten guzik i dziwił się, że nie wyłącza się, jak u niego.

    • @tomekl119
      @tomekl119 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Możliwe że w e38 sterownik DSC jest inaczej skonfigurowany - można tą podwójną funkcję wyłączyć w zmiennych, żeby nie było możliwości całkowitego odcięcia kontroli stabilności. Niewykluczone, że przy takim kolosalnym momencie po prostu producent uznał, że nie warto dawać kierowcy szansy bo może go to przerosnąć :D

    What‘s the issue driving these on low rpms? I often do it the other way round, shifting up for cruising constantly and on low rpms to reduce engine wear… 😮
    Regarding the broken headlight adjuster it helps, if you fix the unit from towards the engine bay by either taping it in the up position or block it upwards with something between the light unit and the air filter box - at least until repairs…

      Much better to go bi-led now that the tech has surpassed xenon. Retrofitlab are a great resource. You could upgrade the dips to bi-led projectors and the mains to led main beam projectors.
      I'm not sure if you could program the body module to not throw up a fault. Though if you had switch it to xenon the load might be very similar at 35 or so watts.
      I have bi-led and main beam LED and they absolutely rock (not in a 7er sadly lol, but a 2004 Astra Bertone Coupe)

      @@TheRoverspeed Thanks, my friend had an E39 with bi-leds and they were great, but I'm just afraid that some grumpy inspection man will have issues with it as it's technically illegal. But the bi-xenons might fly under the radar.

    Hey, i know the video is 2 weeks old but, my E39s heating stopped working last month as it got colder outside, i thought my heater valve was rusted stuck, turns out i just had to top up the coolant, the heater matrix is higher in the system than the coolant resrvoir that means when the level gets low, it cant push the coolant up there, only needed like 500ml of coolant and voila, heating works as it should, somethimes its the simple stupid things :D
