    I just got am ae-10 a week ago and couldn’t be happier. I want to thank you for your videos. They are truly invaluable. Not having much prior knowledge about synths, your videos put to rest my greatest fears of this sounding like a toy. With your help, I have been able to adjust the settings and sounds that make this a true instrument in its own right. I now subscribe and will be looking forward to each video. Please keep doing them.

    Hi, Alistair- I'm a lifelong professional pianist (now semi-retired), and have become fascinated by your presentation of the Aerophone series. My only personal experience with wind instruments was a brief introduction to the RECORDER which was mandated as part of my Orff-Schulwerk teacher training (perhaps 20 years ago). I've decided that- assuming I can FIND my old recorder and and summon the patience to practice on it for a few weeks- I will reward myself with the purchase of an Aerophone. I was going to start with the AE-01, but I've "upped the ante" to an Aerophone Go. Wish me luck!

    Hi Alistar, Thanks for a great video.
    I'm interested in buying the 10G but before spending $$$ do feel that there are any new models that may be released to help fix issues that have been reviewed.
    Such as: poor condensation and water draining being trapped in the the mouthpiece.
    Key positioning and the bis key being slight to far away.
    I attempted to play an EWI and I've being playing tenor for 30years. I love it but it is difficult and let's face it, not many can play like brecker. ! :)

    • @isax.academy
      @isax.academy  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi there. I've seen a few people mention about condensation. This is a very individual thing. I have never had any issue at all with it. Some players are just wetter than others I guess. The same goes for the key positions. Every make of acoustic sax has slightly different key positions but you just get used to them after a while. The same goes for the Aerophone.

    Hi Alistair. I've finally bought a Go and I have to say that so far I'm really impressed with it.
    I previously bought an Akai EWI USB but when it arrived it had something loose rattling around inside. Not very good so it got returned and I got a refund. I also didn't like the touch sensitive type of keys on EWI, especially as I'm learning the alto saxophone.
    It's nice having the built in speaker on the GO but obviously the best sound can be achieved by going through audio software. I've got a Windows 10 PC but have no idea which software to use or how then to connect the GO (using USB) and get it all working.
    If you or anyone could advise I'd be very grateful.
    Thanks

      Hi David. I’m afraid I haven’t used a PC for many years. I hope someone else here can offer some help.
      I’ve seen some excellent TH-cam videos with people using PCs and windsynths so I’m sure you can do it.
      Just to be clear by connecting to a computer you are dealing with software sounds from the computer. The Aerophone just works as a controller. You wouldn’t use a PC to play the sounds from the Aerophone to improve it’s sound.
      Check out Albelton Live. They are currently doing 90 day free trial I believe and you should find some videos to help get started.

      @@isax.academy Thanks for the reply Alistair. I connected the GO to the speakers I normally use with the PC and that then produced the quality of sound I am happy with instead of just using the GO's internal speaker. Dear Alistar, knowing you have video series on both the Aerophone 10 and the Akai Ewi i was wondering if you had any sort of biased towards one or the other. I have been planing on buying one or the other for both practicing and for use on stage and composing my pieces with better ease but at this point im torn between the two. Which would you recommend?

    • @isax.academy
      @isax.academy  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +xxxDeafManxxx This is of course a matter of personal taste.
      For me the most significant difference between them is that the Aerophone will much easier to get playing straight away. The EWI will take some time to master and many people find it’s just too hard to persist with.
      For me the feel of the Akai is better and some of the synth sounds are better on the EWI 4000s but as far as other sounds the Aerophone wins every time for me.
      The Roland is also much easier to navigate through settings and of course there are still updates and improvements being issued. This is not the case with the Akai sadly.

    • @TooSlowTube
      @TooSlowTube 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I'd recommend the penny whistle - unless the noise is an issue.
      I never understood why we were all forced to play descant recorders at school. They're needlessly complicated, for a beginner, and require really good breath control to make a good sound.
      A penny whistle in D plays tunes in D and G easily, and other keys at a push. For playing tunes in more keys, buy more whistles :)

    • @TooSlowTube
      @TooSlowTube 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      You're welcome, Dr K. Since you're in germany, I'd suggest getting Thomann's plastic whistles - there's a D and a C, which are both good, and very cheap.
      A C whistle plays a bit like a Bb sax, without the keys below low D... It's a little different because the whistle's natural scale is D (D E F# G A B C#), like an oboe, but the same keys / fingerings on a sax play D E F G A B C#. It's easier to switch between the two than you might expect though. The brain adjusts.
      A D whistle doesn't transpose - the notes are named the same as on a flute or a piano, which is one reason why people start with that one. The C is a good second one though.

      I’d have to say yes. It can take the focus for a while. You do need to spend some time getting to know it like any instrument. The key thing is the Aerophone is by far the easiest wind synth to get into and with time opens up a while new world.

    Thanks Alistair, I just got the A-10 2 weeks ago, love it, I had a little difficulty with stability holding the instrument playing the high octave keys, I'm using some recorder techniques now that helps, do you have any input on the unit stability and playing fast and hitting the high keys with these 2 units ?

      Thanks, I just downloaded the 3.0 update for the AE-10, it's awesome, vibrato improved/fixed, new sounds are great. Thanks Alistair, I followed your video for the update, very helpful. On those high notes I've been using the low D finger to stabilize like with recorders. Separately, the octave keys are not as distinguished as I'd like, maybe need to get used to it, been a tenor player for many years, but I am so excited about the AE-10, huge breakthrough. Thanks for your great videos, super helpful.

    • @TooSlowTube
      @TooSlowTube 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      FWIW, I've built up the 1st octave up key on my AE-10, by cutting a crescent of self adhesive cork - about 2mm or 1/16" thick.
      I put some dense self adhesive dense foam on the 1st octave down key too... I'm not sure which I prefer, but the foam I found is a little bit thinner than the cork.

    • @markm.1778
      @markm.1778 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      How are you liking that at this point, I'm getting more use to the octave keys, the 1st up and down are a little at an angle not straight up and down, the 2nd octave key is straight up, I agree that they are too similar in surface feel and tightly close together

    • @TooSlowTube
      @TooSlowTube 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Did you mean the Aerophone as a whole, or just putting things on the octave keys? I can recommend doing that, though I might start again with non self adhesive cork, and contact cement, because the gum on the sort I've used is a bit too soft for hot weather - it tends to move around.
      If you meant the other thing; that's more of an essay question...
      I'm frustrated by the pitch bend only being down, not up. There's provision for both, but they disabled the option of up. Clearly, they don't know a hell of a lot about playing saxophones, or other reed instruments.
      Lately, I've been using it as a MIDI controller, which frustrates me because I need a powered converter, to get the missing DIN socket, which I feel it should always have had.
      I do like having the palm keys, though I wish the fingering implementation was a bit more complete. I guess they had their reasons, but it's not like playing a sax; it's like sticking to a fingering chart for complete beginners, with no alternate fingerings. You can add ten, but that doesn't even scratch the surface.
      I haven't put on the new update yet, partly because it just seems to be new sounds, and tweaks to the old ones. I will eventually, but that doesn't really excite me. I'd rather have had some improvements to how it works - pitch bend and fingering.

      All Aerophones have an output jack that can be used for headphones or an amp. They also all have USB out to connect to a computer for additional sounds or to connect via a computer to additional keyboards/sounds modules. You cannot connect directly to a keyboards midi or USB though. You’d need to go via a computer or some kind of USB to midi converter like the one from Kenton.

      +risang android That’s a very difficult question to answer because it depends on many factors. The short answer is if you haven’t played a wind synth before and you want to get going quickly and easily and have an instrument close to the feel of a saxophone then go for the Aerophone. Which Aerophone is then down to cost. If you can afford the AE-10 go for that but if you’re not sure you want to invest that much money or you’d rather try it out for a while then go for the GO.

    Got one issue - LATENCY with Bluetooth - how is it with an IPad/IPhone. And second question, are the presets for the AE-10 which one could load limited to Supernatural Sounds or could one load in presets using VST or other sounds?

    • @GaryR55
      @GaryR55 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Aside from the latency issue, the issue I have with Bluetooth is that no one seems to be aware that it's a huge security risk. If it's connected to a tablet or PC, that device is vulnerable to "blusnarfing," or an attack via Bluetooth that can be used to capture every keystroke (think bank passwords, credit card numbers, etc) entered. This is why I never use Bluetooth on my iPad anymore. The last time I did, a few years ago, I discovered a computer and a Samsung phone both trying to pair to my iPad.
